They are the irreverent, supercool kings of that 70s jazz-funk-rock I completely relate to! There are simply no deficient songs from The Dan, just new perspectives yet be discovered! My favs be: Green Earrings, The Fez, FM, Kid Charlemagne, The Caves of Altamira, Aja, Black Cow, Babylon Sisters, Haitian Divorce, Night by Night, Bodhisattva, & Pretzel Logic. Keep the faith along the journey fellow sojourner!!
Steely Dan is an advanced music appreciation class. The level of musicianship is as high as it gets.

Kid Charlemagne tells the story of the rise and fall of a San Francisco drug manufacturer named Owsley Stanley, a famous LSD chemist of the 1960s
Not just a chemist. He was the sound engineer for the Grateful Dead.
Steely Dan is a great American rock band founded in 1971. They had a lot of great hits such as "Dirty Work", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Hey Nineteen", "Josie", "Aja", "Deacon Blues", "FM", "Show Biz Kids", "Babylon Sisters" etc."
Rock based on blues, jazz, funk, etc. I'd say they're a jazz-rock fusion band.
"The Caves of Altamira"! A deep cover with CRAZY horns.
Steely Dan never made a bad song! My top three of their songs: Doctor Wu, King of the world, Deacon blues.
Can't Buy a Thrill, and Countdown to Ecstasy from Steely Dan are 2 great albums from my teenage years.
"All the white men on the street" refers to the cocaine dealers everywhere.
"Haitian Divorce" is Johnny blaze fire
