I have been pushing the music more on this channel especially since I haven't been able to travel or get on ships. I still want to keep this channel pumping with some tech videos and vlogs of my life here as an American musician living in Australia!

This is helpful for getting my green screen setup going. Even though the collapsable screens are real handy, I don't need my arms and guitar getting cropped out of frame either, just like you said. Guess I'll go with the larger backdrop. Thanks for the heads up.

Great quality review here! One short question Danny.. Don't the wrinkles from the cloth affect your chroma keying? The portable screen seems tight and nice .

I’ve had that same Amazon green screen for about 3 years. I made a frame for mine, so I could stretch it tight. If I had had an empty wall behind me, as you appear to have, I would have stapled it tight to the wall. Tight is right.

Green screen from Elgato definitely looks crisper, but not for the extra dollarydoos they want for it!!!!

Hah, the cheap one is Neewer. They always seem to come through with good, cheap entry level streaming gear. Wish they still sold their cheap XLR condenser mics, they were such an easy recommendation for newbies!

long time viewer....first time commenter. You make some solid and valid points particularly for musicians. Its funny to think 5 years ago you couldn't find Green screen grade material anywhere so most had to opt for blue screen and then couldn't wear blue clothes. Oh how we have evolved. Personally I hate green screens. The end.
Haha ya... blue screens apparently are the best because of the subtle outline it creates around the subject. I never was a fan of green screens before but if you can get creative with it (work in progress for me) you can really create a cool environment for the viewers :) thanks creeky

Some people have bought 2 Elgatos for the easy setup covers the whole space.

Lights on all sides is not needed at all, i found a lamp someone threw away in garbage. and it works perfectly with mine
What's amazing to me is that the "on air" brick wall background totally fooled me. (;-)
Haha... that’s awesome , I recorded a loop of in focus and out of focus video for when I want to have that “home studio” look, but still can get those crazy background changes :) thanks for watching Stephen

Excellent video! I just bought an Elgato. Superb quality and ease-of-use, but too narrow for zoom really… I’ll probably only use it for more serious presentations, or buy another one to go next to it.
5 Years ago, the Elgato would have had more of a value proposition. But computer technology is so good nowadays, you can get away with the crappiest wrinkled green screens and still make a good key.

Danny Black we ran into this problem - imagine two people with one of those tiny elgato green screens. Execs at elgato see it as a great way to capitalise on that chroma... $$$$$$$$

elgato green screen is better than ever if you use it only from time to time and are not serious... I love mine. it works pefect for me even if its smaller. i dont need bigger for mine it works just fine

I have the Elgato Green Screen MT mountable version that suddenly developed a large crease during a stalled retraction. After contacting Elgato support asking for potential instructions on removing the crease they voluntarily offered to send new replacement. They are requiring me to write the RMA number across middle of front screen with Sharpie and provide a picture as proof before moving forward. Guess I am stuck trusting they will come through.

The elgato one is meant for gamers, right behind their chairs that's why it is so small. A shame too cause it is really nice.

I shoot videos at my local library where I can reserve a room for that purpose...
A portable screen is perfect for me...I'm in, and I'm out...
Trying to figure out which one to buy..
I purchasefd one of those hoop things which was a nightmare...fortunately I got it off Amazon which made it easy to return...

I have a issue with my current portable green screen where lighting can be seen through it, does this have that issue?
I haven’t thoroughly tested it with a lot of light behind it. I have some bulbs directly behind it (touching) that will show up ... but as long as it’s evenly lit, there shouldn’t be any problems
Where did you get the brick wall image for the green screen when editing?

From a musicians perspective, how about if we sit closer to the green screen and then later in the editing zoom in , would'nt that work ?

so the greenscreen works that well , even if creased and not super straight/taught ?
Yes as long as you light it up pretty evenly the software can get rid of it... creases can cast shadows but if you light it, it won’t matter
POV you need a editing software that lets you put stuff on your green screen and you look up Final Cut Pro on the App Store

Question! Would 9x15 green screen work as well like 10x10 in your opinion? I don't have a green screen yet, but I'm going to order one sooner. I feel like if you going to have a lot of people in your video 10x10 would be nice. 9x15 is big enough to fit 3 people looking at the pictures on Amazon.
Actually it depends on how you use it. It could work easily, in my opinion :)

If your green screen is not big enough, try moving the camera farther back from you even if that means you have to move your computer and desk. With a camera farther away even by a foot or more you make your self smaller and hence fit into the green screen. you can always make yourself bigger in OBS by enlarging the picture and since theres a green screen behind you there wont be any loss to the video your streaming. Also you camera is 1080p or more than it will be able to flex its pixels in the way it was designed. Hope that helps.

I haven’t bought anything from wish, because I’ve heard some bad stories, but also have heard some good stories. I imagine this would be good, but the stands my be a bit flimsy
What program is goid to work with
I used Final Cut Pro while editing video . I haven’t experienced it with anything else

You can always play around with the keyer effect. Sometimes you can adjust it and it will fix everything :)

Green screen is easy IF you know how to do it AND you have the right equipment. Otherwise it's a royal pain and one is better off using natural backgrounds. Getting a quality green screen was my biggest challenge ever in photography.
Ya the big challenge for me is that I don’t use it enough to justify big money on a green screen. But you are right that there is a learning curve to do it right . Software these days also do a great job making it easier for those who aren’t that good at it lol
@@DannyBlack After numerous tries I finally got it right. Maybe I'll do a video on it sometime. A great green screen can be made for about $150 (including lighting). I do lectures due to COVID but otherwise I never would have gotten into it.
Just bring it closer to you and it won't be that small in thre camera, lol

Ya hang it up. Honestly . I bought the first one cause I wasn’t sure how I would use it, and then realized I can do some cool stuff with it... and then got the bigger one and use it all the time. So what I’m trying to say is, give it a shot and try it out, it might inspire you to do other cool things with it
Its bigger yes but its very messy in your room imo
Well, I still have the one on the curtain rod but gets hidden away, but another way to do it is to just have it folded and then use the big clamps to put it up on a wall. Thanks for watching though :)

ah, so the difference is the name brand
technically.. yes, but also the mechanics of the lift up screen and the quality of the screen are made well. But the $30 curtain does the trick!! :)
