One thing that always bothered me about those .exe games is that they were supposed to be based on old 8/16 bit cartridges, yet a lot of them feature sound files that would not be compatible with the aforementioned cartridges. I know it’s just a minor thing in the grand scope of how bad a lot of these games are, but it doesn’t do much to save the atmosphere of what they were going for.
Isn’t that sorta the point though? The games do things they’re not supposed to… cuz like, an evil entity is living in the game. If the entity is sentient, taunts the player and is potentially able to escape and kill the player, why is it surprising that it can make the game make sounds it’s not supposed to?
@@MutedAndReported3032 you have a point there, but I feel like it would be just as unnerving if all of that stuff unfolded within the sound font of the game.

Hi there. I'm the person who originally wrote the Sally.EXE story for some contest. Yeah, the one who stole Chinelin's entire video. I threw together a video telling the whole story a while ago. There's not a freaking DAY I don't regret writing that junk. To call it junk is way too nice of a word, but I think RUclips wouldn't like the more appropriate way I'd describe it. Thrilled to see Chinelin come back and leave a comment. I really hope they're doing well. In the end, I just hope the Sonic.EXE trash finally dies. The whole reason these crappy games exist is because of some god-complex, giantess-foot-fetishist on FurAffinity and it provides excuses for people to not do a creative take and make actually interesting spooky games based on media that they loved. It all has to be executable files now. Simply rancid. :( The good games from those collections are the ones who break away from that formula, so I hope more people realise that, unless you want RUclips clicks, Sonic.EXE will only hold you back. I'm actually shocked to find out Shmorky is the one who created Zalgo. You've got some really good and interesting points about this collection of games. Fantastic video!
@@DriftStar13God has infinite mercy. And for what it's worth, I left a comment on the video of the remake stating that creepypastas are no different than drawing dicks in children's books at the library.
I think you might be a bit misinformed... the Sonic Mania engine (commonly referred to as Retro Engine) isn't used for Sonic.EXE fangames. Most EXE fangames utilize existing framework engines not related to any official Sonic Engine.
Remember, just because a game of any genre has amazing art and gameplay mechanics doesn't mean the story and implementation of multiple endings is equal to groundbreaking celebrity talent. Most of the modern "Creepypasta" games are loosely based on merely anything and follows the same trope of an old arcade era game being haunted by a deceased person's spirit.
11:50 i'm glad you mentioned the creepypasta sonic animation. for some reason i never see it being mentioned in any other video talking about sally.exe which is sad because it's honestly the funniest part about it
What'd ya expect? They think taking a random existing character and giving them bleeding eyes, blank pupilness eyes, wide grin with sharp teeth, or huge gapping mouth = scary.
Duuuude, you have absolutely NO IDEA how much I HATE these ".exe" games. As someone who was born in the mid 90s and played exe games on dos back in the day, the fact that these mediocre, shitty creepy games exist just makes my search for old .exe games all the more difficult 🤦♂️
Sites like MyAbandonware should have some games, and there are also sites with names like Old Games (various sites with a name like that) that can have some less known games too (though some of them aren't in English). If all else fails, Archivedotorg is likely to have DOS game collections or just uploads of certain games
The rabbit hole goes even deeper, the creator of Sally.exe(JoresuOni) came clean in a... surprisingly mature post on deviantart, where they confessed that they stole the idea of Chinelin and only did that to impress their friends, they also said that the "tentacle" part was supposed to be freaky but ended up looking like some weird fetish instead. To make the TL;DR: Joresu admitted that writing Sally.exe was a mistake and apologized towards both Chinelin and MY5TCrimson, which makes me respect Joresu a lot... at least more than the feet-obsessed furry, yeah you know the one, lmao. Also this user is actually dealing with mental health problems in a mature way, I always respect people who are aware of their problems and want to deal with them, I instead *don't* respect people who use their "tragedy" as an excuse for being shitty towards others... like the aforementioned feet-obsessed furry lmao.

This wasn't quite enough, but it was close.
Luna Game didn't came with the ".exe game trend" it appeared waaay before and it wasn't even a horror game more like a troll game with some scripts. That people from the 2011 thought was a virus.
