El Cantante " is the 1978 signature song of Puerto Rican salsa singer Héctor Lavoe and the first single from the album Comedia . The song was written by Rubén Blades and produced by Willie Colón . [1] The 2006 movie about Lavoe's life, El Cantante , takes its title from the song.

Good band, great musicians the kinda of jazzy adaptation was good, I would prefer to add some strings like the original version, the vocals have good voices great range they have there own style and they did a great job, my opinion when you step on this style of music specially if you tried to improvise or like we said "sonear" you better be ready, in every verse you have to have your raming on time and with that flavor and that uniqueness, make it you own, otherwise you be lost, if you don't havit just sing the original verses try to sonear, does are big shoes to fill specially........Hector Lavoe el cantante de los cantantes

Surprised the bones are not sitting in more of a traditional way, so the bass bone would be on the end, and lined up with the bari sax.
I have love for PMO cause they’re a good orchestra but there’s certain songs that are classic that shouldn’t be made a lot of changes to when performing it, and “El Cantante” is one of them. A little change ok but not too much as they did on this number.
I’m not discrediting them because they are great, but once again there are classic songs that don’t need much for how great it is.
Huge fan of PMO but i agree. Here less is def more. They did a stupendous job on the Stevie Wonder song. Go listen.
