You’re right-they were babies. The ages they give in the interview are their Korean-reckoning ages: in American terms, they were each about 2 years younger than what they announced. By American standards, JK was 15; Jimin and Tae 17; Hobi was 19, Namjoon was 18-almost-19; Suga was 20, as was Jin. Personally I was kind of squicked-out when I realized how young the three maknae were when they made this, but if their moms were alright with it I can only gulp and go “OK.”
I read somewhere that during their debut days, they were financially poor so they had to wear "knocked-off branded clothes". Some veteran Armys even gifted them clothes for stage performances and kitchen utensils for their dormitory. During xCeleste introduction video about BTS, she mentioned about they managed to perform in their Debut Stage coz they were filler for another act which was cancelled last minute. Their performance had to be cut short due to time constraint. Not sure is this video was the filler debut stage. They were not popular so not many invitations from broadcasting companies. BigHit had to promote them through social media instead like RUclips, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Glad that Armys have loved and supported them through their struggles and hardships💜

So fans at that times sometimes jokingly said bighit might bankrupt cause of the money they spend on styling bts(some were the stylist's own clothes) But antis were mocking that bighit is so poor so spread rumors that bts are wearing knock-ups,insisting bts is copying luxury brands,report every pics of bts to the brands to check if its fake even counting numbers of stitches and buttons (funny thing is that some were found that "their oppas" are the ones who were wearing knock ups lol)

In Korean age you are already 1 year old when you are born and then you turn 1 year older on January 1st not your actual birthday. So for instance V was born December 30, 1995 but 2 days after he was born he was already 2 years old by korean age. So the ages they say in the video are 1 or 2 years more than what they actually are.

Korean culture organizes hierarchical social relationships based on age. Juniors must treat seniors with respect, so knowing someone’s age is critical. Everyone born on the same year shares the same age, so they are equal. But a person born a day before the new year will be a year older than a person born a day after, and will thus be their senior.
Yes please watch that performance! It was also kind of epic because back when they promoted those songs their performances got cut short, camera work was often awful (didn't catch the cool moves) and now they were like "look at us, we always had cool songs and choreo". It's very unusual for veteran kpop artists to perform their debut songs on an award show! In fact i don't know any veteran kpop artist that ever did that.
Bulletproof part II and No More Dream are still among my favorite debut songs. They are still fire to listen to even now. And yes, Jin grew so so much through the last 8 years. The way he found his own voice and worked so hard to become a better vocalist, dancer and performer is honestly quite inspiring.
Jimin also has a signature growly voice and that was called for in this song. He also sounds breathy in other early songs. I would suggest watching the much later stage, I think it was late last year of the MAMA performance of Bulletproof Pt 2 to compare them.
It may look dumb to you but everything they did is what they did for a reason... the lyrics and everything they choose have meaning and they really put their hearts and souls into what they created and there is purpose. They should def throw in more jk raps.... I mean they were so young here but if you listen he wasn’t just rapping but singing most of the chorus a well... you have to think to yourself how good this kid was for him to be the main vocalist here, sub rapper, the center of the performances and dance line at the age 15 .... the part you said is “mad catchy” was jungkook singing the chorus . Jimin back then was trying really hard to be "manly" in later years he settled into being more himself - the softer, sexy sweet Jimin we know today. He has talked about that openly. All their vocals were immature then. They were still finding their way musically and vocally. Their Hip Hop roots are definitely on full display.
He was forced to act manly as said by him...he was very shy and even cried when he knew he had to show his abs...he never wanted to do it...but they were just debuting, so he had to. Thank god things are better now
This info is in fact not quiet accurate!! On the contrary Jimin had no problem with his body or showing his abs! He worked hard on them and was proud! Jimin indeed took pride in his manliness! He just didn't want to be known as only "the one with abs" as opposed to his vocals!! Jimin preferred and clung to his manly image and tried to keep it. Even RM said he had an image and body of being manly but with the cute baby face! but the role the character given him by BigHit was the image of being cute & sweet! He even was required to play down his athleticism since that role was already given the 'golden maknae' who also had to constantly fit his role with the pressure of winning all the time as well!! Haha!! It was indeed just the opposite! Jimin hated and found it difficult doing aegyo! He didn't like the 'cute' role that was designated to him, but finally learned to play along and accepts it! Thats what I felt bad for, lol, not the 'manly' image which did suit his true self but the cutesy one that he didn't like because he like representing a manly image! In the song Filter' it gives you the truth there! He said to army I'll be anything you like me to be which was apparently the cute & sweet Jimin! But he did realize they liked the sexy as well! So at least on stage he was allowed to be himself!! He even said during Festa 2019, to RM that it was difficult and confusing at times to play the role the image of BTS JIMIN as opposed to the real Jimin which wasn't necessarily the cute image that army seems to prefer!! He also said at that time that he always had confidence in himself!! This is all contrary to what many seem to prefer to believe!