I was listening to this in the background, and when I heard Dig Dug.exe coming up, I won't lie, it got me off guard lmao. I may be a few months late, but it makes me happy to hear you enjoyed the game! Little fun fact, but I used to play a lot of Dig Dug when I was younger as well! I actually liked it so much that one time when I revisited it with my young cousin, it sparkled an idea to try recreating it just for the fun of it...but when I heard of a "exechallenge" (yes, that is a thing) coming in, I thought it would be fun to try and make the game a horror experience as part of the challenge. I also recommend checking some of these games created for the exechallenge too! while there are some of them that are of "low quality", there is also a lot of high quality games submitted that I believe it's worth checking out! Some of my others game can be found there as well (not to the level of Dig Dug, but I believe it is of good quality as well.) :)

Still pretty good concept, the thing is that the origin story of EXE and the fangames are the best thing about it, the actual games are mid
Also I call it an entity since “Sonic.EXE” is the name of the disk, the name of the entity is “X”
Also “Lord X” is the same entity as this one, just after a few years or decades (This entity is 1300+ years old, yet it actually simps for Sonic, EDP will he proud)
I always liked games that go outside the box, from Nier Automata asking you if you liked the game and then asking if you want to donate your save file to help another player, to sh*t like that Dig Dug game
It can be really fun (or really f*cking scary) when done right
Also the first Nier
All I gotta say is, thanks sonic.exe for making an entire generation of kids scared of a file format
It ain't just kids. You ever go to save a funny image on the internet only to be met with the .webp jumpscare? Terrifying.
@@suparockr oh ya the terror of webp. Hate those things
MagicMush always know how to deliver us great content!
Good video, EXE games def evolved from their inception
Four minutes in
"he must dead"
Off to a great start, I see.
I'm glad someone else appreciates the effective horror of creepypasta Applebloom
Thanks for the insight RUclips user cumbrap
More videos when, Tumblr goat man
Your old vids were transphobic and terrible but I still like seeing you pop up in comments lmao
We miss you cumbrap 😓
I haven't forgotten you all. Just be on the lookout. The time is nearly at hand. Soon we will all achieve "Heaven"
Awesome spooky content for a spooky day! Happy Halloween!
Apparently there's more than one Luna game
There's 0 - 5 I believe and a fanmade Luna game but it's still that early 2010s creepypasta standard
Which was scary back then but not so today
"the end is neigh" is actually silly enough that I think if I played that game and got spooked the laughter from that would jar me out of it
giggling at the ghostie, if you will
I remember reading an interview from the original creator. That was actually just an unintentional misspelling.
I need a full version of the QTE music from Mario.exe. Gets my blood pumping, man!
1:12
wow, the fangame is now twice as old as the combined ages of every member of its fanbase
“The end is neigh” got me. 😂
Ah, the Creepypasta era. From 2011-2017, it was quite a time.
Apparently Sonic exe just got remade.
@@ianfinrir8724 God knows no mercy
@@DriftStar13God has infinite mercy. And for what it's worth, I left a comment on the video of the remake stating that creepypastas are no different than drawing dicks in children's books at the library.
At least you realized how bad that story was, unlike the original creator.
You know it’s a great Halloween when MagicMush uploads.
11:50 i'm glad you mentioned the creepypasta sonic animation. for some reason i never see it being mentioned in any other video talking about sally.exe which is sad because it's honestly the funniest part about it
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who saw the Toy Story.exe series as somewhat competent
What'd ya expect? They think taking a random existing character and giving them bleeding eyes, blank pupilness eyes, wide grin with sharp teeth, or huge gapping mouth = scary.
This is another entertaining video, I remember watching .exe creepy pastas on RUclips and are questionable but it’s great to see you talk about them.
If all else fails, Archivedotorg is likely to have DOS game collections or just uploads of certain games
calm down woody we're your friends
So it turns out the creator of the original fan game apparently also deserves to be in prison like the writer of the OG sonic exe story
? I believe its children making these lmao what have you made out of curiosity
youre one of those youtubers i always have to watch when they release a new video
i still cant believe all those creepy pastas i grew up with are now borderline retro and that theres fully sentient children now that were born after those things were at their peak. genuinely will never be another time quite like it
Not gonna lie, the intro sounds you made for ToyStory.exe, LunaGame.exe and DigDug.exe could be at least unnerving if used in the right hands 😳😂
(and DigDug.exe looks, unironically, good and original to play without falling too much into the predictable .exe game tropes)
Good video 😂😂❤
Better keep pumpin out this content. Always good to see you upload. Been in a nostalgia mood this entire last year.
