Stacking the speakers tends to sound better IMO because you have twice the air being pushed from the same location which actually makes the bass sound louder and way more powerful, not to mention how high the insanity factor reaches at that point because of how sick these speakers look when they are stacked. I miss this stereo so much, not even a week after I got it my dog knocked it off this chair that I had it on, and it killed it, which wasn't covered under Sony's warranty. It also sound best when you place each stack of speakers two corners of a room.

Interestingly having two of them is better because the two "front" speaker outputs output the lows, and the two "surrounds" output the highs and the front speakers are made out of a thicker wood, then the surround and are more geared towards the lows, and the surround speakers have a louder punch. What i'm getting at is that if you just use 2 front speakers in a tower, the bass hits freaking god like.
