    Can you explain the “This writer has no publishing on this work” option ??? Is that for people that own their own Publshinh

    • @EMims-dx1bi
      @EMims-dx1bi  3 года назад

      No, that option is usually used when the writer does not have a publishing company and has not designated any publisher to collect their writers portion, or when the writer does have a publisher but you just don’t have the information at the time you are registering the song…if you select that option, you still have to assign the correct percentage to the unknown publisher…if any money is generated before the publisher info is updated, it will go into an escrow account (I don’t know if that’s what Ascap calls it) and be held for a certain amount of time.. I believe 2 years, and if you update the publisher info to reflect the correct publisher within that amount of time the money will be dispersed to the writer and the publisher, if not, I believe the uncollected royalties either go to Ascap or get dispersed to the top earning writers.. not sure.. On a side note: if you’re having troubles, you can always call Ascap and speak to a rep, or even make an appointment to go up there and they’ll walk you through it in person and answer any questions…

    Hi, do you know how to register Chinese song titles with ASCAP?

    • @EMims-dx1bi
      @EMims-dx1bi  3 года назад

      Hello, No I do not...but I would guess that you could just give them a call or email customer support for Ascap and they could help you.

    Hi quick question, What do I do if I am part of a group and am responsible for writing some parts of a song, but the other people who helped write the song are not members of ascap or BMI, how do I get the writers share to equal 50% when I am only entitled to 25%. Thank you.

    • @EMims-dx1bi
      @EMims-dx1bi  2 года назад

      Hey.. you would just assign the other 25% to an “unknown publisher”.. if it’s two other writers, it would be 12.5% each..etc.. then whenever they do get a publisher, you can update the registration at a later date to whatever publisher they have..

    I registered my first song ever diddle dance back in January 2021 , my song has been played a few times over multiple platforms, however when I check for royalties it keeps showing nothing, I’m new to this and it’s frustrating, I’m not sure if I’m missing a step In the process? I don’t expect a lot of royalties but sure I’ve made at least $1 by now ? I need some advice on what is it that I’m supposed to do after submitting song to ascap ? Sound exchange? Or other good sources that can expose my song and gain more traction? Thank you

      Hey Tavaris...Ascap pays royalties quarterly, so that's only 4 times a year, but you should've received something by now if you had any royalties, assuming you registered it correctly. If you did everything I said to do in the video then you should be ok in that department. The other thing is that every platform does not report to Ascap, or pay Ascap to use your music. I've only been paid royalties from Ascap on songs that have been placed on major television networks...or major radio stations. I have not received anything from Ascap for RUclips, internet radio stations, instagram, college radio, smaller radio stations...etc. Another thing to note is that Ascap doesn't have an audio copy of your song, just the title, your writers info, and your publishing info...So if a platform does not ask you for those things, you are most likely not going to get paid through Ascap at all for that performance. Ascap doesn't have any idea that your song is playing on that platform, unless that platform notifies Ascap with the appropriate information. So, if you registered correctly, and any of those platforms requested your Ascap info, then I would contact Ascap customer service or submit an email to customer support through your Ascap account to see what's going on. As far as what to do after you registered your song, you have to promote it or submit it to as many places as you can. Ascap isn't going to do any of that. Most successful artist pay a marketing company to manage digital and physical campaigns, perform, you can make videos yourself on RUclips, Instagram and Tik Tok, demonstrating your talents. There are a lot websites that you can submit your music to, but most of them charge you without guaranteeing any particular results. But you could google something like "How to release and promote my first Song" and you'll get a good amount of information to go off of. I was lucky enough to be part of a reverbernation program that doesn't exist anymore where I could submit songs and they would pitch them to music libraries..thats how I got most of my major placements, but it wasn't a lot of money, since every company in between me and the placement took their cut. I definitely couldn't live off of it. You can register your song on sound exchange, but you still won't get hardly any money unless your song is playing on major platforms...at least I haven't, and they don't do any promotion or marketing of your music either.

    Aye I have a question, my producer didn't tell me about ASCAP until 3 years and 5 million streams later, so when he registered our songs he named himself as Composer/author and himself as the publisher. I jus signed up with ASCAP but only as a writer but I haven't signed away my publishing rights. I guess my question is, Do I need to register all 100 songs we did and name myself as author and my independent label as publisher, and then put his name as Composer and then his publishing?

    • @EMims-dx1bi
      @EMims-dx1bi  2 года назад +1

      Well..you can edit or dispute the registration by just emailing customer support while you're logged into your Ascap account and tell them the percentages aren't correct or that you need to add your publishing info (just make sure you get a publishing account before contacting them)...and the 100 songs...yes..you or him should register them in the format you described, but jut make sure the percentages are correct.

    If im a rapper and producer gets 50 percent why does it go over 50

    • @EMims-dx1bi
      @EMims-dx1bi  3 года назад

      I’m not sure what you mean exactly.. but the whole song equals 100% .. the music accounts for 50% and then the lyrics account for 50%.. so 50% of music plus 50% of lyrics equal 100% of the song.

    • @EMims-dx1bi
      @EMims-dx1bi  3 года назад

      @@moderntalezpodcast2632 if you’re the only rapper then 25% has to go to your writers and 25% has to go to your publishers.. if you don’t have a publishing account you should create one..a publisher has to collect half of your writers.. so you really wrote 50% of the song but a publisher has to collect half of that..I don’t know why but those are Ascap rules..
