- For today's horror fanfiction read, we decided to go over "World in Dark", a horror au by nachtluft on TikTok. This takes the iconic gaming crossover and turns it into an infection

few notes:
1. notice how Dr Mario thinks he's the good guy, yet he treats his only friend, R.O.B, like absolute garbage, leaving him to die every time he's on a voyage
2. Mewtwo is one of the most powerful PokeMon ever, there's no way he would teleport away and get stabbed to death while just laying there. He has something planned
3. this "disease" is radically diverse. it turned Piranha Plant and Inkling into lovecraftian horrors that are seventeen times larger than average, but kept Pichu really tiny. what determines these factors?

It'd be funny if it went in reversed order; the first to die in the world of light is our savoir against the infected in the world of dark.

This story doesn't really work. The creator is bound to ignore a lot of plot holes.
In the end, mewtwo has a question mark. I suspect this could mean he could be resistant to the virus. This is because in his game, Psychic is strong against poison. Since Mewtwo is a psychic type, he could be resistant to the effects, but not to just straight up dying or being attacked.
Yet psychic does not resist poison. I believe a Pokémon such as Lucario (which is Fighting and *Steel* type,) could be immune, due to Steel being immune to Poison. Offensive type matchups do not matter in this.
Mewtwo is probably at the least, more resistant if not immune entirely.
Although if Pichu is going for the kill (hence Destiny Bond), he’s cooked.

If we’re taking the properties of Pokemon types into account, Ivysaur may be another one to keep in mind. It takes neutral damage from Poison attacks, but its own Poison type means it can’t be poisoned.
We don’t see it with its trainer and teammates in the infected picture, which I think is pretty suspect if that whole group was chasing down Mewtwo. We also know from Cappy that a character’s status doesn’t always reflect the status of every part of the character. Who knows, maybe it found Leaf or something.
This all hinges on Ivysaur having survived the infection of its group, which isn’t super likely, but it could happen if they were all distracted.
They had to chop Marth's hand to nerf his grab range. Imagine getting ready to infect one of the characters and they get cross-mapped by Marth from a completely different stage

Everyone seems to forget this character, but Megaman would be a big player here. First off, he’s a robot like Rob. Second off he has basically everything you can think of, time stop , black holes, you name it.
Yeah, Megaman is more versatile then R.O.B tho he isn’t immortal, meaning he can still be damaged like R.O.B

Considering Ness has had previous encounters with zombies when visiting Threed in Earthbound, faces horrifying monsters on the daily and literally faced the embodiment of evil, it makes sense he'd be a survivor if this.

I think for me seeing the video the character I find most interesting is probably Dr. Mario, and for me the key factor is that he's arguably becoming almost as much of a threat as the infected themselves
● Dr. Mario is already a character who knows he's good as dead even if he "survives" due to being essentially a clone of a character already killed by the infection.
●Then you have the fact while he's probably the biggest assist for the survivors back at base he's also probably the one that at this point is putting the biggest risk due to his own paranoia, at the point he is at almost any newcomers he's obsessively paranoid that they are "secretly" infected. And oddly enough because he gets sloppy and doesn't make sure the Infected Pichu was dead he actually by proxy gets Mewtwo killed...or even worse infected. The ladder is arguably the worst outcome, because it'll just feed into Dr. Mario's paranoia, he "knew" Mewtwo was infected and if the incident with Pichu did actually infect Mewtwo then it'll "prove" that he cannot trust anyone else.
Honestly, to cut the rambling short. Dr. Mario at the point he is at is essentially becoming that utterly paranoid doctor in almost any infection/outbreak show you've seen or heard of. And that path could lead to a lot more danger for the survivors within, they got monsters outside and paranoia eating at them from within...
It’s because of his sanity, regularly mario would be really trusting, which is exactly why he died to Kirby, doc is essentislly key to bringing people together to stop the infection, if he dies or gets too sloppy, the universe could fall right then and there, i wish this was interactive like the actual game, and you can choose your ending.
Fun fact: Wario canonically cannot die or become infected, as stated by the WarioLand 2 manual. I can imagine him and the other surviving antiheroes foring a rival faction with the likes of Bayonetta, Meta Knight, etc.,

I'm sad and mad he died first. On one hand, Mario knew kirby was infected (also sad and mad about that one), so why did he even try it? What was his thinking process, and now he has Dr. Mario on the line for total existence erasing. And come on man, my favorite two out back to back first thing.

