Wow those stairs turned out to be a really great facelift for the interior. Loved that a lot. Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Super job! You’ve motivated me to start a similar project on my SO42iP. Scheduled for my 2025 “to do” list but I may begin sooner. Thanks!
amazing mate! let me know how it turns out
Love the addition of white for contrast really works well. Your vessel is no longer a somewhat sad looking forgotten love, she is now looking modern, new and fresh nice job mate. PS I do love it when you use words like taps, it's so rare on RUclips these days lol.
thanks Ian, ive lived outside of the UK for so long now i dont think i speak very british anymore! every so often i get reminded i actually am
Hey mate you are a sanding animal ! My advice is to invest in some kind of dust mask and something for fumes for the varnish . You did excellent work bringing the wood finish back ! Cheers !
thanks mate, yeah i actually for a mask shortly after 👍
Thanks! Was just about to sand down and varnish the trim around my galley on my SO42i. Great help for the project.
oh the 42 is awesome. thats what i actually wanted for years but went bigger when i started a family etc, good luck with the sanding mate
lovely job 👏 stairs look wicked 👊
cheers sean
Looks mad mate, what a transformation!

You have made it your own. Well done for achieving a great outcome.
thanks Ross, much appreciated

Nice job. Really lifted the boat look.
thanks Jay 👍
It looks fantastic!!!

Awesome upgrades. Great idea to use the white wrap in areas around the salon and galley. Nice work,,,,
thanks mate 👍
Looks awesome!
cheers dude
Laying in bed with Johnny watching this and I’m getting anxiety about the dust!! We both agreed you should have taken the cushions off first but Johnny said it’s a man thing!!! It’s looking bloody amazing inside. Kudos to you 🎉
Hi Jules! removing the cushions is a lot of work! Johnny has the right idea! 🤣
@@OceanCruisers 😂
Great job mate 👍!
cheers mate
You must be proud as punch - awesome work. My Mrs has been at me to lose the couch from the middle of the saloon - she saw your refit and just nailed me "see, Andy did it and it looks great - told you" - have to admit it does look better - another of season job on the list! She looks brilliant - I'm a woodworker and can appreciate the effort that goes into all that sanding down! Preparation is 9/10ths of the finish 😁 Robin
im sorry to cause you a problem and give you another job mate 🤣 i think it does look better. See you soon!
Very competent jobs. Even Fast Andy was smooth. Aesthetics are great
cheers herb!
Great job
thanks Bill
nice work Andy , try putting the Hoover on your sander . will save you cleaning up so much mess later
🤣 i started doing that pretty much a week after this
Pride clearly stops him from using a sander on film😂🤠⛵️
You did a great job of cleaning up the crime scene at the beginning 😂
😂 twas rough
Andy, lighting off a sander inside a boat without removing every piece of kit is a sad state of affairs.
worked fine brother!
My first thought too,but hey, whatever gets you through the night.
We’ll done mate
cheers mate
Looks nice I don’t like the white behind the stairs but that’s ok everyone likes stuff a little differently
cheers Mike 👍
Savager meets a Wombles soundtrack…..👍
🤣 a winning combo!
Great job, congratulations! We just purchased a 40.9 that needs some touch up and I wondered whether you tinted the varnish. If so, any tips? Thanks.
no just clear varnish, it all had a slightly amber hue to it but i used 4 coats or clear gloss then 2 coats of eggshell
@@OceanCruisers That's very helpful, many thanks.
I am still waiting for you 3 petulant pirates to come up with the ubute, deluxe yacht. The Aussie, the Scotsman, and U. Luv ya work on this refit..........but ya gotta get back to shit stirring basics.
Come on Andy ya gotta give it a crack. Get the 2 up in the north and the other 2 that are gunna fry themselves in the Pacific. Luv ya work young fella lookin' pretty spiffy. Oh.........and now I find ya blue. Well done.

im not a part of the admiralty anymore mate, Ads is managing it now. Ill be giving you my shit opinions on this channel instead!
That huge carpet in the saloon will be a nightmare to get to bilge areas and once it gets wet traffic
give it a wash, good as new!
@@OceanCruisers nah I ment access to the stowage under the floor
Hey Andy. I bought myself a 54ds and was looking for this orange hue on the varnish. You mentioned "amber clear". Can you tell me what product did you use?
yeah mate. it was epifanes, the normal one. i did 3 coats of gloss and 2 satin.
More like Fast Sandy
next time im using this 👍
Andy I had that exact same shower panel! Good on you. How did it work? Also are you going to be at the Annapolis boat show this year?!
i love it mate, a posh boat shower. yeah i will be there this year mate. doing a bunch with the YCA, you'll be there?
@@OceanCruisers Was super excited to be invited to the YCA early this year. I will definitely be there. Let me buy you a beer at Pussers!
@@outsidethelinessailing sounds good to me mate 👍
Not sure you will see this, just watched and curious how you access the bilge and such under the carpet?
its on buttons, so i just lift a part of it up. it takes no time really 👍
Hey Andy.
Considering the stairs primer, as a Greek, I can tell you that they gave you wrong product!
On the label it says literally "primer for metal surfaces" 🤦♂️🤷♂️
yeah i know, but the boat builders here swore for adhesion to wood its the best option. it seems to have worked, lets see if it sustains
Yep.
I'm also curious now!!! 👍
Did the metal primer on the stair area last?
The carpet is in . Check the bilge alarm mine was powered by a 9 volt battery. . Trust me it wasn’t good
havent got a bilge alarm actually. my port water tank is leaking into the bilge, it would go off every 10 minutes at the moment
What is the boat model?
jeanneau 54ds
lol under 1k, is that because your time is valueless? mine sure isn't.
good luck mate!
she is too big !!
never
Please throw away this dummy of an sanding machine right now. Get yourself a sander from MAKITA, Festool or Mirka. Most important is the dust extraction. If you don't have a vacuum cleaner get one, a household model which can be used on the boat later might do for the small project of refurbishing the interior. You will find dust for years and years if you go on with that Bosch. But it's also the quality of surface this leaves in comparison to the ones I suggested. This Bosch is very high, resulting in an really unsafe lead of the machine. You won't be able to achieve a smooth surface like with the ones above. There are reasons for phrases like "buying cheap means buying double ". Good tools are mandatory for satisfying results. A good sander saves also a lot of sandpaper, so it will pay back immediately. This green nonsense from Bosch must be forbidden...
280 on bare wood is absolute nonsense. Where did you get this from? 150 or 180 is fairly fine enough for bare wood as the scratches will be invisible. Sanding varnish 280 is fine, maybe even 360 or 400 for the last coats. Fine paper will improve the flow of the varnish. Sanding inbetween coats is not necessary for any paint I know. Just the time will always be different.
It's important to thin especially the first coat to ensure it soaks into the wood as deep as possible. The second coat can get less thinner. Good results are also achieved by painting coat on coat right away with a little time inbetween, maybe 4 hours. If you got enough surfaces in one go you can begin at the first point when you finished the last one. This builds good thickness.
my method worked fine! Cheers
