    I am not sure how old this video is but the Mountain View is back and its as beautiful as ever. Sadly the Balsoms is closed. If you get a chance spend a few days at the Mountain View, its perfect.

      My girlfriend and I absolutely love that place. And the harvest tavern is delicious.

      @@StrangeScaryNewEngland I am not sure of the names of the restaurants or bars, my wife would know. It is a truly special hotel. I too love the bars and having drinks on the large porch. Take care.

      My husband and I have always stayed at the Mt. Washington Hotel. We have looked into the Mountain View and are excited to check it out. Unfortunately when we were at the Mt. Washington Hotel in July there were hardly any staff to keep up with anything! The worst I’ve seen since going there. Pretty sad actually. 😑😔

    My family summered at the Forest Hills in Franconia, and later at the Sunset Hill House in Sugar Hill. I remember sitting on the Veranda of the sunset Hill House drinking home made lemonade and watching my father putt golf balls across the lawn.
    That New Hampshire is long gone, and I feel bad my grandchildren will never see it.... BUT I try to give them a vision of what it was like on the off chance that some future generation might choose to bring it back.
    AND... in the early 1970's there was a motel, part way up Kinsman Mountain called the Notchway. It was not by any stretch of imagination "grand" but the view from the dining room window surely was. Unfortunately it too is long gone.

      Why is it all gone? Much better than any nearby metropolis

      @@Dpaq13 You prove my point. None of your generation remember the peaceful valley that existed before I-93.

      @@jewishman2687 How does Sawyer Road or Zealand Road compare?

    • @jewishman2687
      @jewishman2687 4 года назад

      @@Dpaq13 Never been of the Sawyer trail (I'm assuming you mean the Sawyer pond trail). Thought about it once, but then we had an early snow, and I wasn't prepared for that, also couldn't get a pick up on the 302 side. On the zealand hike, there are places where you now can see traffic, and hear the noise of trucks and construction. When I stayed in Franconia the only paved road through there was State Rt. #3.
      I guess that's what Thomas Wolfe meant when he wrote; "You can't go home again."

      My Aunt and Uncle and subsequent cousins.... live there still. Their home had the most beautiful view of Cannon Mountain. You could see the Tram taking skiers and tourists up to the top. I love where she lived it was beautiful with a rushing brook in the back yard and I was so blessed that I was able to spend three summers there from seventh grade through my freshman year. My Uncle is now gone, and my Aunt in a home and my cousins, ( her grandkids ) now live in her beautiful home and their Mom and Dad down the road. The views were exquisite and I will always feel blessed that I was able to spend so much time there.

    Haunted. My sister and her husband stayed there with a group from his work provided by the owner of the company he worked for. They had heard rumors of this hotel having unusual happenings and what could be considered hauntings. They really weren’t scared and thought it was just novel. Until... in the middle of the night.. the lights went on automatically. They turned them off, just thinking it to be an electricity malfunction, when 2 minutes later, they go on again. This time, they felt a very dark negative energy, and they checked out immediately and drove the two hours home to Maine because they were so disturbed.
