Classic case of the engineer being more talented than the artist. He's fixing and cleaning up things that artist should have under control in the first place. It easy to get caught up in that concept .
This is still my favourite Universal Audio video. Not even my kind of genre but I enjoyed the music, enjoyed the personalities, and saw great demonstrations of the plugins in a real-world scenario. As others have said, it was refreshing to have a guest who knows a thing or two about the process who could give some valuable input to the conversation. More of this, please!
The engineer is fun which make me the artists comfortable and allows him to feel more free. Great recordings start with a good attitude from all parties. Great work guys 💯
UA needs more videos with this man. I always appreciate when an artist is super involved and knows the recording process/understands the tools they're surrounded by! Great content!
how's it going, listen I'm a blind producer with limited vision and understand protools and UAD perfectly, but I have a question since I can't follow along did they place the Autotune on a unison slot or on a AuX? also can you explain in detail how to start flex time on the autotune because I have no clue thanks in advance.
The interaction between these two gentlemen is exactly how a paid session can turn into a timeless/priceless learning experience on both sides. This was beyond refreshing. Subscribed, going to follow Grieves on DSP's and grabbing voxbox and 1073 lol. Really great video. S/o universal audio!!!

Ladies and Gents, This is how a studio session should go EVERY TIME! As an Engineer, you should EDUCATE while you work with your client. an Educated Artists will maximize your workflow by 1000%! Patience is KEY!
Dope, doper, dopest!! Great video, great learning gained. I’m gonna listen to Grieves all day now. Ben, the way you present and educate is so transparently great. Every word in both of your conversation was teaching something. Simply brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing!
I absolutely love all these RUclips tips and tutorials. You guys should definitely do more of these videos as well as the 5 min tips or tutorial on how to use all the other UAD plugins that you guys have not covered yet. These are very handy and very on point. It helps a lot of producers/engineers, and artists.
This is one of the most to the point, informative videos I've watched by UAD. These guys are really having fun as well and that is contagious. Well done!
Coming back to this approx. 3 years later after getting most of the current plugins, only difference is i am using an Aston Mic and Logic PRO X. Much appreciative still of this video! Thank you!
I love this video explaining all the different functions and the result you get by chaning it! Gonna dust off that Manley Voxbox and have fun with it again!
Yeah that was a fun watch.. listening on my Apollo X6 with my mic ready to go on a track I'm working on... and I have the Manley and Auto tune loaded up as well. Thanks UA!
When I first bought the Apollo twin 6 months ago this video was Was like trying to understand a new language now I understand, that’s how I know I’m getting better! Proud to be UA!
How many times have I watched this video? Too many times. So many gems on here and the descriptions of each plug in helps so much. Just got my Twin X and it did not come with the LA2A but it so much amazing with all the plug ins already on it
Update! I spoke with the Universal Audio customer support and they told me how to authorize all of my plug ins through the dsp meter control panel! All of my plug-ins work correctly including the Teletronix La2a compressor. Thank you Brandon from Universal Audio.
Fantastic video UA [and Grieves - saw you on tour - transcending smoothness on this joint!] during this I've learned more about how to use my LA-610 Mk II Channel Strip [yeah, I know thats not what your using lol] - what shelving is, gain staging, how to use a HPF to make good background vox, and seeing all this in real time [dual video of grieves killin' it while the engineer tweaks the UAD plugins, you can see, hear and understand whats going on much more - as you break it down using engineer terms but in a way thats accesibly as I hear you two going back and forth [between the explaination of both grieves and the engineer - I catch the context in a way thats an epiphany [Ah-ha!]. Keep making informative, accessible great content that drops knowledgee bombs, makes me wish I had the desposible income for even a SOLO [let alone an apollo] and UAD plugins [also not cheap but beyond impressive - that Teletronix [isn't that what the T4 Optical Compressor in UA LA-610 Mk II Channel Strip is based off? or am I thinking of something else? Wow, thank you for posting this. It was informative, concise, entertaining, cool to listen to and interesting to watch as you both experimented and created in real time. Fine singing and nice engineering, you two have some great talent and chemistry. Cheers!
Grieves, I like your style a lot. A lot Hip-hop artist like to kind of talk the lyrics but I prefer the melodic style which is what a singer does with lyrics instead. The voice melody makes a whole difference. Great job!
Great dialogue and atmosphere with these two. Not sure whether the singer stopped cooking but the auto tune had a negative effect on thickness/presence IMO. Neve and LA2 sounded great - the tape saturation was notable too.
Great video fellows! Great record, great vibe and some great sounding equipment. Very informative, rapper was also very knowledgeable, Ben is always a pro. Got me thinking about UA products...Super.
Not hip hop but more of a neosoul vibe. Either way this video was great. I have all those plugins and can’t wait to implement those settings on real hip hop rap vocals.

@@RodneyD so another words I’m correct they placed the autotune on the auxiliary, can you watch the video for me when they placed autotune because he states it very clear when they say let’s activate flex time and maybe you could tell me I really appreciate you getting back to me it means a lot
well done guys, i love my apollo, made so many songs in the bhangra asian music genre, ua is the best product out there no doubt, my 1176 and la2a my 2 fav , big up universal audio
Sounds amazing. We've come so far.. Does anyone remember 25 years ago in the studio?? I would LOVE to hear a side by side 1073 & LA2A comparison of the hardware vs these plugs. I know there are some out there.. can anyone point me to one they've found that they like? Great video UAD..
Muy bueno! despejaron varias dudas, ojala hicieran reseñas, tips, en español, como cuando grabaron en colombia!! pero que tambien fuera en español este tipo de videos! De igual manera Gracias!!
Yo UA, I'm not trying to spend your money for you, but Give Ben Lindell a raise. He's the perfect blend of knowledge, manners, and interesting.
Completely agree! He does a great job and I'm always happy to see when he's doing the videos.
I was just at thinking that
So refreshing to watch artists that fully understand the process!
yes! i sometimes forget that some of these new cats were coming from producing and mixing their own stuff, several of my colleagues were like that

One of the better UAD real world tutorials with clear explanations and results! Bravo
👍
The LA 2A Sound with the neve was my favorite. Really dig that song and his voice on it 🔥
Grieves is a very cool dude. Great video! Was far better than an episode with an artist who does not have any idea about those things.
Glad you enjoyed it!

It's good to see how the singer understand all the tracking process and the UAD plugins are the best in the world. Great job guys!!
This is the pinnacle of songwriter-engineer synergistic workflow. Very educational, so grateful for both of them.
Awesome vibes, great UA tools. Ben is a natural with his guests. Grieve's brings the sway.
Which Ben? lol