I think that the pills for the infection are a lot stronger than he thinks, olimar developed so early because of 2 stabs and being eaten from the inside by his pikmin.

Actually I think he would be immune because he can survive as just a Skeleton so he just removes his own flesh to prevent infection and his magic should reverse the infection

@@Noname-ud4he By the same logic though, Pokemon Trainer and his Pokemon should've been safe due to Full Restores. And clearly, he was not. Or the Inklings should've been immune because they could just splat themselves and then respawn at a respawn point. Clearly, they were not. I think this goes off of Smash logic, not the logic of their actual games.
I think what makes Luigi's death scary for me is Peach explained that only characters that received an invitation would be prone to infection, but others are only susceptible to its attacks. In World of Light, Piranha Plant cannot be rescued, and only appears playable after a certain amount of time. Maybe this AU takes place before DLC existed so the newcomers pose alarming threats to the current selection of the roster, and kills them off by surprise.

As a inkling main, I just wanna say how potentially dangerous they could be in this infection. If the virus were to enhance in such a way where they could be inside the inkling's weapon, and to be detachable as well, or to spawn on the infected inkling's ink, it would be incredibly easy for them to start spreading the virus. One might not do much, but imagine a team of them. All they needed to do, is to ink the entire area, and with special moves like Splashdown and Ink Rain, as well as a variety of weapons, they could very much do some major damage.
also seeing how the infection works with the hosts personality (like pokemon trainer wanting to catch mewtwo), the inklings probably want to ink as much places as possible
Combine this with the fact that Mewtwo is probably going to be in a 5th phase since the ? after showing he was infected leaves a sense of mystery, the author will most likely make mewtwo a very powerful infected, and since he has psychic abilties he can teleport, so the infected can teleport these inklings into areas where they can SWEEP surviving members
On the topic of weapons, lets throw a theoretical in this. Imagine there's eight infected inklings (one for each costume, I think) all with their own weapons and special abilities. A sniper would obviously be able to snipe down any enemy within range, a roller and slosher would be able to fling infected ink and cover a lot of surface, a dual gun would be able to dodge incoming attacks with dodge roll, an brush would be able to speedily get to an enemy's base, provided the team memebers are keeping the enemies distracted and pull some literal backstabbing, one of those charged heavy duty weapons could literally unload on any uninfected on sight, and don't even get me started on a ink bow and arrow or something of the sort
Strictly using the weapons seen in their move set, inklings have a Splattershot, roller, Inkbrush, Slosher, blaster, and ink bombs, so inkling boy would of been a huge threat already
Inkling girl on the other hand, has mutated beyond needing ink weapons or even a body anymore, and by merely existing has tainted the water supply in whatever universe they’re residing in, on top of still functioning enough to attack anything in proximity, making escape by water impossible
It's now I remember Inklings are a whole species.

I mean, the infection does amplify those it infects. And inklings have a history of war that's now a game. And with how innocent they look i can see someone getting taken off guard. Don't know how it survived the water though.

Likely changed the matter of his body all together. He’s made out of whatever the infection is, not ink anymore.
Snake may be a supersoldier but he's still very mortal and also considering Inklings, their ink, and how fast they are because of it, I don't blame Snake for not wanting to risk it. plus he was stung and it was weakening him.
I agree, but surely it would be more than one. The Splatoon universe has millions, maybe even billions of them. We only see eight or so in SSBU, including the female base one (aka the one that’s a huge fuckin monster)
I have a theory that Dharkon is the source of the infection, and there's 3 clues to this possibility.
1. The name of the AU is a "world in dark" and Dharkon is the embodiment of darkness
2. The way of infection is the usage of tentacles Dharkon is mostly made of tentacles
3. Most of the infected we have seen they have been twisted into these Eldridge abominations and Dharkon does look like some Eldridge creature
Is it confirmed yet? NO but he's the most likely suspect for the source of the infection.
I am guessing it pretty much a what if dharkon invaded first instead of galeem like the canon story or dharkon was able to beat galeem before world of light happen
i think it's something else entirely, not from smash or even a game, such as a virus in the nintendo infecting the malware.
Yeah that could be the case as this could be Dharkon’s way of controlling all the fighters just like Gallem had poured some sort of ooze on top of the fighters and they went under they’re control but why they are know at one stock is unclear so dharkon could be the source but also maybe not

To be fair, Mega Man is made of bio metals, so there may be a good chance the infection may have been able to impede his functions.

