    I knocked on UFO’s tour bus after a mind-altering show in ‘95, when they reunited with Michael Schenker for Walk On Water. Phil, Pete, Paul and Simon Wright came out and they were so cool! Michael was traveling on his own bus with his daughter, Essenz and her mother, Bella Piper, who was also his manager at the time. I think the other guys were surprised that anyone gave a shit, but I certainly did and I had about a dozen close friends and family with me that night, all UFO fanatics. I asked Pete if he knew he was Steve Harris’ idol and he said, “ ‘Arry’s a good mate of mine!” I said, “Even though he stole your black and white Spandex bell bottoms?” He laughed and gave me a hearty bear hug, lifted me off the ground and announced, “I love this fuckin’ guy!” Michael gave me the pick he used for the entire show and Phil had everyone sign my SITN LP. It was one of the best nights of my life and I’ll take that experience to my grave. Great job, as always, Pete. R.I.P. to Rock ‘n’ Roll Personified, Mr. Pete Way. This is a tough one. 💔

    UFO was like a well kept secret in the States.
    Martin Birch was an extreme loss....but Pete Way was an unsung hero that won't be forgotten in my household!

    • @independenceltd.
      @independenceltd. 4 года назад +2

      @Joe Bien It's not a well kept secret that UFO didn't have much success in the US. Zero album certifications, zero singles certifications. They only had two silver albums in the UK, their home country.

    • @tempestfury8324
      @tempestfury8324 4 года назад +2

      @Joe Bien UFO didn't even come close to the successes of Boston, Journey, Sabbath, Priest, Scorps, and many other bands that were huge in the U.S.
      Therefore, a well kept secret. It's like talking about heavy metal....most will cite Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallicrap, etc...but few will mention Accept or Loudness.

    • @independenceltd.
      @independenceltd. 4 года назад +1

      @Joe Bien "'Well kept secret'?"? Album certifications, successes, etc. do matter when you're discussing whether a band was popular or not.

    • @tempestfury8324
      @tempestfury8324 4 года назад +1

      @Joe Bien : I still have my first pressing of Kill 'em All on MegaForce records. I have a good deal of knowledge on the matter. Growing up in the SF Bay area, us kids would take BART up to Berkeley to buy import albums at the original Rasputin's, and get a dollar slice at Blondie's. Imports from the UK and Japan were hard to get elsewhere. Akira, Yngwie, picture discs, live bootlegs, rare EPs...like the Maiden series and of course posters and jersey shirts....you had to go find it!
      1982, I started playing guitar, which over the years had some small local success. But it was also the first year of seeing live performances. First concert was Ozzy, sadly RR had died that March. Next show was Queen, of one the last concerts they performed in America. Hundreds of concerts to follow from Yo-yo Ma to The Greatful Dead to Rising Force and everything in between. Last show was the Winery Dogs in Sacramento at the Crest Theater.....that was remarkably good!
      Thanks for the comments! I'm not here to argue about something I believe we agree upon. UFO was a brilliant band but they certainly didn't gain the fame that so many other bands did.
      If you have time, check out Caligator. I think they're defunct now, not sure Corky is alive🤔 Point being is he's the greatest guitarist I've known that no one has heard of. "Trust" and "My Own Fault" are good songs to start with.

Always rocking on the edge of the stage and always giving 101%, it is still a shame that the band never broke big here in the states. Will miss you badly mate, but I know your in a better place. Thank you for inspiring me to play bass.

Once I bought Strangers in the Night I got crazy about UFO and bought all Michael Schenker albums within one month. I saw Pete with his band at WinterStorm in Troon last November. It's like a mini metal festival in the small Scottish seaside town of Troon, famous for being a regular venue for the British Open golf major. The great thing about that festival is the performers hang out in the foyer and are happy to mingle with the fans. Pete was no exception and was happy to chat and pose for fans selfies. He was a lovely amiable big guy with a really funny mischievous sense of humour. He must have spent a small fortune on black hair dye though. RIP Pete.

    What a rough year for all of us UFO fans. Sympathies to Pete's family as well as to the families of Paul Chapman and Paul Raymond.
    What a tremendous legacy these guys have left behind, especially Pete Way with his trademark look and style. He was a true rock and roller!
    One of the most memorable rock concert experiences I ever had was when I saw UFO on the Walk On Water (reunion) tour in the late 90's. It was general admission at the Odeon in Cleveland and I was able to arrive early enough to get first in line when the doors opened up. I had waited my entire life to see the "classic" UFO lineup with Schenker and wasn't going to miss being right up against the stage. Sure enough, I was able to grab a spot stage-right, directly in front of mister Peter Frederick Way. Little did I know that this rock 'n' roll madman was a sweaty mega-force on stage. With Pete swinging his Thunderbird bass to-and-fro for the entire evening, I was assaulted by a rainstorm of sweat; gross and strangely rock 'n' roll at the same time! It's a cherished memory, albeit, a messy one. It was the only time that I wished that I had an umbrella at an indoor rock concert!
    God bless Pete Way! Thanks for the music and the memories.
    For those that have never listened to the song, "Anyday," from UFO's 1980 "No Place to Run" album, check it out. I think this is one of the most unique bass parts ever put to record. It will give you an appreciation for Pete's talent.

    So martin birch died few days ago then peter green and now he died God this year is messed up. It sucks that we are losing so much artists.
    Anyways hope we are all staying safe and we should celebrate his life . Yes its sad but lets not cry about it. Hes in a better place now and we will definitely join him one day. Good people dont die they just go on to a better place! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
    Also no one should dislike this video because that would be just disrespectful. I have no idea why people dislike these kind of videos. I don't know pete. There might be some toxic people on this channel. Who knows.

    I was fortunate enough to meet Pete on 3 occasions and drink a beer or 3 with him. He was good company. You mention the Thunderbird bass too which is an iconic image of UFO. My first meeting with Pete was late 1979 at a gig in Koln. About 25 people showed up. We just walked back stage and into the dressing room. I had the nerve to ask Pete if I could have a go on the Thunderbird. To my delight he said yes. I have to say he did look nervous as I strapped it on, but what a memory. Hard to believe that 3 of those guys we met that night have now gone. RIP Pete,Paul,and Paul.

    My introduction to UFO came in a movie starring a young Emilio Estevez. He played a troubled youth and in one scene he locks himself in his bedroom and I think he puts on headphones and the song playing is Electric Phase/Love to love. Thanks Pete for all the great music, rest in peace and cheers!

    Pete Way is special to me as he lived in Columbus, Ohio for a time. Pete recorded his live solo record down the road from me in Cleveland. He also recorded the Waysted comeback album in Cleveland, "Back From The Dead." I think that is the best Waysted album.
    Legend has it that Pete spent quality time with Eric Moore of The Godz, who died last year, and Michael Hannon of American Dog/Salty Dog forming a Columbus singing bass player club.
    I just wanted another Waysted album.... R.I.P. Pete Way.
