I always enjoy your pruning videos as it's something I've never been confident with but I'm getting a better idea now after watching how you do it. Thanks Annette.
Great video Annette. Really enjoyed it. i think you will find that the whippy growths from below the soil of your plum tree are suckers from the root stock. Plums seem to do that. I prune them off my trees. I bought S. Icing Sugar last year on your recommendation. It came as a small plant so I potted it on and am overwintering it in the greenhouse at the mo. I shall plant it out after lost frost this year so it can continue to grow and get stronger. I hope mine does as well as yours - beautiful plant! Your border is looking lovely and has tidied up well. I am looing forward to some drier warmer weather in the next few days- itching to do work in the garden. Happy gardening 😃
Thanks Be. Yes, I think they are suckers and I need to take that last one out. I;ve done some research since filming and I read that we should tug the suckers off rather than cut them because then they're less likely to grow back. I will certainly try but I'm not sure I'm strong enough!!! Good luck with your Icing sugar - hope you love it as much as I do.
@@cottoverdi I had to cut some f minbe too as they were too strong to tear off. I made sure to cut then way below soil level. It seems to have worked. I am sure I will love Icing Sugar- it looks beautiful. Just love the smell of salvias too 😃
The box has had it hasn't it. But what a beautiful bed to plant up. Our salvia hotlips will be coming out of its pot which is was fine in at minus 13 and going in the ground to become a bully. We've decided to pot plants in containers and if we enjoy them they go in the beds after winter. Eccinacias? is that right ... well they were not a success. Tatty leaves and moldy flowers ... not for here again. Osteospermums is a must like Trescoe purple along the wall. I've got my fruit trees to prune as well. I read with our pear tree which sends sup suckers from beneath the graft that if you allow it, it will kill the mail plants and revert. As we have a red pear we can't have that so we too cut them off flush. Plumb is behaving so should be good.
Yes, the box look terrible. They do bounce back each year after a good prune but I'm so fed up with picking off the caterpillars and so I've decided to donate them to a friend (who has asked for them). 😁

Thanks Wendy - I used to be nervous too but the more I do, the more confident I feel!
Yes Annette, I think they were plum root stock. That salvia is beautiful 💐
Yes, those suckers needed to come out and I still need to go back and take out that last one!
Wonderful instructional video. I always enjoy your videos❤
Thank you so much Teresa 😁💚
Pleased to hear about your shoulder , 2024 will be a better gardening experience.
Yes, thank you - it's so much better than it used to be - I just need to build up my strength now 🤣
