I remember being 15 and they played this at a live show after A LOT OF BEGGING from the audience, and the audience sang the childrens' part.....wow...what a memory
my specific performance was at the Warehouse Live in Houston in....2008? I think I found a video of a similar thing happening by searching live performances of the song. It was very haunting in the small intimate space of the Studio room though.
this is their encore song now, they're on tour right now in case you didn't know. But if you didn't it's probably too late lol all their shows sold out almost immediately, luckily i was able to get tickets to 2 of their shows and had never seen them before last night. It was definitely something i will never forget. I grew up listening to them and it was a must to see them if they ever got back together haha
Most underrated band of all time. Been listening to them since Blueprints for the Black Market in 2003. Blessed to finally see them live for the last time in Florida in December.
my favorite favorite favorite song makes me feel like crying sometimes especially driving on the road through virginia and west virginia forever it makes evrything better beautiful song!!!!
I've heard allot of people saying that all Anberlin songs sounds pretty much the same, you know what I tell 'em? If it aint broken, don't fix it. Never change Anberlin, keep on rocking!
I wish more people knew about anberlin because there music is amazing. Wanna hear another great song? Dismantle Repair by Anberlin almost as epic as this masterpiece.
This is one of the most amazing, breathtaking, and outstanding pieces of music in recorded music history! Seriously, every note is amazing and not one second of this epic masterpiece is left to go to waste. This is musical brilliance at it's best!
A quite recent band but wow, how great are they !! Whenever I feel a bit down, I just have to listen to them and BANG !! I'm up to anything, one of my favorite band of all time !!
More I listen to this song, better I know my soul. It's crying from joy that something this beautiful has just reached it and my soul is now free :D This is an epiphany.
stuhlz This song isn't talking about God. The band said it's about a father who was a pastor who left his family, supposedly for the ministry. At this point I want to say that because their is not vocal inflection or nonverbal communication in comments like mine, I want to make sure my comment to come off as coming from a know-it-all. I only know this info from a sibling who did some digging on the subject and I'm sure you know lots that I don't I just thought you might want to know.
Sad that such an amazing song has so many ignorant and negative comments. I personally am not Christian, but I still appreciate the beauty of this song.
I find it amusing that some of these people have nothing better to do than keep track of what arguments they are having with someone likely hundreds of miles away... Epic way to spend time! Then again, I am taking 30 seconds to write this comment. Worth it.
I know, right? The whole song is a massive buildup to him loosing his faith, and the last 2 minutes are him finally surrendering to God and choosing to not give in. It's chill-inducing.
I am so happy there are people like you. Yes we can't argue with unbelievers all we can do is talk with them and teach them. The Holy Spirit can do the rest. The only time we should argue is if they start teaching false stuff. Even Jesus got mad in the Bible when people disrespected what was right, by throwing parties in the temple and proclaiming false teaching to people. You seem to know the Bible pretty well. Thanks again. TazKongMcgraw
These lines give me the chills: "Widows and Orphans aren't Hard to Find" "Wish your drinking would hurry and Kill you" "We're not questioning God" and of course the best " We're no better, you'll see, Just all of us the lost causes" I'm seeing them in La Mirada tomorrow, cant wait!
thats one of the best part about their songs, you can listen to it blindly and just enjoy the melody, or you can analyze every last word and then truly understand the meaning of the song
Been listening to anberlin since I was like, 7. Gotten through the worst in my life using their music. And when I felt my most callous and numb I played this song to remind myself how to feel
I'm an atheist, and i found two songs i really liked that were interpreted by christian bands. This proves music is different than words. IT IS ABOUT THE MUSIC, because that is the real cure to everything :) Make love, not war :)
@yeti0609 nice... I just saw them yesterday at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and everybody was screaming "feel good drag, Feeel Good Drag!, FEEL GOOD DRAG!!!" so they played feel good drag at the end. It was so crazy because everybody was moshpitting like crazy!!!
@maxoutmusic it was just pure amazement, high energy, both my shoes were ripped apart by the end of the show, and they played Ready Fuels last! It was so cool, the college crowd was awesome, they never stopped moving, and they played a perfect set, opening with godspeed and all, nothing is better than a good band and a good crowd, and thats what we got =)
There is always a meaning in a song. Its the main purpose of music. Sending messages or stating a problem that should be changed is the usual situation. Thats what songs can do. They can make you think in certain ways. If you are thinking about that, then they have done half their job. The other half is the emotion and the way they present their lyrics. I feel they have done that, so this is a good and complete song :] Oh and Anberlin is awsum x]
I LOVE the tragic nihilism of this band !!! When I listen to this I know TWO MASSIVE facts : 1) That whatever on earth is going on, I've accidentally won and wound up in the hot-seat.. being asked the crucial questions.... and 2) This timely band is helpfully offering a soundtrack.
this song is the kind of song that soothes your heart and soul. this band is fucking amazing and if you hate this band you don't know what real music is.
One of the most beautiful and breathtaking songs I have EVER heard. Kudos to Anberlin for producing such a remarkable masterpiece.
Very good song.
I remember being 15 and they played this at a live show after A LOT OF BEGGING from the audience, and the audience sang the childrens' part.....wow...what a memory
They were closing with this on their last tour, such a great night
please tell me there is a video of that somewhere
my specific performance was at the Warehouse Live in Houston in....2008? I think I found a video of a similar thing happening by searching live performances of the song. It was very haunting in the small intimate space of the Studio room though.

