Only just found your channel and am loving it, used to have a small Shetland and Herdwick herd but now in the toun so between you and Cammy you are giving me my farming fix - thankyou!
Enjoyed the video Nicola that was wise move to off load the last of your lambs ewes have to be prioritised at this time of the year you had lovely lamb's to sell looking forward to seeing your cows and calves when they come in we are amazed at the amount of work you get through your Dad must be so proud of you
Nicola do not be hard on yourself you are entitled to change your mind we all know that things change in farming very quickly and sometimes long term promises have to be amended to suit changes in situations you are doing a great job Good luck
Thanks for going into the details of the sheep breeding . Don't keep sheep but found it very interesting . But really looking forward to the cattle VIDEOS.
Just a question, at the end of the day what brings in more money for the farm sheep or beef? I know more of the beef side but love the sheep side as well. I really enjoy your videos, all the best with everything.
It sounds like its Braxy that lambs died from due to frost but normally in root or forage crops that they are grazing on but can happen on lush green grass to.
If you check out this video, ruclips.net/video/50TEdLRXl_I/видео.htmlsi=biOIxQ_dK7TdQIkB I share what I’m using. Finding higher scanning %, ewes maintaining condition and piece of mind that through winter they are getting minerals.
Glad you had the business sense to sell. But you know what ur margins are and that can eat into other areas of the business that can effect ur bottom line. My grandmother was the financial adviser and operations manager, Her decisions were pure and simple. She would make a decision based on profit and loss. Pretty simple in it's rational but financially rewarding rather than eating at ur profit when the market had an unexpected drop due to being so far from the markets overseas which is a burden NZ exports suffer immensely. The products have to be the best to even get to the market place overseas as they often would be a price consumers would rather pay at a lesser price even if we were only a few cents/pounds/euros more. When you have access to the international market place virtually on ur back door lifes a lot less stressful. Sheep are very prone to all sorts of issues which our neighbours were quite happy to move away from back in the day. Good days are like a shot of enthusiasm and warming for the soul I reckon. Great stuff.

That sound very like Braxy. Lambs just drop dead after the frost. Did i some cheviot ewes in the early bunch?
Think there may be a couple cheviot mules running about still :)
Its that time of year when stock is gettingcshipped off
Hi how many Tubs was it for 200 ewes?
I have 2 tubs in with my 200 early ewes :)
Do u wean your calfs on weight or age
all done on age
It a little annoying u say your selling your sheep but you don’t show us them being sold at market, click bait comes to mind
I wasn’t at the mart to see them sold myself.