Okay so my childhood nickname was Jake and I had this playing in the background while I was working on the game engine I'm coding so Imagine my suprise when I hear that TTS voice at 7:11 (which previously I had only heard in The Mandela Catalogue) saying that name
It takes a lot to make me scream. This wasn't quite enough, but it was close.
Luna Game didn't came with the ".exe game trend" it appeared waaay before and it wasn't even a horror game more like a troll game with some scripts. That people from the 2011 thought was a virus.
He literally says all of that in the video
Just when I thought I was too old to get scared by Zalgo, something was revealed to male it more terrifying than ever before
I was listening to this in the background, and when I heard Dig Dug.exe coming up, I won't lie, it got me off guard lmao.
Some of my others game can be found there as well (not to the level of Dig Dug, but I believe it is of good quality as well.) :)
the thing that scared me the most about this video was the fact you chose the waterworld map screen theme as the song near the end of the video when i just set it up as the song for usb loader on my wii lol
Ah the ancient times when you could add .exe at the and of a random word and write a lazy "scary" story
2:20 HOLY FUCK THIS ACTUALLY MADE MY HEART SKIP EVERY BEAT 💀
Same here
They did it. They actually managed to make him scary. (Not counting Faker and no more innocence)
I remember reading the digdug creepypasta as a kid and it was one of the few good haunted games stories
Sweet a new upload to dine on, and also Happy Halloween as well.
I worship the cringe of creepypastas, thanks for the video, man. My weekly injected has been fulfilled.
Real talk, Rouge.EXE's heart chestplate thing being broken is stupidly clever
27:00 that is some Sega hidden boss level type of shit that is actually creative. Now if only it’s applied with some decent boss music to bop your head too. Also how would that work on multiple monitors?
I have binged watched every video on your Channel and I am happy to do it again
As soon as you talked about diapers and then showed tails on the bench...ptsd flashbacks right there
You know exactly what I'm talking about 🤣🤣🤣
it's crazy how much of a treat your videos are. Very attention grabbing and there's always a satisfying conclusion to the video!
Believe it or not Luna Games predate Sonic.exe and caused such a scare among the brony fandom for fear it was a virus or malware (think lostboys.exe before lostboys was a thing)
Also there's 5 of them
Yes thats right 5 that tell a lose story
Playing Epona’s theme in the Luna Exe section is genuinely funny for some reason to me
I think it's cool to see Luigikid still has such a grip on the exe community. I still love his content, even if cheesy it still brings me some joy. But, a lot of the games you mentioned are for one of his longest challenges for his viewers, I don't even remember what the prizes are, but they must be good if the challenge keeps letting talented creators produce these interesting horror/.exe games such as Too Late.
Thank you magicmush
That dig dug one is so damn cool how the hell did they manage to do that?
Magic mush as always with the quality content - thanks for making Halloween a bit more thrilling my man
every .EXE game in a nutshell

[insert default ćomment about how the game sucks and everyone agrees with you]
[Insert Kafka laugh]
Didn't think I'd see Chinelin mentioned ever again, he was something of a deity in the Brazilian YTP scene way back in the day, it's a shame his entire channel is gone
Shmorky being Zalgo’s creator was the scariest part of the video
I'm a babysitter. Almost every single day, the kid I look after shows me .exe videos. He's 7 watching stuff that made me almost shit my pants in fear and gave me nightmares when I was 9 XD
The scariest part was when magicmush jumped out of the screen and bled on me
A really good .exe game (at least gameplay-wise) is Pacman.exe. It has this fog of war mechanic where the pellets are only visible in the corridor pacman is in. Also the ghosts only become visible if you within a short distance. "Scary" isn't the word I'd use, but it does make it a bit more tense. The music, sounds, and graphics are a tiny bit corrupted, but it gives it a bit more "feeling". All in all a daimond in a sea of turds
13:13 the scariest jumpscare of all, Rouge The Bat as an emo girl!
17:54 "calm down woody we're your friends!!!"
“SHUT UP BUZZ ILL KILL YOU”
And here i was thinking dig dug,a game on which you literally blow up creatures from the insideout pumping them with air was already creepy enough.
