I like at the end where you mentioned helping people that can't afford the service's you help out, been doing that my whole career. Just earned a subscriber.
They clearly replaced the gas valve and didn't adjust it. I knew what was wrong from description of the noise before even seeing the video. I'm surprised the differential setting was off, usually the manufacturers do not want this touched. When the gas valve is replaced the throttle often needs adjustments and this is on pretty much every condensing boiler.
Mike: Great video. As you are aware you can’t get proper fuel combustion analysis with a dirty boiler. Once I saw the condensate trap that dirty along with acid nuet I would have pulled the burner assembly to take a look at combustion chamber. Once determining the cleanliness of the chamber I would have proceeded with combustion analysis. FYI sounded like Jack Welch on the phone. Great Engineer. This is a great video to say the least instruction on the Gas adjustments along with Tec Suport was awesome. We share with our men these videos for training . Ty again
You are absolutely right .The problem with tools is how fast they sprout legs .A 3 phase power analyser from fluke is 10gs a single phase is 3 gs it's no joke .Test tools are difficult to buy and keep !
Westchester does not have a heating license, so you were all good and legal for repair as far as the county goes. Just can not touch the gas and the domestic water. Not sure about the City of Yonkers requirements. But the job is well done.
Ask yourselves how many years experience is necessary to diagnose a system without being on site? These phone techs are incredible and dont get the credit they deserve. The new burnham alta is an amazing new product that allows techs to work without a combustion analyzer. Scary, but the future.
Mikey, bunch of Ol’ School guys there between your client and the US Boiler CSR…..good to hear. Brought back good memories! Nice job as always, Mikey 👍. That’s why you get paid the big bucks!
Am watching you'al from the eastern caribbean.......on an island call Dominica Roseau the capital.... We dont have the systems you lot have on the main land... Not many plumbers can solder copper here.....trust they run for miles....
That’s the difference between someone who knows how to setup a pre mix burner to someone who doesn’t. Lots of gas techs have no idea how to setup combustion if it isn’t manifold pressure.
I guessed incorrectly. Thought it might be godzilla. Glad you're spreading the word about Joe's son. For a moment, I thought this was a Mikey pipes van life Channel.
I maintain a couple of NTI boilers that use the gianonni exchanger. They are not self cleaning and I find they have considerable buildup in 2 years. Just make sure you have new gaskets in hand before you open it. Also just to point out the guard dog is below the burner, that should be 6 inches above the boiler.
Next time you want to start by checking the incoming gas pressure . CO2 readings are a calculation made by the machine from the O2 reading. I really enjoy your videos.
There is a Becket distributor almost across the street where I work in Strongsville Ohio....I had a Becket burner in my House IN Granby CT (between Hartford and Springfield)
takes a bit longer to get there , but the home owner got TRUE service , and you learned a new system setup to day. GOOD DAY , to the point and it costs money for TOOLS and TRAINING !!!! $25.00 you get $25.00 Pay $80-100 per hour , they BETTER HAVE THE TOOLS

Another Great video from you Mikey! Agreed, if you ain't testing your guessing! I use the Testo model 310, i wanted the 320, but couldn't get it. Only downside i see with it is it has to be sent out for recalibration around every 18 months and it cost a bit for that.
Great Job Mikey. 👍 For a apprentice who is just starting out this would be a great educational video for even the DIYers. Very knowledgeable Info keep it up the great work!!

Mike, I see this piece in Yonkers NY, that’s westchester, where you visited another paesano. I feel bad now, because recently I asked you if you do service in Westchester and told me a big NO! So what is it, Mikey Pipes?
Would you know anyone in the Boston area that would know how to work on or service an old hydrotherm....I've talked to 2 old timer plumbers and even they were lost
Not sure how the gas is up there, here in Boston I find the inlet screens on those gas valves caked in rust. It’ll give you problems setting the combustion.
I'm a new subscriber, great videos I really enjoy them!! I have a question, I have a instant hot for hot water and hot water baseboard heat. What should the temperature be set to? Rite now I have it set to 135 degrees but there's not a strong amount of heat from baseboard. Don't know if this is normal or should temp be raised?
Other tech changed the gas valve because he didn't know WTF he was doing. I use to work with guys that hated calling tech support, I loved it because I'd always learn something new... Edit -This is the reality of our world, to get a good tech you often have to get someone that's willing to travel to your location if the local guys are too busy or just generally suck...
Actually boilers can run higher even upto 9 percent they generally run with lower oxygen due to specific heat exchanger designs which require a specific air/fuel mix ratio also as boilers heat water than air that means heat exchanger designs and geometries will differ across the the two- boilers do not need a filter and generally have cleaner air in a boiler which can help run with lower oxygen levels and provide more optimal combustion. With oxygen around 4-6% you are really talking about 90+ high efficiency boiler. Higher end models now trim the oxygen level continuously and automatically which Mikey was talking about with the burnham tech to allow fully condensing boilers to provide optimal heat with lower gas providing savings over time. Even with these self trimming high efficiency boilers they have to be serviced at least yearly to ensure the automatic trimming is working well and your getting the right savings. The discussion around pipe length was important to determine what we call stack losses the lower they are the higher the efficiency and therefore how much latent heat is extracted from steam turning back into water….
@@AlBracco879 on a brighter note, they sued my ex wife; before our divorce was finalized, she was living in the house and the boiler crapped out. Those are good boilers when they are maintained and installed correctly.

Welcome back Frankie 2 times
When they explode at ignition, it usually needs a burner. The slightest stretch in the mesh traps gas and causes hard light offs.
It was running rich as hell at the low fire setting, I imagine that could cause that too?? What is the mesh in the burner??

Why do boilers run lower o2 than furnace? 5 to 6% vs 6 to 9%?