Lucky you...

I remember back in the day this was in one of my favorite halo montages, still remember it. :) miss those days.
My absolute favorite part is when the kid choir comes in. It sounds amazing with the heavy guitars and drums.
Anberlin and Taking Back Sunday are two of the most talented American rock bands ever!
My top 2 favs
Best album closer ever!
I really need to stop falling in love with bands that aren't together anymore.
Just give it a couple years. You can see them again.
No problem, there are a ton of great artists that are dead, not together is hardly a barrier.
Surprise
they announced a album for this suffering..
New album and touring right now...
This song is amazingly awesome, but most of their music is very enlightening and heart felt. love this band!

This is one of the most amazing, breathtaking, and outstanding pieces of music in recorded music history! Seriously, every note is amazing and not one second of this epic masterpiece is left to go to waste. This is musical brilliance at it's best!
Am I the only one who feels like their heart is getting ripped out of their chest?
AH!, this band is flawless.
Thank you for posting that! I always said his lyrics are like modern psalms, and this proves it!
The best song that was used in Counter-Strike 1.6 movies! I fucking cry when I listen to this... I love those memories & this whole song.
I love the choir, Realy Uplifting, I loved the way Fragtality and Sticktality Used this and Feel good Drag in the Contest Winning Montage (halo 3)
Thats what brought me here 12 yrs later :,)

The best part of the song is that last line you mentioned. I love the buildup into the distorted guitar, just great.
These lines give me the chills:

"We're not questioning God" and of course the best " We're no better, you'll see, Just all of us the lost causes"

absolutely beautiful song! I love it!
Anberlin together with Dredg are for me the best alternative rock bands. It's so a pity that they're not playing anymore. They put poetry in music
So True !
I got no words to describe this song... wonderful.
anberlin is so freakin amazing!!!
"We're not questioning God, just those he chose to carry on His cross." One of the most powerful lines I've ever heard in a song.
eRa Prisma + Muzik!
I co-founded that clan, really happy to see how far they're going
@maxoutmusic

I love the way this song's rythm increases in speed slowly.
this isn't a song, this is an anthem!
duality is easily the greatest montage of all time, cod4, cod5, h2, any game
What an epic song! Amazing layers of musical arrangement and prose.

I love this vocal! Amazing song!
I LOVE the tragic nihilism of this band !!! When I listen to this I know TWO MASSIVE facts :
1) That whatever on earth is going on, I've accidentally won and wound up in the hot-seat.. being asked the crucial questions....
and
2) This timely band is helpfully offering a soundtrack.
