You're absolutely right. He loves playing. Love entertaining. Loves spreading his knowledge and joy of the guitar to anyone he meets. Not to mention he's one of the most humblest, not only musicians, but people, ever. Great person all around.
I just finished watching the 2004 " This is Your Life ." from Australia. I have never seen his story presented. I know why he shares his soul with us in concert. I was at a concert in Cincinnati at a Catholic High School Auditorium with my Little Martin It was my 70th birthday.. I made it to the Meet and Greet and Tommy impressed me with his sincerity and he told me about his little daughter as he signed my Little Martin followed by singing and playing "Happy Birthday " ON MY GUITAR !! Even at 70 I was walking on air !! I count this as one of the highlights of my life.

I will never forget that night... i was there with my girlfriend at the time. It was Valentine’s day and this concert was the last thing she wanted to do that day but I dragged her out anyway. We almost broke up that night and you can see us 45:54 after she had been crying during the intermission. I wanted it to be a good night so badly and when silently watching tommy it was. Even still it was such an incredible memory..

There's a lot to be said about learning the Chet Atkins et al approach to guitar from the outset. Finding time to get a handle on it later, as I am, is a challenge as it will have to become an additional add on to your regular practice schedule. And it won't come easy. Especially if you have been only using a plectrum and have no fngerstyle experience. I am fluent with chord/melody, but this is a different Kitty. The Boom Chick aspect. Tommy is an absolute Master and has been for decades. I think it's really required to at least have a few numbers down with this style. He is such an inspiration for us.
