That's Dave Grohl on the drums. Taylor Hawkins hadn't joined the band when it was recorded, but had by the time the video for it was made. A couple of bits of trivia: Louise Post's background vocals were done by phone, since she couldn't be there in person; this is David Letterman's favorite song and when he did his last show, he had the Foo Fighters close it out by playing it live. I really appreciate these videos. I'm hearing things I'd never noticed before even after decades of listening to songs.

If I’m not mistaken, the female harmony vocals were recorded via a phone call. Not 100% sure, but I believe I heard that somewhere.

Yes, I learnt that thanks to Rick Beato's WMTSG

It’s Louise Post from Veruca Salt. They were dating at the time and the song is allegedly about her.
He called her in Chicago (from LA) at 2AM to track the vocals. They did everything over the telephone.
He later left her for Winona Ryder.
Veruca Salts next album is mostly about him and the break up.

Some internet sleuthing came up with this for the whispering: "So Dad would take the Sundays off, And that's the only time he could ever get any rest, And so, because we were loud on Sundays,
He'd make us hold his construction boots over our head, till he'd sleep And they were really heavy boots And I'd used to say dad come on please And like start crying, cause they re too heavy."

@@RonnieDee2323 Yeah, that's the story I've always heard. It's Dave telling the story of his dad and the boots!

"So dad would take Sundays off, and thats the only time he could get rest. And so, because we were loud on Sundays, hed make us hold his construction boots over our head, til hed sleep. And I used to say, "Dad, come on please, and start crying because they are too heavy."

Also, William Goldsmith was the drummer at the time and he left the band after Dave re-recorded his parts for this album. So yeah, this is Dave on Everlong. And this was the Foos' second album, The Colour and the Shape.

When people say here's Wonderwall they should say... Here's Everlong. It's so much better. And Wonderwall is awesome!

This is my favorite so far. "Bells" gave Benny the full Jim Henson. I laughed, I cried, I cheered. The love letter gave me the chills and all the feels. OH YEAH my ADHD went to 11!

Can you react to rope and best of you by foo fighters please, the guitar tones on rope are amazing aswell as the drums are influenced by neil peart in the chorus on the Ride. Best of you has passionate vocals and is about breaking away from things that confine you 🤘

Good stuff! The 'whispering' sounds like Dave to me, not Louise? But maybe I'm just not a good listener! 😳

Dave played all recorded tracks for this album. The "band" Foo Fighters was his escape from the suicide of Kurt Cobain. When it was released and was a hit, he had to hire band members.. hence so many former Nirvana band members in Foo. I love your videos and i wish no disrespect intended... but seems like you guys would have done just the bare minimum amount of research??

Thank you for watching, we do not do research, we are discovering and learning and having an amazing fun time. We tried the research things early on but it took some of the fun of discovery away from our reactions. Plus - we ask people to teach us things in the comments for which we are very grateful and learn a great deal. THANKS!