This is by far the most interesting infection AU story I’ve ever seen in my life I would love for the creator to make a whole movie out of this
Theory: This is all going to turn out to be some messed up new Game Mode.
This series places a suspicious amount of emphasis on the UI of Smash Bros, from the status cards displaying everything in %, to the end screens in the later videos that show the character select screen that even use the series' sound effects instead of something more ominous.
The most damning of all for me personally, is Dr. Mario's Day 8 log. "The rules of the game", Master and Crazy Hand have disappeared, characters DEVELOPING blood, the specific mention of Stamina Mode and revival...
It seems like an odd amount of emphasis to place on game mechanics and stuff if this is just supposed to be a more "realistic" world where everybody can just be killed. And it's not like this was something that HAD to be done, this stuff never came up in Subspace Emissary or World of Light itself, so why put in all of this here? This has to be a Chekhov's Gun situation where it's gonna go off later and all of these changes to the rules and game mechanics are gonna be explained, right? And my theory is that in the end, if all of the Game Modes are canon, then Subspace Emissary being a Game Mode is probably canon too, and World in Dark is gonna be a new Game Mode.

@sunsetlover123-y7c Thanks! The only thing I want to add is that I don't think it's gonna be a bad "It was all a dream!" kind of ending where nothing matters, I get why those twists are bad and why people don't like them.
I think the "It's all a Game Mode" thing is going to be more of a fourth wall breaking thing. Like, everything's going to end good, everyone is saved, happy ending, credits roll and all, and then it's going to zoom out to reveal the mode select screen with World In Dark as one of the modes, silently explaining a lot of things throughout the series.

I can just picture it now; it all takes place on the World of Light map but everything is 3D and you're in first person, you get picked to be a random character and you're forced to adapt to their abilities to get you out of situations. Meanwhile someone in the server is selected as an infected and must use THEIR abilities to catch and infect everyone. Last person standing wins.

An additional note that I forget to add in my original comment: I hope Sonic doesn’t get infected, for the simple fact that there are so many horror stories where Sonic gets infected/possessed and ends up being the main baddie of the story. Be it any of the Sonic horror stories, or fan games. I would like to see him play an active role for once, being the light in the darkness. The hero people need in their darkest times since even when all seems lost he never gives up hope. Even when something similar happened in his world, and he was a direct cause of the infection, he refused to give up. He continued fighting until he couldn’t, and even then he never gave up.
Villager is nice since he can help lift spirits, but he’s oblivious to what’s really happening. Sonic on the other hand would be fully aware of what’s going on, but he wouldn’t give up or let others lose themselves to despair.
Caliburn recognized him as the true King Arthur for a reason, he’s more than capable of being the leader people need in the darkest hour. He just doesn’t like the responsibility.
Speaking of Caliburn, I wonder if Excalibur: the blade that can cut through anything, will play a role. Or even Super Sonic 2? Caliburn isn’t exactly on hand for easy use, granted neither is Super Sonic 2. I wonder if Frontiers might factor in to things? Or is it just everything up to Ultimate? Does it cut off at Forces? If so Sonic’s Earth is still in disarray after the war so who knows if that place is safe? Granted all the facilities and weapons are still in place after the war, the resistance could simply reform and use Resistence/Restoration HQ as a base. Or even Angel Island, South Island and the Lost Hex are both no goes since those are places Smash is connected to. Then again the Lost Hex is disconnected and hidden away, while South Island is a moving island never saying in one place. The Death Egg or The ARK would also be good places to take shelter in. The Death Egg alone should be capable of destroying whatever is necessary considering it’s Death Egg Blaster, and The ARK has the Eclipse Cannon though it’s far weaker than the Death Egg.
Chaos… he’s still around if Battle is anything to go by, he’s made of water so he should be capable of stopping anyone. Speaking of water, the Inklings should have died upon contact with it since canonically they can’t biologically stand water. Their whole bodies are made of ink so it dissipates upon contact. Since they didn’t die, that means the infection changes more about the infected’s biology than at first thought. Considering it has physical changes I suppose that’s to be expected. I just thought about it, Sonic has already experienced being infected with strange things before, be it Dark Gaia’s essence which changed his body, or the Cyber Corruption with how much that affected him. Even the aforementioned Metal Virus was just another thing that he was infected with. Each and every time he not only powered through it, but found a way to use the infected power as his own. Honestly all Sonic needs to do is go Super, use Chaos Control and send the infected into the Sun like he did with the Metal Virus, if the Sun won’t work just send them into a black hole, we know it can be done.
I just feel bad for Ness, first his world had to deal with Giygas, now he’s dealing with this? Poor kid. I hope Lucas is doing alright, he’s strong both mentally and psychically so he should be fine. Considering these are both post ending Ness and Lucas they’re very powerful in their own rights. Still can’t help but worry about them though.
Well Sonic’s gonna feel like he’s dealing with an another virus again even though Smash!Sonic is a different variant of mainstream Sonic.
I dont think anything past ultimate will be used, so no caliburn or anything from forces, at least with the things that peach said it will probably be just around de places of the stages and the surrounding

