      Hey, Chelsea! Glad you found me, too! Hopefully your family's garage isn't as messy as mine. :) You should definitely redo furniture. It's fun, good for the environment, and economical. And starting at 18, by the time you're my age (41), you'll be a pro! :)

    (P.S. It took me about a solid WEEK to get this garage cleaned out and to get everything sorted--down to the final screws!) As far as costs, the only thing I spent money on was additional storage containers for the shelves. They were about $6.00 each on sale for 4th of July. I'm still not done with the garage makeover and clean-up. I've got more garage lights in install....freshening up the painted floor...etc. I am badly in need of a shed to get the bikes and gardening tools out of the garage, too. I am going to start planning to build a shed. I've never tackled such a project, so please wish me luck!!! :)

    Where to start! I love many things about you and your videos. You're real, you show the struggle and show perfect is not the goal. You tackled this project alone as you do most and while overwhelmed at times you powered through. I'm divorced so I do mine alone. I get overwhelmed then frustrated. This video helped me so much to be motivated to keep going. Thank you. You're an amazing woman and encourage so many of us to just try!

    • @ThriftDiving
      @ThriftDiving  5 лет назад +1

      Oh Cassie, you made me happy this morning with such kind and warm-hearted words! Yes, this isnt about perfection because I can never make things perfect, and neither can my readers. I think the fear of getting started for most people is the fear of the work it will require, along with the fear that it wont look as good as something on Pinterest. That's not the goal. The goal is about creating a comfortable, cozy, and affordable home! If you walk into a space and feel happy and warm inside, then you're home is perfect, for YOU! I showed my garage makeover "AFTER" pics to a friend and he told me that I could do better, that it was just "average." I was insulted at first. Then I realized that his opinion means nothing. He hasn't seen the struggle, he didn't see the before, and he doesn't know the evolution this garage has taken. I am proud of what it looks like now, and I look forward to keep seeing it evolve and improve.
      I say all that to say that perfect isn't attainable for me and most of us, and we should never let that prevent us from moving forward. Thank you. Cassie!!!

    I needed this. Thank you so much. Every other example I find for motivation is one of two types of mess...the “honey your ‘messy’ garage is the ‘neat’ garage I’m striving to achieve...” or the “yeahhh the city might need to come tear that structure down...” mess. Your video is the first one I’ve seen that is perfectly in the middle. Just normal day to day “sometimes the only option is to stand at my kitchen/garage door and set curtain rods/paper-clay dinosaur heads/donation bags etc. out just far enough that the door will shut again so I can reach the washing machine in between homework, dinner and bath time...”
    This is how we stay sane. Knowing we’re not alone. Thank you a million times. One year later. 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

    • @ThriftDiving
      @ThriftDiving  5 лет назад +5

      And you know what--I actually showed my "AFTER" picture to a friend and he had the nerve to tell me my garage looked "average." That really bothered me because after spending so much time taking it from cluttered to organized, that was hurtful. That's why I had to mention that it doesn't have to look perfect because people always think that when you're done with something, it needs to look cover-perfect. And that's not true. You work with the space you've got. In my case, I still have messy bikes hanging up and garden equipment that's hogging the whole center space. But I can't do anything about that. You might have challenges as well that prevents it from looking "cover-perfect" or "Pinterest-perfect." But let's not worry about that. Let's do what we can and feel good about the job we just did! :) Good luck with your garage! It will look imperfectly perfect. :)

