"Wolves have been demonized, perhaps more than any other animal on earth"...Snakes: Um, hold our rodentssss.... (another creature I vote should be next in this series) Good video.
A video about my favorite animal and my favorite pastime (folklore and mythology) the same week as my birthday? AMAZING!! I really appreciate the way you fairly represented wolves here. They definitely get a bad reputation but have such diverse characterizations across mythology, and you gave an excellent overview here. I didn't even know about the Inuit legends, so that was a special treat! Also, I've probably said it before, but it bears repeating: I love your narration style. It's very captivating and dynamic depending on what you're discussing at the time. For example, I love the inflection on, "The wolf huffed...and puffed...and blew the house down!" It's the voice of a natural storyteller and adds a great component to each video.
After a bad day yesterday, anniversary of my mom passing, and in general bad shift at work today... I'm so HAPPY to find this video! Thank you! ❤ I LOVE wolves!! 🐺🌛
Nice to see positive wolf representation. I love animal myths and legends. Wolves are one of my favorite animals along with dragons, cats(regular and big cats) along with others.
I've been noticing that negative depictions of wolves are becoming less common in modern media and that werewolves are being depicted as neither inherently good for evil more often. Considering what we have done to wolves, I see this as a good thing. Presenting wolves as good or simply as animals in fiction will help us restore their population and help reduce the people hunting them.
Ahhh Wolves are very beautiful creatures Scary, yes yet they’re still beautiful There’s a story how a pregnant woman was lost in a snowstorm and by the time she laid down, she woke up where a group of wolves have cuddled her to keep her warm and the baby inside (There are more details that I couldn’t remember but that’s all I heard of) Can you also do reviews of snakes how they’re were shunned and given negative treatment thanks to society, yet there are others who gave positive reviews about snakes and have tried to
The story your on about was an evil one indeed and these beautiful animals came to her need when she was beaten to Nealy dead and about to give birth and dumped in the woods and thes beautiful creatures came and saved her and a child it is truly an eye opener to say the least , humans are the true monsters
The wolf's wear said to have helped her as she passed out while giving birth that is if it's the same story as the one your talking about . There are many accounts of women being lost in the wood and wolf's coming to there rescue and as I write this I've never heard men being rescued but there has to be because of Tails were lone woods men have a wolf companion
What about the wolves Black and White? The twin wolves of Cherokee Mythology Black is a fierce hunter and White is more of a protective wolf So Black and White are protective wolves who look after lost travelers and guide lost children back to their villages
Sometimes I reimagine my favorite shows and movies with an extra character that's half human half wolf, and other times I've imagined a werewolf fighting evil, supernatural wolves are one of favorite things
American Indians now call Native American because of offensive people. 1800's Indians and white men had bunch of wars because white man stealing American Indians land and wasting Buffalo meat and letting it rotten
Wolves have always been my favorite canine species and I’ve always liked how certain cultures have key entities that take the form of a wolf such as Fenrir the son of Loki in Norse mythos and real world wolves have their own unnatural beauty as it were
As a guy who grew up out on the countryside, i know wolves are important. A few years ago, the first wolves for at least a hundred years or more, came back to my parts of Sweden, where they were hunted to extinction, and the hunters and people in charge of the entire region i live in, i live in the southern most parts of Sweden, Scania if you translate it, and not the truck brand, has decided that they don't want to place protective hunts to save any cattle, sheeps and other farm animsls. Simply put, no hunters or anyone else with guns wants to hunt the wolves down here. There is at least three wolves in my municipality, of which two actually set up their own pack, while the other ones is running around and hunting deer and other wild animals, but thankfully enough, the wolves here doesn't hunt any pets or other domestic animals. I've always had a fascination of wolves, as my nickname if wolfman. Yes. People i know literally call me Wolfman, parts because I love wolf, and because i have a hoodie with a wolf on it's back. I'm not a werewolf or an actual wolfman if that's what you think, i'm just called wolfman
A little curiosity about wolves: they don't actually mate for life, they may live with one partner for life if they don't get killed, but if this happens they mourn the loss and then mate with another partner. In a few cases it's even been observed that some wolves mate with multiple individuals, though it is reported as rare.
Wolves are amazing creatures, yes they can be scary looking but if you leave them alone and respect them they cant do no harm. Speaking of wolf transformation one of my favorite mythical films is Wolfwalkers its Irish and it center's around Irish Celtic magic and wolf powers you should watch it.
Good to hear some wolf mythology. Shame you missed out on the belief by some Native Americans that people have 2 wolves within them. The dominant wolf (good or bad) being the one you feed.
I agree. And it’s also important to see that wolves were reintroduced at Yellowstone National Park. This was because that all wolves were unfairly hunted and killed in that national park. Thus, causing over populated wildlife; causing an imbalanced ecosystem. Thankfully, we’re getting better with leaving such animals alone most of the time
The main reason wolves are often depicted as evil was to protect kids so they wouldn't approach wolves and get mauled by them. The same is not true for dragons in Asian cultures because... well, you can't really get killed by a mythological dragon even if you wanted.
What a great video about wolves and their place in legends and folklore. There are a couple things I like to point out. First of all, not all interpretations of the three little pigs have the big bad wolf eat the first two pigs after blowing their houses down. Instead the first two pigs got away and moved in with the third pig. And when it comes to stories about orphaned children raised by wolves, there is no other story more popular than Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book where the Seoni wolf pack took in a man cub named Mowgli and helped taught him the laws of the jungle alongside Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear.
I had a dream last night where there was this kind of scary grey cartoonish wolf that appeared and made a straight beeline toward me, walking slowly from ahead. But my ego dream self was scared of being bitten so I made myself levitate and then fly away. I hope I will see it again in my dreams tonight and be not afraid and ask it what its message is.
I am a therian(indentifies as a ln animal not to be confused with furries)specifically I am a wolf therian. And seeing this episode makes me feel so warm inside. Thanks for talking about the impact of wolves in mythology
I never under why people would attribute wolves with trickery to me the the attribute of a snake or a fox, I for me I am fan of wolves not only do they look noble but the are a symbol of loyalty
There guardians obviously there going to put you in your place. That’s not evil that’s life. Without that where’s the world order? You would walk around doing whatever you please. I look at you like the evil ones but say whatever you like to sleep better.
sadly now the humans love killing them saying they don't belong here anymore it saddens me 😭 and we have a very funny folklore where werewolfs force ppl to piggyback ride them or wait at crossroads and just jump on ppl's back so they are forced to piggy back them 🤣
As an autistic person obsessed with wolves, I'm always happy to see more positive wolf representation, thank you

Thank you for pointing out that the wolves are integral to the environment. They are good for the environment on many levels.

Nice to see positive wolf representation. I love animal myths and legends. Wolves are one of my favorite animals along with dragons, cats(regular and big cats) along with others.
You could easily argue that it is man who are the bloodthirsty, vicious monsters, as werewolves are men turned into wolves.
I second that 👏👏

I hate when wolves get a bad rap
Wolves get a bad reputation by people who don't understand them. Wolves are spiritually gorgeous animals. Thank you for the awesome video.
It's fascinating that we have created mythologies about wolves giving them human tendencies. There are good and bad people as well.
Wolves have always been my favorite canine species and I’ve always liked how certain cultures have key entities that take the form of a wolf such as Fenrir the son of Loki in Norse mythos and real world wolves have their own unnatural beauty as it were
