      He said it was one of his favorite scenes in the movie.

      When this series aired, I was just 10. I watched North and South again last night, I cried watching this scene. I now understand how painful but necessary the separation was for them. So deeply in love with Margaret,but marrying her meant going against the grain of his regal family. I think Margaret too had feeling for John secretly which she feared admitting.

    i love this scene so much b/c in almost every movie that has the slightest love interest there is that one scene where the two lovers are parting and they look back at eachother or are waiting for the other to look back at them as they go in opposite directions...but no one actually says it!!!! thornton voicing that desire is just utterly heart-wrenching...

  • @anyanaganna
    @anyanaganna 15 лет назад +51

    He is such a good actor. I mean you can see it in his eyes how he was feeling. From hope and then change to sorrow and sadness when she didn't look back.

    And the snow falling:
    - 'I believe I have seen hell... and it is white'

    • @rebekahh350
      @rebekahh350 3 года назад +3

      I thought that, too! I think they really utilized that imagery so well.
      I used to play this piece of the soundtrack when I was feeling particularly bleak (teenager dramatics). But teenage drama or not, if you play this on a cold cold morning with snow falling, let me tell you... the feels are real. It feels very much like the moment where she says, "I believe I have seen hell. And it's white, it's pure white."
      If you get into the moment, it's super dramatic, but I love it.

    The power of a good actor. He speaks with his eyes, and it communicates in ways that words cannot. I have only seen a few movies that really utilize facial acting like this one, and I wish I saw it more, because it's so amazing and moving when is done right.

    I dare think that, on the contrary, he says it with a lot of emotion, with such a heart-wrenching contained despair that he means it nearly as an order -THANK YOU Richard Armitage for being such a great actor- and this makes us feel his being soooo miserable.

    i know that he literally wants her to look back, bc it would show him that she cared about him, but thinking back on the movie, doesn't she always look back when she walks away from him? or most of the time anyway? so he just wanted her to do what she always did and look back at him this last time.
    let me know what you think, i'm not positive.

      bracken snowwitch. Well, that could range from practical circumstances like a closed carriage and cold weather while it is snowing😋, to more emotional matters of the heart; Margaret is convinced that, although she knows by now that she loves John Thornton, he is already taken and she cannot have him anymore, besides the fact that at this point in time she is equally convinced that she will certainly never see him again💔😢
