I love _Body Double,_ which didn't make money in theaters. I also like _Working Girl,_ which was very successful and _Shining Through_ was good. I don't remember _Bonfire of the Vanities._

Melanie Griffith really had something in the '80s. She was erotic and sexual in a way that European actresses sometimes are and American actresses almost always are not. And she could act. Body Double, Fear City, Something Wild, Stormy Monday, and her big shot at respectability, Working Girl. A pretty good run, there.

These questions are really awkward and condescending. The interviewer is clearly a biased

  • @bradleym7319
    @bradleym7319 3 года назад +18

Bonnie is very narrow minded and judgemental when it comes to interviewing actresses in risqué roles. She seems to ask demeaning questions also (her voice, can she change it, did her mother essentially approve the role of an adult actress).
Melanie stood her ground and was polite but was low key abrupt in her answers understandably.

You're talking about a woman who was in her 60's in the 80's, she grew up before women's lib and reflects the sensibilities of a lot of women of that generation. She reminds me of my Grandmother.

I don't think Griffiths ever truly realised her potential. Apart from Night Moves, Something Wild, Working Girl, and Another Day in Paradise, she hasn't really shined.
Also, Hollywood is notoriously unkind to women who don't age the the way producers would prefer (and although Griffiths was 26 when she made Body Double she looked 10 years older, even then).
She's very defensive about her voice here, but the interviewer's fairly obviously right: of course voice is key to acting, and therefore getting parts.

    Well, that's just it.
The interviewer is an extreme feminist !
Feminist don't do anything to improve the image of a women.
They judge women for having natural female characteristics by making them feel insecure. It's a manipulative way for them to believe that they are right, when they're completely wrong .
Imagine Melanie Griffith in Basic Instinct
Pacific Heights was an interesting choice.
Few films have that mystique .
    Body Double is among them.
Perhaps Mrs Griffith is considered limited because of her unique voice. At times it can be sultry

    • @sahej6939

I love Melanie. Sorry not sorry. Body Double is a really bad movie. I was shocked. I kept seeing actors talk abt how great it was. MG comes in in the last 1/4 of the film and doesnt do much. The movie is really abt this main guy, who I have never seen before or since in anything. This movie was bad and not engaging at all, especially the Lead guy. Outdated. LOL.
