- My garage was a cluttered, hot mess! I wouldn't call this a "garage makeover" per se...more like a total garage clean-out and organizational challenge, Phase 1. In this video, I share with you the first phase of its massive clean-out and organization efforts! I teamed up with Home Depot, as well, to spotlight some of my favorite tools as part of The Home Depot PROspective tool review program. A big thanks to them for sponsoring this video! Lol, don’t be embarrassed to show your house! Has long as you have made memories there and it feels like home to you it’s fine😊💕 But take your time no need to rush I’ll just be happy that you are showing your home to house whenever you decide to!😊😂
(P.S. It took me about a solid WEEK to get this garage cleaned out and to get everything sorted--down to the final screws!) As far as costs, the only thing I spent money on was additional storage containers for the shelves. They were about $6.00 each on sale for 4th of July. I'm still not done with the garage makeover and clean-up. I've got more garage lights in install....freshening up the painted floor...etc. I am badly in need of a shed to get the bikes and gardening tools out of the garage, too. I am going to start planning to build a shed. I've never tackled such a project, so please wish me luck!!! :)

@@brittanyminkin4673 Thank you! I hope so, too. It makes me sooooo relieved and happy when I go out there in the garage now to get something. I no longer have to hunt for it. I know EXACTLY where I put it. The key will be to put things BACK in their place. HA! ;)
You'll have no problem with the shed. It'll probably be better than anything you can buy.

Hey, Chelsea! Glad you found me, too! Hopefully your family's garage isn't as messy as mine. :) You should definitely redo furniture. It's fun, good for the environment, and economical. And starting at 18, by the time you're my age (41), you'll be a pro! :)
Where to start! I love many things about you and your videos. You're real, you show the struggle and show perfect is not the goal. You tackled this project alone as you do most and while overwhelmed at times you powered through. I'm divorced so I do mine alone. I get overwhelmed then frustrated. This video helped me so much to be motivated to keep going. Thank you. You're an amazing woman and encourage so many of us to just try!
Oh Cassie, you made me happy this morning with such kind and warm-hearted words! Yes, this isnt about perfection because I can never make things perfect, and neither can my readers. I think the fear of getting started for most people is the fear of the work it will require, along with the fear that it wont look as good as something on Pinterest. That's not the goal. The goal is about creating a comfortable, cozy, and affordable home! If you walk into a space and feel happy and warm inside, then you're home is perfect, for YOU! I showed my garage makeover "AFTER" pics to a friend and he told me that I could do better, that it was just "average." I was insulted at first. Then I realized that his opinion means nothing. He hasn't seen the struggle, he didn't see the before, and he doesn't know the evolution this garage has taken. I am proud of what it looks like now, and I look forward to keep seeing it evolve and improve.
I say all that to say that perfect isn't attainable for me and most of us, and we should never let that prevent us from moving forward. Thank you. Cassie!!!

Serena, i used to have a home organizing business and helped many people with their homes and garages. Seeing the transformation in your garage was amazing! Considering all the supplies, tools and garden equipment you had to deal with, i think you did a wonderful job. And all the cleaning and painting you did, truly made the garage look so much better! I wish I’d been there to help you! Thank you for being such a wonderful inspiration with all of your makeovers!

That is true!! He didn't see the "point of it" he said. But it needed to be done. Next, I'm going to fill all those nail holes that the previous homeowner left behind!
@colleenallmyfriends Thankfully, they were there when we moved in!! Someone also built shelving similar to this down in the utility room in the basement. I'm thankful they did! I'll try to take some detailed pictures of it for upcoming blog posts so you can study how they were put together and maybe you can recreate it! I needed this. Thank you so much. Every other example I find for motivation is one of two types of mess...the “honey your ‘messy’ garage is the ‘neat’ garage I’m striving to achieve...” or the “yeahhh the city might need to come tear that structure down...” mess. Your video is the first one I’ve seen that is perfectly in the middle. Just normal day to day “sometimes the only option is to stand at my kitchen/garage door and set curtain rods/paper-clay dinosaur heads/donation bags etc. out just far enough that the door will shut again so I can reach the washing machine in between homework, dinner and bath time...”

