Their price at their launch was high and they under-performed until the drivers matured a year or so after launch, the V56 went from lagging behind the 1070 at launch to regularly beating it out in games years later. I upgraded my 580 to a V56 since I was on a 1440p monitor and they dropped the price of Vega in the spring of 2019 significantly. It was great and held up well until I got a 3080 in spring of 2021. I think people at 1080p with a 570 or 580 didn't see the price worth paying and they just held out another gen, especially with their drivers getting better over time too compared to their nvidia counterparts.

Another nice video! I really hope that you make a follow up with undervolting+overclocking the card as it helped them a lot back in the day.
Vega 56/64 biggest problem was the 1070/1080 in my opinion. They offered similar performance but the Nvidia cards consumed considerably less power and, especially at the beginning didn't have driver issues like the Vega.
In my country(Greece) people for some reason are a bit sceptical about the Vega family of cards so both 56 and 64 cost around 100 to 120€ as there is little demand for them after the mining crash. On the other gad, 1070 and 1080 could cost much more, 130-140€ is a regular price for the 1070 (usually 150€ as well) while the 1080 goes for around 170-180€ .
After some good searching i found for my brother a 100€ Asus ROG STRIX 1070 and just the other day for 115€ a Founder's Edition which I will keep for a while for my secondary PC.

Always wanted one of these bad boys when they first came out but ended up getting a 1070 instead. I think me noise cancelling headphones would have been pushed to the limit with this afterburner-sounding card cooling on full pelt. Still though, impressive card, thanks for sharing 🙂

The MSI "Air Boost" was the brand of Vega 64 that I got about 4 years ago. It worked fine (i.e. stable) once I got an undervolt and aggressive fan setting to manage the heat, but the noise was a deal breaker for me. Besides being a space heater, it was like running a hair dryer that I could still hear even when gaming with headphones. Even woke up my wife one night. Finally got fed up with it after only 6 months and replaced it with a pricier GTX 2070 Super, which in turn I just recently replaced with a 6800xt. I never looked back until a couple of months ago when I dusted the old Vega 64 off the shelf and replaced the blower with an old Morpheus II. What a difference it made. I never would have gotten the 2070S if I had went this route years ago. The old girl still holds up pretty well with all my games.

After a full tear down clean up and repaste with MK6 it’s a cracking buy. Set it to 1040mv 950 VRAM and 1662 core though typically sits at 1550-1575 50% PL. for £50 fantastic card

My card is near silent under load(except on a hot summer day, but even then it’s no loud) it served me well from June of 2019 to august of 2021 when I got my 1080 ti. RandomGaminginHD : I used to own a Sapphire Nitro RX Vega 64 8GB HBM2 (2x8-pin version) which I sold to my friend....back then it was on paar with my KFA2 GTX 1080 EXOC 8GB....but today, it's quite a different story....in practically every game that I play, my newly acquired Asus Strix RX Vega 64 8GB HBM2 (again a 2 x 8-pin version) beats my KFA2 GTX 1080 EXOC 8GB by around 15 % - 20 %....both tested on the same Ryzen 7 5800X3D rig coupled with dual channel 64 GB of 3600 MH/T DDR4. Vega cards are very very good today and definitely worth the money.

I love these, never had one though, always too expensive for me. There are better choices however. Interestingly the 64 goes for the same price (where I live at least). The RX 5700 (non-XT) is within 10-15 Euro as well and is more power efficient, more performant and should have less driver issues.
A tiny suggestion - It would be lovely to see a quick performance comparison on screen to other relevant/comparable products. Just for a few seconds at the end of the video with the final thoughts segment. Would be really informative to see at a glance how this compared to the 1070, or the 5600 XT for example
