If I remember correctly, her first descriptions of Blaise Zabini, the Patil twins, and Cho mention that they're not white. You would expect the same for the deuteragonist/tritagonist if they were black.
The thing is it's not uncommon for theater to cast people of different races in roles that clearly weren't meant to be that race. I'm not talking about something like "Hamilton" where it's a conscious choice. I'm talking about Norm Lewis playing Javert in Les Miserables. Javert is a 19th century French policeman. I can't say for sure, but I doubt there were any of African descent at the time. His singing and acting were more important for the role. For lack of a better term, he was playing a white man.