And you know what--I actually showed my "AFTER" picture to a friend and he had the nerve to tell me my garage looked "average." That really bothered me because after spending so much time taking it from cluttered to organized, that was hurtful. That's why I had to mention that it doesn't have to look perfect because people always think that when you're done with something, it needs to look cover-perfect. And that's not true. You work with the space you've got. In my case, I still have messy bikes hanging up and garden equipment that's hogging the whole center space. But I can't do anything about that. You might have challenges as well that prevents it from looking "cover-perfect" or "Pinterest-perfect." But let's not worry about that. Let's do what we can and feel good about the job we just did! :) Good luck with your garage! It will look imperfectly perfect. :)

Great job! This space looks so much better, good for you for sticking with it and keep going! I've only been in my home a little over a year, and I think the best advise I received was "Park your car in your garage and you'll never need to worry about clutter!" I think that's the secret to keeping a tidy garage! Although my garage is tidy, my craft room-- not so much! Thanks for the inspiration ❤

Haha, I got side tracked with Bathroom Week, but there are more videos coming! I am actually planning to build a bathroom vanity for my half bathroom. I couldn't do it before because there was no space to build. But yes, more coming!

Ok I’ve watched a few of these garage clean outs and yours is by far the best in terms of organizing and use of space 👍
I started tackling our double garage last weekend and have been overwhelmed. I was sure no one had a garage as messy as mine ... but I think ours are pretty equal and that makes my day! I feel like a normal (creative) person. Also, I like your ideas of doing one side one day and then using storage bins for that daylight time crunch. Many thanks for posting this-- it brought back my inspiration and confidence.
I started doing the same cleanout. I know how overwelling it can be. I am 2 weeks in, but it has been Hot in Texas. I love how you seem so at ease. Thank you for doing what you do.

I know this feeling so well I have always been a hard worker not smarter. I did learn on the way to keep everything in order and organized. It took me 2 months to get my garage in order the first time.

Oooh, yes, there is such a thing as too many tools when you don't have enough space to house them all! LOL. The shed--I am super excited about it! The hard part will be trying to lug all the materials I'll need home in my minivan. I sooooo need a pick-up truck...

Now that I've closed my jaw and resumed breathing...this is nothing short of amazing. I would have to dig very deep to imagine myself working that hard to accomplish what you did in a short amount of time. You do work too hard, but oh my, look at the reward. You must be walking out there all the time just to admire it. I would. I moved nearly 2 years ago and still have boxes in my garage to unpack, a lot of boxes, stacked on one side. After 2 years, do I even need what is in them? I'll never know until I get started. Thanks for the big nudge to get it done.
Awww, thanks, Pat! That same thing happened to us when we moved in! 1 year of boxes in the garage, though. I think you may have a point--do you really need what's in them now? Lol. Time to go look and find out! Maybe open 1 box per weekday, and 1 box per weekend until they're all cleared out!

Serena, I have a platform & it is a must-have when painting trim, hanging curtains or other projects around the house. And, we're adding more tools to our Ryobi products. Awesome job! My hubby mentioned that he needs to redo the garage...I will help him this time around.

I just got into my first apartment and I wish I had those tools for when I have a home one day ! All your hard work has inspired me to to finish and restore a small end table that belonged to my grandma. Thank you soooo much, if you can do it, so can I .
Great job Serena! I actually have a two-car garage that is smack full. My poor wife and children have a hard time taking their bikes in and out and walking without tripping. It is a safety hazard for sure. You have inspired me to clean up without having to build a detached two or three car garage! I do want a detached garage though and was secretly hoping my wife would give me the green light to build one due to the clutter! Oh well. Thank you for your inspiration Serena! Job well done.
