Yea wasn't Warner Springs Great ! SERE. Most memorable training I had in 23 years in the Navy. Almost had to go through it twice prior to going back for my 2nd tour after I got out for 90 days. Back in those days (70-72) After the reception I received coming home, I volunteered on reinlisting and went right back to Vietnam where I felt safe and at least understood what was going on! Didnt come back to the states for 8 years.
I am glad so many are getting to enjoy this small bit of life. The Brown Water Navy reunion is the first weekend of Sept. in Indianapolis, only happens every two years and is good to get to meet up with fellow soldiers who chewed up some of the same dirt
Back in the 70's I was known as crowsfoot. Still us it today but just wanted to say thanks for this video I brings back good and mad memories, which is a part of life.
Thanks for posting - My dad was KIA in VN, I beleive somewere on the Mekong - He also helped blow an ocean going channel into the Cua Viet - UDT/SEAL and I believe Riverine TF 113
Sorry that your dad didn’t make it back home………Jim O a 100% disabled Vietnam Combat Vet. (1965). We took a troop ship over (21 days) and landed (D-Day Style).
Thanks for posting! I was on Tango-3, 1970-71. worked in cambodia, the "Ditch", and Song Ong Doc. Following that we took the boat back to Dong Tam for turn over. I've never really understood why the PBRs got all the press and very few people have heard or seen a RAG boat. It's really too bad there are none left.
Very curious where you got all of these pictures. My father is in the first picture you show (he is on the right hand side). Kind of an amazing thing to see after all these years.
I was a gunnersmate on ATC-111-13, Jan 69 to June 69, then to Riv Div 131 from July 69 to Jan 70, mostly out of Dong Tam.. Great to see a glimpse of "the good old days" (above video). Completed my whole 365 and a wake up . Many people don't know that riverine sailors also had 3 months of riverwarfare training at NIOTC, Villejo, Calif, which included 7 days of Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape, (SERE) at Warner Springs, in the desert east of San Diego.
Thanks. I'm trying to find out more about the Brown Water Navy because my dad served and doesn't really talk much about it. Every once in a while he'll spit out another piece of info, but I don't know much. Just that he was a radio operator on the boat towards the end.
🇺🇲🥇🎖️👏👏👏👮🏻♂️🙏🤗God Bless all those Vietnam Veterans, E-9 Bandollia, E-5 Pacheco Special Forces, Garcia Brother's from San Diego Texas, E-6 West, Spec -4 Moore, General Vang Pao ,Comander Ly toung POW, Commander Howard POW.
Would be great. Wish there was good videos of your Brother River Warriors. I spent time with the River Raiders; 1097th Medium Boat Company, based out of Dong Tam. Perhaps I can dig out pictures I took and try to produce one when I return from AZ this spring. Brings back old feelings and memories watching your video. Thanks Brother and Welcome Home.
i had to just type in my deepest respect for those who served during the Vietnam Conflict, you and all those who served then should be known as the most loyal Generation because of your strength and valor and your ability to throw aside politics and stick to your Guns, during all the History lessons and Doctrine given during my service The Marine Corp. made your plight very clear from lack of proper functioning weapons, to terrible transportation thank you Once again... and God Bless
Worst song ever. Great pictures though. I have the most respect for my dad and all vets. My dad was in Americal division, Bravo Company out of Chu-lai If I spelled that right. 68-70, he was after the massacre.
@sagicorn62 Actually the beret signifies River Assault Squadron 13, There were two river divisions in the squadron, 131 and 132. I served on a tango boat in RivDiv 132 in 1968-69'. I wish I still had my beret.
Need some help from all you river rats who in country around 1970. Look for information on a friend who has passed. Daniel (Dan, Danny) Wilson he had done several tours in the Nam the last in 1970. We supported elements of the 3rd Marine Division until they pulled out in July of 69’ and were replaced with elements of the Army’s mechanized units. I rotated out in January of 70’.
Don´t forget about those who fought against the communism in US backyard......the forgotten wars in Central America. Here we also bleeded and suffer fighting communist agression against US in the rear door......... But without any help from US. Please dont forget that.
I am a retired Navy vet and was a boat guy with SWCC in Navy Special Warfare. For my fellow boat guys that do not know we have an association called CCCA. You can look it up at Combatcraftcrewmember.org. We are a 501c charity that takes care of our own. Look us up brothers. Come join.

. Such a bizarre war, i research on this specific war, it's got some strange grip on me.
It was too bad that our gov’t wasn’t on our side! They pulled us out when we could have finished that ‘conflict’ ...just like Afghanistan!!!
I was on armored troop carrier T-91-8 in Dong Tam in 1967. Do you know if any of these boats still exist any where?
Sadly most if not all were destroyed after the war from what I've been able to find, it's a real shame they deserve to be museum pieces!

war is logistics, it was well within our grasp to win the logistics war...
fear of escalation and traitors at home cost us the war... the war for the US was a bit more than ten years...
ten years later the Soviets collapsed...
we very much could have brought the war to a stable conclusion and waited the Soviets out...
as for the Chinese, they were not as strong then as now, and the Communist Vietnamese actually fought them shortly after unification...
learn some history before you spout crap..
the Vietcong and NVA lost massive amounts of materials in the Tet offensive... the Vietcong never fully recovered and it took a long time for the NVA to recover... the US military was within sight of the single largest NVA staging area in Cambodia when they were order to pull back... they had already broken thru the main resistance... the NVA was allowed to keep those supplies...
then after we left Congress cut off supplies to the south...
the south was fighting hard, but when your fuel and ammo is gone, you lose....
no you coun't win it usa is not strong
Lykes does your mother know you talk like that
but usa win no war since 1865
Lykes you couldnt beat yourself out of a wet paper bag