I actually like Jimin singing in his lower register. It's just a nice little treat when he sings this even in concert. Oh their age is the korean age, so just minus a year.
I really like this reaction. It's super interesting going back and looking at their older music and their debut and seeing how they've changed and improved. All of them have come so far in terms of their personal technique and skill, as well as the image and concept of the group as a whole changing pretty drastically over the years. Jimin, V, and Jungkook were still going through puberty and it seems like their voices hadn't settled into what we know them as yet. V especially got hit with the puberty stick real hard, visually (jawline and cheekbones) and his voice dropping like five octaves. All three of them grew up so much. I kinda feel like they're like my younger siblings sometimes. I think that Jin and Suga are the ones who look the most similar to how they do now is because here they're 21 and 20 respectively so physically they're mostly fully developed. They've only gotten more handsome over time. Jin's vocals have come so far and I'm so proud of him for that, he worked very hard 😭😭 RM and Suga had already had experience in the underground hip hop/rap scene so that's why their flow and technique is great. And yeah, Namjoon does have the initials "RM" shaved into the side of his hair, as well as the Jonah Lomu 11 in his eyebrow lol. Hobi was connected through his hip hop dance crew, Neuron, but only started rapping seriously when he became trainee and developed his skill with BH (he also featured on Jo Kwon's song "Animal" in 2012 when BTS was still pre-debut). I love older Bangtan, from the "BangTAN!" intro with the body pop to the rap heavy songs to the kinda cringey outfits and styling (the perm, knock off clothes, chains). I'm so dang fond of them and their baby selves. They want it real bad, they're desperate for success. I wonder if they ever thought they'd get so far as they have. They did win Best New Artist/Rookie of the Year at three different Music Awards after their debut. I hope to see more reactions to their older music someday. I hope you have a great day/evening! I love thier old look IDK why but I fell for them when they were like that so I love it and I saw them grow so the difference isn't really that big for me And they performed these songs in mama 2019 it's really fun to see that...how they are better dancers and singers and rappers
RM has said in the past that he thought he had to look a certain way to be considered real hip hop. Then he realized that he just needed to be himself and what you see now is more of them just being themselves. They have way more choice now on styles of clothes. They are way more involved in everything. This was the very beginning when the company chose more stuff than they did.
I've seen parts of this but never actually watched the whole thing. I love that right from the get go they were making meaningful music. Suga's opening lines about wanting a big house/car/rings and then saying he actually he didn't have any big dreams seems like a criticism of rap culture with it's emphasis on materialism. Much of the rest of the song is about South Korean's extreme emphasis on academics and how you should just pursue what you're passionate about. Hope you check out the mv's too cause I feel like the camera work for the hat dance is much better in the mv. And j-hope in the no more dream video is just...there are no words.....

Maaan they were working from the early morning to the laate night. I mean they didn’t even sleep. They were working at 3 a.m. 4:00 a.m. 5 a.m. THE WHOLE DAY. They were practicing, practicing and practicing. For 15-16 hours. They deserve everything.💜

This only group I can think about in 2013 that was very heavily hip-hop influenced is BAP even tho they debuted in 2012 but both groups gave off similar vibes. Some people even say the BAP could have been as successful to BTS if it weren't for their terrible company. I do hope you react to BAP eventually! Ohhhh I am new kinda and I've heard the whole discography and all hidden/ pre-debut/covers of them. I am proud they are so talented. To be frank I've never listened to any Artist discography and BTS I'm am happy I did. Earlier Hip Hop is golden for me. Dark & Wild is one of the best album.
Yes, there is a Bulletproof Pt. 1 but I've only ever seen it performed in concert and I don't even remember which concert it was. Probably one of their earlier ones performed either in Korea or Japan.