as much as I like sonic he has a flaw that I think will play a part on this, he fights hand to hand, we saw what that did to marth (having a sword), but I do see him saving someone like he tried to do with pikachu on the world of light cutscene
Sonic actually has gone through a zombie apocalypse before in canon. Granted, these things are much more dangerous than your average zombot but he isn't just going to punch them like an idiot this time.
The sad thing is Sonic will probably be out as soon as he gets introduced, he always rushes in head first to save people and although he is fast, I doubt that will play a role if flipping Mewtwo got beat by a pichu

Kirby, despite being powerful enough to kill gods, was probably one of the worst picks for the infection to choose, ironically enough. Most of Kirby’s actual powerful abilities come from positivity and happiness, and no one is happy with this.
Counterargument: the virus eliminated one of its biggest threats.
Since Kirby is ultra powerful and isn't prone to a bad mood, Kirby would be one of the best defenses to the virus. Alongside fighting darkness as an enemy in the games.

Well, actually Mario and Sonic is stronger than him. And too many things Mario world have to cancel viruses, because how broken magic in Mario verse. Like Kamek who can make anything to win.
It probably chose Kirby first because it knew he could endlessly consume. He destroyed all of dream land. It probably didn't know he would get stuck there. Plus he has endless space inside him. It spreads through our the body. So it essentially made a whole dimension it could easily awake thing into and infect
Someone we need to consider though when it comes to potential survivors/infected:
Ganondorf: the man is effectively immortal unless the master sword is in play. Either he becomes one of the strongest individuals in a survival scenario, or one of the most dangerous foes (apart from Kirby of course). Not only because of the triforce of power being in play but also the fact that he’s smart as hell.
If he does become infected, I wouldn’t be surprised if he maintains some measure of intelligence.
Although, considering the events of Subspace, I wouldn’t be surprised if this infection wasn’t perpetrated by him in some capacity. Regardless, if there is an individual here that needs to have some play in how things go within the story, even in a small portion. The King of Evil is someone who might just thrive in this environment. Who knows, perhaps he may even have a turn akin to Windwaker?
Judging by how God like entities can be infected (because, y'know kirby), I think Ganon won't be much different. However Ganon is much much smarter then Kirby, and probably won't get caught as easily

If that is the case, we got a master of magic on our hands. I’m not holding my breath for the Gerudo King, but I can definitely see him not going gentle into that good night if worst comes to worst.

