Petr is a genuine story teller, a part deux would be too much ask for, great talk. I recall being happy when Karel came to Montreal too, so happy this young buck had someone close to talk with and bond. Praise Serge Savard for his work, he had the instincts a GM needs to make ballsy, bold stuff happen.
Another great episode, guys. Svoboda was a great, underrated player. And, he was tough - small, took a beating, but kept getting back up. It's no wonder considering the conditions he and his family endured.
You guys were my heroes as a kid. I still have my number 25 and 30 jerseys that I got for two Christmas in a row. I don’t miss an episode this is an awesome podcast.
Got to play a little tennis with Petr and his brother at a little club in Hudson, Quebec when he lived in the area. Both great guys and good tennis players... Thank you Chris for another great interview!
in 1986 the Winnipeg Jets hosted a blood doner clinic & the Habs were practicing. I snuck in and the one thing that I remember is that Knuckles was pissed at Peter for some reason and was smacking water bottles off the bench and pretty much gooning him all practice. Brotherly love to keep Svoboda tough in the 80's NHL.
Another stellar podcast. I loved Petr and after seeing this, I love him even more!!!This guy had balls of a gladiator. Very inspiring and insightful person. Loyally is his primary quality. Its in his DNA
Excellent episode Chris, Tim & Petr! Took a lot to do what he did especially at a young age with no family with him either! It was always a pleasure watching Petr play being a defencemen myself. Keep the shows coming guys! Best hockey podcast on YT!!
Chris and Tim your podcasts just continue to get better and what a player Petra was and what he had to go through to get to the NHL certainly took a lot of courage and perseverance.
Best podcast out there ..Love hearing stories from behind the scenes. Chris is a natural at asking the right questions and Tim is perfect co host. 🏒 Hockey players are the best 👌..
Well that was a great podcast. Very interesting perspective and very straightforward and honest delivery. Svobota seams like the kinda guy you would want as a friend.
Simply unbelievable life story . Great to hear it from the source . Thanks Petr. Followed most of your nhl career since i started watching nhl regularly just before you started. As always Chris thanks for this super chat. Not forgetting about Tim ever, welcome back speedster:) you guys are awesome. Big thanks all the best from Halifax, Nova Scotia . Keep er goin boys!😊
Chris you look super healthy . You and Tim make a great podcast. Hope you will have one eventually with Slav and his parents. Will never forget his mother’s reaction at the draft .
What a treat! These guys were not allowed to speak in those days except for clichés. We all thought that Serge Savard helped him escape. He had over $70K is aid money! 50% of his 1st signing bonus went to taxes! I'm surprised the Nordiques didn't get him out sooner with their connections but they were picking 15th and probably knew he would be taken before because he wasn't exactly a Stastny surprise because other teams opened their eyes.
I remember a SI story about the Habs when Chelios was a rookie! They mentioned the rookie initiation and Petr who had recently defected was scared because they blindfolded the rookies and brought the into a room, I think to shave their heads!
Excellent episode !! Chris Nilan you're very good sportcaster!!! . I remember you as a player when i was a kid, but happy discover: All the best King !! (I'm french so my english is maybe a little bit hallucinating)
Hello Chris and Tim great podcast....Chris I just wanted to comment on your career.... you could actually play hockey and skate ....so for other teams you were a very dangerous player
Robinson didn't participate in morning skates? I never noticed but it must explain why I never saw him on the Atwater de Maisonneuve corner in the mid 80s.
Best podcast on hockey buy a long shot! Stay at it guys the rewards will come!!
But chris is a lgbt supporter tho....lol what a disgrace lol
@@Oliver-fs2epas long as he’s not a LIB

Great interview guys!
For people who say the current Habs don't need enforcers, ask Petr.
Chris and Tim your podcasts just continue to get better and what a player Petra was and what he had to go through to get to the NHL certainly took a lot of courage and perseverance.

That 1984 draft is on your youtube...i just watched Petr get drafted (and walk out of the tunnel he describes)
Great interview Chris
and Tim
Great podcast, like the interviews. You should try and stay on a 1 per week schedule and release the episode the same day every week.

Very slick and smart hockey player.
Amazing player
My guys!
Peter Freedom! (Svoboda)
Petr needs to write a book about his defection. Thats a crazy story.

CRIS NILAN IS A GOD IN Montréal, 👏👏👍👍😎😎
Rules are only suggestions 😊
Chris buddy. Please invite Brian skrudland. Russ courtnal,
Should have Petr speak to the American athletes about taking a knee on this country
I love Petr's accent! A real nice guy no doubt, but unfortunately I always thought Svoboda was very plain as a hockey player...
Love this pod Knicks and PS CLASS ACT CANADIENS,TIM A GOOD CAT TO
I’ve got to stop watching knuckles podcasts, all the players I hated growing up aren’t as bad as I thought.