They debuted with a bang and a purpose to scare shock the entire hallyu industry which, in my opinion worked 100%, because as soon as they debuted, haters and major companies scrambled to do everything to put them down. (Obviously, they instinctively know BTS will be a threat to their biases 🤷♀️) they were cut off from shows, air times shortened and even shamed in some shows they guest in... But we all know how they ended up 😏 the more they tried to kick the boys down, the higher they rose from the ashes.. 🤷♀️😂
About a year ago on MNET KPop channel they had a special with BTS watching their debut stage. It is funny to see how they rib each other & then they get us in the feels by reflecting on their success. It's still up to watch as of a day ago.
I think they were trying so hard back then to achieve a certain look/feel. You could really see how hard they were going with everything, their moves, their looks, etc, etc. And I appreciate the hard work and dedication to it all even though I don't necessarily prefer how over the top they were going with it haha. These old songs are among my favorites though. I always have "We are Bulletproof pt2" on my playlists haha. And "Attack on Bangtan".
Please bear in mind that Korean ages add 2 more years (korean calendar, korean new year) so in actual fact, if they state they are 17 (it's our normal 15 years) and so on
Omg I remember when BTS first debuted. At the time the hip hop scene was super prevalent. I believe Big Bang was active and BAP, along with BlockB. And the era with YG doing the whole “who is next” for Ikon and Winner. This era I thought their bullet proof song was hella catchy but it’s so easy to see that this wasn’t their original style. And it was not an image suited for them. Their softer songs were more for them. And Big Hit was such a tiny upcoming company, it was shocking to see a new company aside from the big 3. But when it came to the mama awards I remember everyday me and my friend, we would vote for them for new artist. And it was soooo sad when they didn’t win. They’ve grown sososososososososoossoso much and just remembering as little babies who didn’t have much presence to now is shocking to me.
Btw We are bulletproof and no more dream are pretty heavy rap sogs as you can see so, they cant show their vocals, but for example in "i like it" that is also from their debut album has some pretty vocals from them ( still, they got sooo much better now a days haha)
You should watch the no more dream performance that they did at their epilogue concert in 2015, it has a whole dance break and you can see how far they have come since debut. The performance is so amazing.

You should check out the 2019 Bulletproof performance at MAMA, it was a MASSIVE flex for them to perform the songs they were mocked for now they are bigger than the Beatles and you can hear Jin's low notes waaay more developed. Namjoon and Yoongi had been doing this since they were 13, they were rookie idols but veteran rappers, at this point they had their sound down pat. You should check out some of their teen year raps, they can be found online and they are fascinating. You can hear Namjoon's voice change in months, there's one earliest song where his flow is RM but his voice is JK, he was 14 then 😢

Ugh I remember the video of Jin tearing up after this stage because he didn't preform as well as he wanted to😭 Tae looks so different, and I agree that all but Suga and RM sound a bit different. Its more than likely because they rapped in the underground scene before joining. Where as the other's had a lot less time to work on the kind of tone they wanted.

He just didn't want to be known as only "the one with abs" as opposed to his vocals!! Jimin preferred and clung to his manly image and tried to keep it. Even RM said he had an image and body of being manly but with the cute baby face! but the role the character given him by BigHit was the image of being cute & sweet! He even was required to play down his athleticism since that role was already given the 'golden maknae' who also had to constantly fit his role with the pressure of winning all the time as well!! Haha!! It was indeed just the opposite! Jimin hated and found it difficult doing aegyo! He didn't like the 'cute' role that was designated to him, but finally learned to play along and accepts it! Thats what I felt bad for, lol, not the 'manly' image which did suit his true self but the cutesy one that he didn't like because he like representing a manly image! In the song Filter' it gives you the truth there! He said to army I'll be anything you like me to be which was apparently the cute & sweet Jimin! But he did realize they liked the sexy as well! So at least on stage he was allowed to be himself!! He even said during Festa 2019, to RM that it was difficult and confusing at times to play the role the image of BTS JIMIN as opposed to the real Jimin which wasn't necessarily the cute image that army seems to prefer!! He also said at that time that he always had confidence in himself!! This is all contrary to what many seem to prefer to believe!

I really like this reaction. It's super interesting going back and looking at their older music and their debut and seeing how they've changed and improved. All of them have come so far in terms of their personal technique and skill, as well as the image and concept of the group as a whole changing pretty drastically over the years.
Jimin, V, and Jungkook were still going through puberty and it seems like their voices hadn't settled into what we know them as yet. V especially got hit with the puberty stick real hard, visually (jawline and cheekbones) and his voice dropping like five octaves. All three of them grew up so much. I kinda feel like they're like my younger siblings sometimes.
I think that Jin and Suga are the ones who look the most similar to how they do now is because here they're 21 and 20 respectively so physically they're mostly fully developed. They've only gotten more handsome over time. Jin's vocals have come so far and I'm so proud of him for that, he worked very hard 😭😭
RM and Suga had already had experience in the underground hip hop/rap scene so that's why their flow and technique is great. And yeah, Namjoon does have the initials "RM" shaved into the side of his hair, as well as the Jonah Lomu 11 in his eyebrow lol.
Hobi was connected through his hip hop dance crew, Neuron, but only started rapping seriously when he became trainee and developed his skill with BH (he also featured on Jo Kwon's song "Animal" in 2012 when BTS was still pre-debut).
I love older Bangtan, from the "BangTAN!" intro with the body pop to the rap heavy songs to the kinda cringey outfits and styling (the perm, knock off clothes, chains). I'm so dang fond of them and their baby selves. They want it real bad, they're desperate for success. I wonder if they ever thought they'd get so far as they have. They did win Best New Artist/Rookie of the Year at three different Music Awards after their debut.