Personally, if it comes to deciding factors, there's only a few fighters to watch for.
Kid Icarus Cast: Pit and Dark Pit are good for scouts, but ultimately, they won't be much help. Palutena, on the other hand... a Goddess of Light could serve as a major counter, given the whole scenario is 'World of Dark'.
Cloud: Zombify is a status in the FF series, so he may have the materia on hand to counter the infection.
The Belmonts: Simon and Richter are no strangers to curses. If the infection is magic based, they would definitely play a major role.
Samus: That power suit is strong as hell, so she should be able to survive multiple encounters with the infected.
Sora: If the Plant is here, and if he's in that spot, they definetly have the DLC characters in their pocket. And anyone who knows Kingdom Hearts knows how busted that boy is.
And for the BIG wait huh character:
Byleth: A character (or possibly, two characters) who can canonically rewind time, would be beyond strong here. If they get infected, they could just reverse time, avoiding it entirely. With Sothis preventing them from fully turning, their tactical know-how and fate-defying power would make them absolutely op.
How about Kazuya Mishima? Or Joker? Or Byleth? Or Palutena and the Pits? The Aegis? All of those characters can be extremely powerful if they ever fell victim to the infection
Speaking of which, I thought of a theory, which is what if the infection was started or at least created out of dark samus, considering it is some kind of infection entity it self

If i had to make a guess...here's who I'd think are most likely to survive of the characters we have yet to see.
So First off, those who have the least chance of survival are those who specialize in Physical attacks(More than half the roster) And those who come from kiddie titles(Villager is alive, yes. But i doubt he'll stay that way) So rule basically all of them out.
Characters who use melee weapons like link, cloud, shulk, and the fire emblem guys have a much better chance, but still would probably get defeated eventually. The only ones i think would be able to effectively combat the infected who use melee weapons are Sephiroth and cloud, as they are highly trained and very powerful, as well as simon and richter, since they specialize killing monsters. Pyra and Mythra may also be hard to beat but somehow i doubt they have the nerve to kill.
As for the others, of the characters i can think of off the top of my head who would have a better chance of survival, i'll make a list.
Fox, Falco, and Wolf(Use far-ranged weapons and have dealt with an infection before)
Samus and dark samus:(Uses far range, has armor, and have dealt with mutant monsters before)
Pit, dark pit, and palutena(Angels with far range attack and they can fly.)
Mega man(Robot and far-range)
Sonic(Chaos emeralds provide invincibility and superpower, has dealt with an infection before)
Bayonetta(For obvious reasons)
There are probably a few others, though i doubt most of these characters will survive, if they haven't died already. This is just my prediction as it stands now.
I think the character I am right now might possibly have a chance because of Devine pulse but just a slightly higher chance than the ones you said will most likely die

I gotta say I feel terrible for ROB. We haven’t seen his updated health screen but based on how he fumbled Pichu our brobot is circling the drain and I’m willing to bet Dr. Mario’s sanity is close to flatlining. As for what I’d like to see here’s hoping for a buddy cop team up between Shulk and Robin. Between Shulk’s future vision and Robin’s genius foresight I’d be confident in their survival…heck throw Lucario in that mix! Those three going Olde Yeller on Pokémon Trainer would be a heck of a story.
If ROB and Dr. Mario see what happened to Mewtwo, well… It might be Dr. Mario’s breaking point. And I don’t wanna imagine what would happen to ROB. But if there is a team-up with Shulk, Robin, and Lucario, that would be insane, I mean put Demilitarized Zone (the song) during that moment. I’m still praying Lucario doesn’t get infected. I’m ok with him being dead or alive. BUT NOT WITH HIM BEING INFECTED. HE WOULD BE TOO OP (Over Powered). Honestly whatever these things are pale in comparison to what Giygas plans to do. It might just give him ideas. I wouldn’t rule out Giygas being involved in some capacity given the focus Ness has in the story. But something tells me it’s Dharkon since this is the “World of Dark” rather than World of Light. And if you remember Galeem was the one who struck first in World of Light using it’s light rays. Dharkon is the one with tentacles and embodies darkness in all its forms.
It stands to reason it’s simply a World of Light inversion, in World of Light you need to save everyone from Galeem’s control as Kirby. Here in World of Dark, Kirby is spreading the infection to everyone who is already free. Instead of attacking in the light and in full view of everyone, Dharkon struck in the shadows creating his perfect minions to do his bidding. We know how World of Light ends, and we know that the Hands are under the control of both Galeem and Dharkon. Master for Galeem, and Crazy for Dharkon.
All that has to be done is for everyone to hold out until Galeem appears and puts a stop to all of this and attempts them into his own minions. Galeem is also the reason all of the Spirits exist, so without that first attack of his, the Spirits don’t exist and can’t inhabit any replicas of the cast. It’s likely everyone isn’t dead exactly just like how they didn’t die in World of Light. Only here they haven’t been brought back yet through Dharkon’s power so who knows what’s going to happen with them.

