  • Have you seen those cute clear acrylic keychains that everyone is selling in their stationary shops? I know many of them are being outsourced to larger keychain companies, but I wondered if I could make my own using the tools I have. It turns out it's easy to do. I'll show you how to set up an image trace in Lightburn to create a perfect keychain size and then we'll finish it using UV resin.

I love this I did this last year with some of my designs. I used clear sticker paper and it looked so pretty and my readers loved it. Now I want to buy a laser cutter 😂 so I can do more custom shapes

This is a great idea! i was wondering if you have tried to sandwich the sticker between two layers of thinner acrylic using the UV resin on top as glue, and because the acrylic is very transparent, I guess it would cure! I would love to try this idea but I cannot cut transparent acrylic with my laser because it is a diode laser, but I am curious

I did play around with that and it works as well. I actually went through several iterations of getting the keychain to look nice, including using Weldon on just he edges. But I thought it looked the cleanest with just a layer of a resin and no acrylic on top.

@@LabcraftStudio Oh, thank you, and it does look great with just the resin!

I learned if you keep your uv resin right by the light it will cure overtime in the bottle I’m not 100% sure if it’s true but I didn’t take a chance haha so I move it under my table or something so the light doesn’t hit it

I imagine that most likely is true. My bottle is completely 100% opaque though so it should be OK.

What sticker and laser cutting equipment do you use?
    Cricut for stickers?
I was hoping for mentions of what machines you use to cut the stickers and acrylic out.
Could you list everything used please, I’m asking because I’m wanting to make nice keychains for friends and family that aren’t shrinkie dinks and I don’t want to send my designs to a offshore company.

I used a Cricut to cut my stickers. I typically print them on printable vinyl paper and seal them with self adhesive laminate such as those by Avery.
I have a Gwieke Cloud CO2 laser machine but there a several brands out there for cutting acrylic. To cut clear acrylic you'll need a CO2 laser not a diode laser. As for the clear acrylic and I used standard 3 mm clear cast acrylic and then UV resin for the top layer.
