On the new feeder for the girls, you might try some window screen curtains in the winter. Make them to roll up or take off. It will allow air and light but screen the flakes to drop outside the roof line. Just an idea.

my suggestion would be to lower the roof to the top of the feeder and then put hinges on the roof so you can lift it up to load it and once you finish loading put the roof back down over it

I have wanted to suggest this from the time you put out the 7 goat grain bins out of doors. They collect snow, rain, etc. Simple fix, just put on a hinged wooden cover that you can lower when bad weather is coming or at night, just like the brood bins for the chickens at night. Simple, and easy peazy. Presto, dry bins every morning.

Some areas of the east coast of Australia have received some rain, despite this there is still 80 bushfires burning and the loss of native animals and livestock is sadly not over. On Kangaroo Island farmers lost 100,000 sheep - the fires on the island are still burning. cheers from Australia. Ps. my dog is a kelpie called Maddie, she (and I) are avid viewers. She especially likes the goats, chickens and Tanner and Pluto. Maybe you could build another polytunnel for your seedlings? - might also come in handy if you continue to increase your flocks.

One way to solve the snow in the feeder. Put an extra roof extension on hinges with locking mechanisms under the small overhang so that you can close and open the sides if its getting too windy on either side and protect further out from rain.

Goooooooood Afternoon , Tracker Al , Gina & Olivia ,
A mid-January thaw is normal for me. But this one has been most of the month so far. However , winter did return a couple of days ago. Went from a daytime high of 60* F down to the teens. And today went from a low of 11*F up to a high of 37*F. The weather report says that it will warm up again for the weekend. What the heck ?? I'm not complaining though . Had some strong winds though. My front door faces due west where my prevailing wind comes from. I opened the door to look outside and the wind yanked the door right out of my hand ! Bang , it hit my rocking chair ! And I had horizontal snow .
Hope seems to be turning into quite the leader of the pack . lol I think that if you turn the pasture hay feeder to be end wise to your prevailing wind , you will have less snow and rain lowing in onto the hay . Remember , Spring IS coming !

I'm thinking you need to use siding to close one end of the goat feeder and then turn that side into the prevailing wind direction. At least it would protect the majority of the time. Of course being on skids in the winter it might act as a wooden sail and slide a bit in heavy wind storms but that would save you having to move it yourself.

we didn't have any either, until friday evening. it had been 40*F and raining. Started turning cold, rain to ice, then to snow, then back to ice, getting colder by the hour. By sunday night it was -3 *F without the windchill, gusting up to 40 m.p.h. and only 18" of snow (shocked me such a small amount for as long as it snowed) with ice under and on top of the snow!
And of course they didn't plow most of the roads bcuz it was Sunday, they don't like paying triple time to the road crews.
So, driving was interesting. Going to the store at 12 m.p.h. behind a car that couldn't stay in his lane & no room to pass was crazy!

8 balmy degrees this morning. Not sure what a goat stand is unless it is a milking stand for two or more goats...but outside? Probably not. I'll just sit in this comfy corner over here and wait patiently ;)

I think its a watering trough for the goats, the un-roofed part is for the rain catch barrel.

Ok. I’ll take wild guess. A rabbit hutch? Just wanted to say I really enjoy the videos and I’ve learned a lot watching you folks building things. I hope it’s not going to be too long before we know what the mystery building is. Have a great day all.

I thought I was the only one who used my mixer to make my meatloaf. If you don’t try it. You don’t get all messy and the meatloaf doesn’t get over worked and tough.

A nice LED light bar would be nice for the tractor.

I’m thinking it might be a bus shelter for Olivia to use. A porch swing would be nice once you build a deck.

That was a good throw of the chicken feed that Olivia did today; good job Livy!

Hang a tarp off the corners and that should illuminate some of the snow getting in there

Maybe you can redo the hay feeder for the boy goats to make it the same as the new one for the girls so the hay won’t fall out for the boys. Update your new hay feeder for the girls with the lower roof like others have suggested here first. Consistency makes things look nice and efficient

I think it's a bus stop shelter. If it is make sure you make something to hold an umbrella holder in it.

Yep, you difinitely need a garage built for that type of temperatures for your vehicles up on the side of house and have a nice walkway to it.

I was looking at the hay feeder in the boys pen. The roof looks lower over the feed area. I said I thought Gina's build was combination bus stop for Oliva and roadside produce stand, now I wonder if it might be an outhouse for the farm. 🏚

Its a moose feeder with a dance floor. I love it! Or Al's dog house with skids.. the closer to the tree line Gina puts it the more you are in trouble! Maybe its a portable greenhouse

Look forward to your video every morning. 16 inches of snow yesterday, 4 degrees F this morning. South of Buffalo.