Something interesting is that the infected retain a tiny bit of their personality, as an example, kirby ate mario (presumably) as shown by Mario's arm being in Kirby's mouth, the pokemon trainer trying to infect or "capture" mewtwo while completely ignoring mii sword fighter, and I'm sure there's a few more examples i didn't pick up on.

The virus in World of Dark is more akin to a zombie mutation, so far not possessing any complex thoughts or strategies like Sonic.exe. A zombified Sonic is terrifying because it's one of the fastest zombie ever. Sonic.exe is a demon that just looks like Sonic, Sonic's actual traits or personality doesn't really matter in how Sonic.exe acts.

Snake shooting the male Inkling means that alt costumes which change the character are able to get infected as well, which means that there are way more possibilities for infected characters then just the base roster.

Ness notes mentioned that the infected on stage 3 still have some of their old personality which is why Pokémon Trainer only chased Mewtwo because he only wanted to get and catch Mewtwo, something a normal Pokémon Trainer would want to do
we only see three Pikmin depicted Red, Blue, and Yellow, this is possibly just because the Creator didn't want to draw all the Pikmin or that Purple, White, and Winged, are still inside Olimar's body or were never found and therefore the strongest, fastest (that also has X-ray vision), and flying, ones are still out there or even loose in the bace and personally I think these are the three most dangerous Pikmin to be infected

I'm still confused on where exactly he WAS when he was being chased. Was he in some sort of industrial facility? The music had an industrial vibe at least.
Were those bullet holes in his chest? Was he in a FIREFIGHT with someone? Or maybe the inkling stabbed him.

Those weren’t bullet holes, as the inklings don’t possess real guns, and the only other character having a gun being joker, who isn’t even in the series yet. That makes it even more disingenuous to snake’s abilities if the creator thinks anyone in the smash bros verse, much less an inkling would ever be able to catch snake or anything like that at all.
@monke_lord-qq8ws I'm thinking what happened was that whatever place Snake was, was in the Metal Gear universe, hence him being shot.
As for HOW he wouldve gotten shot? I'm assuming he was sneaking around and doing his thing until an inkling or multiple of them showed up, and caught him & whatever guards or soldiers he was trying to hide from by surprise.
And in the ensuing firefight either Snake gets caught in the crossfire or deliberately shot.

Good thing Ness absorbed the power of the earth and became one with the universe after collecting the eight melodies, he should be insanely powerful as well, especially with Cappy on his side now. Though I wonder what Lucas is up to. But realistically speaking both should be able to cure the virus via *Healing* (a PSI-Ability in the Mother series which removes any disease, status alignment or anything that alters your original state of being).
I also wonder, if the infected characters keep their abilities. A infected Kirby could be quite dangerous because of his friend hearts (insta turning foes into allies).
But then again this could maybe be like smash only content is a sense so like they can’t use the heal moves and such. That could be a reason why ness didn’t say anything about trying to heal or such

