- In this video, I go over a demonstration of defensive driving techniques that you should know. If you are driving in a major city or in an unpopulated area, you should know a whole bunch of defensive driving moves that you can use on the road. Driving in a defensive manner with the techniques that I will be showing you throughout the video will allow you to be a safer driver on the road and be less likely to get into an accident! With that being said, you can easily learn how to use these techniques so you can start implementing them into your driving as soon as you would like to!

When I was taking driving lessons, my instructor asked me why I always braked a second or two early and I told her I thought it was a good habit to develop. This habit has saved my car from total wrecks that could have happened because Chicago has a lot of aggressive drivers!
- Brake early. As soon as you see front cars have brake lights, slowly brake
- Try to look way far ahead
- Swirl and return back to where you were
- Anticipating. If drivers stop, pay attention to the wheel
- Adjusting for weather: if snow, increase distance to 5 seconds, slow down speed
- Yield the right of way if you are in doubt.
- Scan your mirrors every 45 seconds.
- Make yourself visible: accelerate a bit then drive slower a little. Same for motorcycles. So they know you exist.
Nice tips. I’m a new driver. Today I was at a light and trying to turn left. Another car was across from me trying to turn right, I didn’t have a good view of oncoming traffic, I sLowly inches up and honked as I turned. I’m upset that I made this mistake as potentially could have gotten into an accident. I pulled over and collected myself. I should have either waited for the car to turn and then see if it was safe to turn or wait for the light to change so that I could go

How do you handle your emotions when approaching a stop light and another driver at the light coming from a different direction decides to pull forward over the line and trigger the light for them and it causes you to slam on the brakes at the light? I hate the light jumpers because they are so impatient that they can't wait for the light to change properly.
Put five seconds in between reacting.
As soon as you realise what's going on: inhale, count to five, exhale, evaluate what you're going to do.
Gives your brain a moment to switch from emotion to logic 😅
