I had the pleasure of working with Trost many years ago and as soon as I met him I commented on how much I admired his singing of this piece. He immediately deflected the compliment, saying that his teacher was a much better singer. He's a fantastic artist and a humble gentleman.
This is a treacherously difficult aria that Rainer Trost sings perfectly and additionaly sing it with such longing and beauty. This is production of pure beauty.
I have heard almost all of the "all time greats" sing this aria and modern day tenors. He is simply the best at this piece. That has to say something amazing about his talent. Bravo!
Totally agree! I've been a fan of Trost for years and still no one to this day, in my opinion, can sing this aria better. He is just perfect for the role in my opinion, and as well as Amanda Roocroft as Fiordiligi. Together they are perfection for Cosi.

I would love to have been at rehearsals to see how Gardiner managed to coax such a beautiful performance from Trost. But that's what JEG does with everything he touches. Bravo!
he has the best ferrando title, i think. and he has sung the aria so smart and with mezza voce. the opera needs this voice and mozart too......but technical things were a little weak

Ho scoperto da pochissimo “Così fan tutte” e mi è piaciuta tanto che ho cercato di renderla più appetibile ai miei coetanei, facendo un po’ la buffona in un video. Never heard this sung better. So deceptively difficult (as most Mozart is), but he makes it look and sound easy, and so musical as well!

I love his rendition and the whole production in general. His Adam's apple is quite mesmerising and seems to have a life of its own.
