These were better cars then the ones they replaced. I still see them on the road today and they still look futuristic. Funny thing is, theyre just as safe as modern cars without side and head curtain airbags. And the interior is roomier than a Dodge Charger.
And the funny thing is that version of the Camry was basically a copy clone of the previous gen of the Taurus and Sable. Ford should have sold the Gen 2 92-95 Taurus and Sable for 2 more model years for 96 and 97 in my opinion. The introduce a Taurus that looks like the 2000 design in 98'.
@@ironinquisitor3656 In some ways yes and in some ways no. The Duratec had certain issues that you didn't have with the old Essex such as cams warping and IMRC failures. But it doesn't blow head gaskets for no reason lol. Some of those 3.8s are bulletproof tho, I've seen some go over 200,000mi without being opened up. Duratec isn't much quicker than the old 3.8 despite having 60 more hp. Proof torque is what matters more.
@@user-sk1eh3pg6j I agree about the torque. People go "horsepower this horsepower that" but forget about torque. If you mod the 3.8s with the head gaskets of a later version of it from the late 90s Windstar or Mustang it solves the issues with the head gaskets.
I had one that I loved.
Had an 02 Taurus sedan. Was in the shop monthly by 120k miles plus transmission problems

The design of these made them lose in sales to the Camry...at least that was the major reason.

Wrong. It wasn't the design. It was the price. These were drastically more expensive than the second generation. They were also better cars too.
@@user-sk1eh3pg6j The 3.0 Duratec they introduced on that gen of Taurus was far more reliable than the 3.8 Essex motor from the previous ones.