I think Kazooie surviving, but not Banjo would be interesting. She really doesn't do much heavy lifting, so working without her best friend would be incredibly difficult for her I imagine.
There are a lot of characters here that could have quite a few unique interactions with this infection. Sora essentially being immune to what's going on here opens up a lot of possibilities. Kazuya has his Devil Gene, which could possibly fight off the infection given its track record. Mega Man is also a cybernetic, so he would also be immune. Sonic has his Super Sonic form, which rivals creatures like Solaris and The Time Eater. Even Steve is an interesting case, as he's shown to be able to cure any illness with a bucket of milk and is also able to cure zombies.
There's also Tabuu, if he's still around.
Lotta ways this series can go.
Or...what if the infection is versatile and adaptive depending on it's host? What if it always finds a way around immunities by beneficial mutations or even by sheer good luck (for the infection, not the survivors)? What if ALL of these guys can get infected or maybe WILL get infected, and we just don't know it yet? I mean...it got Kirby. Well, we'll find out soon enough!
So I'd like to point out that smash continuity characters are not the same as their own canon. They arent godlike beings or even canon sizes. They are all on equal playing fields. I believe this story is doing the same. Otherwise shulk can break the entire story easily. So when people say things like (insert character here) cant die, this isnt their universe. They are stuck in stamina mode anyway.
Just keep that in mind as characters are killed off when they could easily win. Or how kirby hasnt just won already.

There's also the fact that Snake uses a gun and where the hell does he in a smash game? So yeah no, they have their canon abilities/power, or at the very least most of them
@Moiraxdtt if kirby was his canon self, 1) he wouldn't be as big and 2) he wouldn't be able to be contained and 3) the others wouldn't have gotten away.
And snake having a gun doesn't really put a huge dent in anything tbh. For all we know it was done for simplicity sake since he doesn't last long anyway.
If they are their canon selves then mewtwo wouldn't have gone down so easily and characters like Ness and shulk etc would end it before it begins. Shulk can use the manado to undo it. It would cause huge plot holes/contrivance if they are canon potential so hopefully it's not the case

I dunno if anyone’s mentioned this, but mewtwo most likely SURVIVED the attack from Pichu. He’s initially pronounced dead after pichu attacks, but when we see the chart later after the attack on Peach’s Castle, his current status is left unknown. Potentially he revived somehow, could be infected, could be not. Either way, revivals are possible (in some form)
Edit: Just rewatched the scene. Apparently, Mewtwo is first DEAD, then INFECTED, then UNKNOWN, and this all happens directly following the attack at 21:27.

Me thinks that Sonic surviving is unironically one of the few things to be able to combat the infection
as shown in Sonic Frontiers, Super Sonic basically neutralizes the cyber corruption, a sort of infection Sonic gets due to freeing his friends from cyber cages
If Sonic survives or at least doesn't reach phase 3 if he's ever infected, and can get his hands on a Smash Ball, it more than likely would be a victory for the good guys.
Not to mention Sonic's speed prob would revert the infection the same way Sonic combated the Metal Virus in IDW

I love the fact that for snake's death the song is the danganronpa execution song, it's such a small detail but it fits perfectly for the tone and the specific scene it was used for! and even with mewtwo, it's such a perfect idea to use the terrifying yet wonderful songs from danganronpa

LOVE IT when passionate fans come out of nowhere with high-effort projects like this. Sure you can criticize the skill level of the artist, but sometimes it takes a project like this to build those skills in the first place. Love the incorporation of the KO sound effects in the character select death status screen. It's a nice touch. hope the creator is having a blast reading these comments

I think its cool that we have Sheik, Villager and Marth together because they are the three fighters you get to first choose after saving Mario in World of Light so you could imagine the cohesion with the timeline between World of Light. Though Ness is at Magicant during his time possessed as a candidate for someone who could be a main character for the apocalypse and hold onto a part of Mario he is a great fit. I wish more of world of light's placements were used but I can't complain with the jaw dropping moment of seeing Mewtwo neither attempt fight or flight but instead flinch and freeze. A part of me wonders about the Inkling within the water given that they typically die in water but I think it's perfectly intentional, Snake is smart and tactical likely knowing about this weakness to their biology as he made his escape but seeing as this virus and even this world changes those who get infected, it becomes all the more terrifying. I hope Mega Man is doing okay.

Steve can't get infected, in Minecraft zombies attack villagers and infect them but if steve gets bit nothing happens because he's immune, if hes immune to that hes also immune to this parasite

If we assume the infection is created from darkness. In the lore, Kirby is a reincarnated version of a void termina ( who is the embodiment of evil, hatred and darkness) while Kirby is the opposite.
This would mean that Kirby shouldn’t have gotten infected but the story is probably following the world of light’s order