I would have to dig very deep to imagine myself working that hard to accomplish what you did in a short amount of time. You do work too hard, but oh my, look at the reward. You must be walking out there all the time just to admire it. I would. I moved nearly 2 years ago and still have boxes in my garage to unpack, a lot of boxes, stacked on one side. This is something I need to do myself so I think this could be a good way for me to get back into doing DIY projects. A fresh start. May I make a suggestion? One of my older clients implemented a system called 5S. Basically you would outline and label where things belong so it makes it easier to put things back. If it was something on the wall, floor, shelf, ect it didn't matter. It was outlined and labeled. Thank you for the awesome content. This has been a very therapeutic and rejuvenating experience for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    I think this is dope. I'm really glad you painted the shelves cuz they look really nice. It is a big transformation and a good motivation for people who are trying to clean. Don't listen to your husband. There's a reason you're the RUclipsr just saying haha. Thanks for sharing can't wait for the video where you build your garden shed 😉😉

      It feels AH-MAZING out there in the garage now! I am promising to keep this clean, for sure. The challenge is to slow down at the end of a project and "close it out" properly by putting all the tools away BEFORE I sit down to edit the video for it!

    I'm in the process of doing the same thing. It's an ongoing process. I WISH I had space to put a small shed for yard/gardening stuff! I am more active in the yard and garage with various projects in the summer and it gets so cluttered as much as I try to keep everything neat. My first wood project ever was spray can and quart paint/stain storage. It makes me happy to see them all lined up and neat. Motivates me when the rest of the space is a bit messy.

    Great job Serena! I actually have a two-car garage that is smack full. My poor wife and children have a hard time taking their bikes in and out and walking without tripping. It is a safety hazard for sure. You have inspired me to clean up without having to build a detached two or three car garage! I do want a detached garage though and was secretly hoping my wife would give me the green light to build one due to the clutter! Oh well. Thank you for your inspiration Serena! Job well done.

    Omgosh that red chair!!! 😍😍😍😍 Being able to make room for that project!! The paint itself made the light SO much better. You are definitely a super woman. Your husband aka Debbie Downer? Not so much. 😘😁 ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

    • @ThriftDiving
      @ThriftDiving  5 лет назад

      Yes, I am going to redo that chair soon! I love the red velvet, but the cushions inside need to be replaced. It's icky. Needs a good steaming! One of my various thrift store finds that I have held on to for eons. As for hubby, he's a Debbie Downer but he's right--I worked WAY too hard on this. If I had just cleaned up as I went, it wouldn't have ever gotten to this. LOL. He is right. I am vowing to start fresh, beginning now. No more hoarding, no more randomly sitting things down, and always cleaning up after projects!

      @@ThriftDiving oh pooh pooh on the naysayers! Your way, our way, is much more exciting and adventuresome AND fun! I ALSO have doubles and triples of many tools. AND toe color... 😁. We can't waist time cleaning or hunting for something when inspiration strikes! We gotta go go go! Do you know how many quick trips to Target I've make over the years to buy something i already owned? Not to mention packs of socks and or princess undies because I didn't get to the laundry? I'd rather my daughter knows how to safely use a power tool, fix something broken, and haggle a good deal with our girl at the thrift store! Then slap some paint on it! She won't remember that the laundry wasn't done. She will remember the fun projects and skills. AND the times I let her order from UberEats all by herself. hmmm... I do wonder if she'll ever wonder why she had 70 pair of socks and panties?🤣 naaaaaa

      Okay, I showed you mine...now you have to show me yours, Mike! Summer is the best time to tackle it because of the long daylight hours. You get more time to sort through things in the driveway. This clean-out was exhausting. At the end of each day, my feet ached so bad. Be prepared! And don't be afraid to give things away. I still need to get rid of some tools. Four nailers is insane (sitting on my shelf)! LOL. (I'm serious, email me pictures of your garage BEFORE and AFTER to serena@thriftdiving.com. I really want to see!).

I'm in need of a nailer hint, hint and we are NOT that far from each other. 😁👍😎. Just joking. Hope all is well, and Dirty Jersey out again!!!

I let things build up and build up and then I get into this frantic mode where I have to clean it all up at once. Whereas, if I had just cleaned up as I went along, it never would have come to this point. :) SOOO...as you can see, it's been a very insightful week! LOL Thanks, Jackie!!