RM has said in the past that he thought he had to look a certain way to be considered real hip hop. Then he realized that he just needed to be himself and what you see now is more of them just being themselves. They have way more choice now on styles of clothes. They are way more involved in everything. This was the very beginning when the company chose more stuff than they did.
Back then, they mostly used Tae to do the growling parts. So nice to see that again after so long!
I've seen parts of this but never actually watched the whole thing. I love that right from the get go they were making meaningful music. Suga's opening lines about wanting a big house/car/rings and then saying he actually he didn't have any big dreams seems like a criticism of rap culture with it's emphasis on materialism. Much of the rest of the song is about South Korean's extreme emphasis on academics and how you should just pursue what you're passionate about. Hope you check out the mv's too cause I feel like the camera work for the hat dance is much better in the mv. And j-hope in the no more dream video is just...there are no words.....

They were practicing, practicing and practicing. For 15-16 hours. They deserve everything.💜

This only group I can think about in 2013 that was very heavily hip-hop influenced is BAP even tho they debuted in 2012 but both groups gave off similar vibes. Some people even say the BAP could have been as successful to BTS if it weren't for their terrible company.

Yes, there is a Bulletproof Pt. 1 but I've only ever seen it performed in concert and I don't even remember which concert it was. Probably one of their earlier ones performed either in Korea or Japan.

They debuted with a bang and a purpose to scare shock the entire hallyu industry which, in my opinion worked 100%, because as soon as they debuted, haters and major companies scrambled to do everything to put them down. (Obviously, they instinctively know BTS will be a threat to their biases 🤷♀️) they were cut off from shows, air times shortened and even shamed in some shows they guest in... But we all know how they ended up 😏 the more they tried to kick the boys down, the higher they rose from the ashes.. 🤷♀️😂
About a year ago on MNET KPop channel they had a special with BTS watching their debut stage. It is funny to see how they rib each other & then they get us in the feels by reflecting on their success. It's still up to watch as of a day ago.
I think they were trying so hard back then to achieve a certain look/feel. You could really see how hard they were going with everything, their moves, their looks, etc, etc. And I appreciate the hard work and dedication to it all even though I don't necessarily prefer how over the top they were going with it haha. These old songs are among my favorites though. I always have "We are Bulletproof pt2" on my playlists haha. And "Attack on Bangtan".
Please bear in mind that Korean ages add 2 more years (korean calendar, korean new year) so in actual fact, if they state they are 17 (it's our normal 15 years) and so on
Omg I remember when BTS first debuted. At the time the hip hop scene was super prevalent. I believe Big Bang was active and BAP, along with BlockB. And the era with YG doing the whole “who is next” for Ikon and Winner. This era I thought their bullet proof song was hella catchy but it’s so easy to see that this wasn’t their original style. And it was not an image suited for them. Their softer songs were more for them. And Big Hit was such a tiny upcoming company, it was shocking to see a new company aside from the big 3.
But when it came to the mama awards I remember everyday me and my friend, we would vote for them for new artist. And it was soooo sad when they didn’t win.
They’ve grown sososososososososoossoso much and just remembering as little babies who didn’t have much presence to now is shocking to me.
Btw We are bulletproof and no more dream are pretty heavy rap sogs as you can see so, they cant show their vocals, but for example in "i like it" that is also from their debut album has some pretty vocals from them ( still, they got sooo much better now a days haha)

You should watch the no more dream performance that they did at their epilogue concert in 2015, it has a whole dance break and you can see how far they have come since debut. The performance is so amazing.

You should check out the 2019 Bulletproof performance at MAMA, it was a MASSIVE flex for them to perform the songs they were mocked for now they are bigger than the Beatles and you can hear Jin's low notes waaay more developed.
Namjoon and Yoongi had been doing this since they were 13, they were rookie idols but veteran rappers, at this point they had their sound down pat. You should check out some of their teen year raps, they can be found online and they are fascinating. You can hear Namjoon's voice change in months, there's one earliest song where his flow is RM but his voice is JK, he was 14 then 😢
