As a previous metal drummer when he said, "if you wanna learn how to play pretty much anything, learn how to play metal," I had no choice but to say amen
When you started riffing to the song on the piano, I said "this man deserves a subscribe for that." That was awesome. What an ear, and great grasp of theory.
Oh man Bring me the horizon is a rabbit hole you would really enjoy falling into. Check out "Obey" - it just came out. I would seriously watch an entire series of yours reacting to like 30 more BMTH songs!
@@MusicShed I'll be looking for it (if it's not out already) Don't underestimate their lyrics as a musical factor, though! Oli's lyricism is absolutely masterful, especially on the singles they've been dropping through this last year.
Mick Gordon (DOOM, DOOM ETERNAL Soundtracks) was also one of the producers on this song. If you've played either of those games, you may notice his touches. The build up to the breakdown is the most obvious touch point imo.
Loved this reaction. You actually on the spot played the piano that fitted well together and being able to hear the notes that was being played, now that's skillful.
I actually hadn’t watched this reaction till just now! I freaking LOVE THAT SONG DUDE. Howie and Danny, my partners in crime post-produced the heck outta it!
A few cool notes about this The music video was co-produced with Ollie Sykes himself, Jordan Fish, and legendary metal/industrial/hard rock composer and musician Mick Gordon, best known for his work on video game soundtracks for DOOM 2016/DOOM Eternal and Killer Instinct. The name of the song Parasite Eve is inspired by the Japanese sci-fi horror series of same name, originally a novel by Hideaki Sena and later turned into a video game series by Squaresoft for the Playstation. This is not the first video game inspired named music that BMTH has released either. Shadow Moses is a title directly taken from Metal Gear Solid's main setting Shadow Moses Island. In addition their song Ludens on the same album was featured in the soundtrack of the video game Death Stranding. The album itself is also video game inspired. Survival Horror is a genre pioneered in video games. The popular horror video game franchise Resident Evil first coined the term. Despite the overarching theme of the album, vocalist Ollie Sykes said he wanted each EP to sound "totally different with their own sound and mood." Many people incorrectly assume that the song was inspired by the Coronavirus pandemic but Ollie has since gone on to confirm that the song's subject matter, the Coronavirus, and the timing of the George Floyd/Black Lives Matter protests in America and around the world were really just a very creepy coincidence. In fact it was such a creepy coincidence he initially had second thoughts about even releasing it. He eventually decided to do it anyways. In an interview with NME he put it as such: ""It was really weird, we'd heard about the pandemic in China, but then the similarities between what we were writing about started to become closer to reality. Every time there was a news story about it, we'd turn to each other and say 'Parasite Eve', not realizing the magnitude of it all. We shelved the song for a bit because it felt bit too close to the bone. After sitting on it for a while, we realized that this was a reason to release it now more than ever. In our music we've always wanted to escape, but there's been too much escapism and ignoring the problems in the world. It's not what the world needs. The world needs more and needs to think about it and remember. You can't just brush over it and expect life to go back to normal, because it fucking ain't. In so many ways, we need to change. That's what rock music is about - addressing the dark side and processing it."
The next BMTH song you should check out is Ludens. It came out 8 months or so before this and is stylistically similar to this sound. And btw, they do mix a majority of their music themselves.
I keep coming back to this reaction because the addition of your piano during the bridge is inspiring. Never stop playing along to the music! It's what makes your reactions stand apart from others! Thank you!
I have watched a ton of Bring Me The Horizon reaction videos and this is absolutely one of the, if not the, best reaction ever. Your dissection of certain parts and the fun facts that pop up through the video are genius. Subscribed.
First time on the channel, didn’t understand the piano at the start but as i kept watching I understood your insane musical knowledge and loved the piano breakdown at the end
Hmm, nobody seems to mention the as you called it "quir" is actually a sample of a Bulgarian folklore song. I'm so proud they sampled it but also it's really atmospheric and matches perfectly 😳
They did an entire series of 1-4 minute videos showing the production of this song and the music video. The keyboardist Jordan Fish also did all the mixing and production. They had to make these songs at Oli Sykes house due to Coronavirus and the music video was filmed socially distanced and with the drummer in America so they had to coordinate with LA. I would seriously recommend watching the videos because they're fantastic! This was an awesome video, great style and love the trivia that pops up! 😁
you should check out Ludens by the same band. It was made over the course of like 7 days, from hotel rooms while they were on tour because Kojima offered them the chance to put a track in the video game Death Stranding, but they only had like 8 days to get it to the company for it to be included. Literally did the entire writing, recording, mixing process from various hotel rooms.

I'm a brazilian fan of the band and this review is absolutely brilliant, for real. The information on the screen is very important, just as your speeches about the construction of music are also, you should have more subscribers than that!!.
Just found this channel tonight and I absolutely LOVE the piano breakdowns you do when you analyze the music you review. Always get sucked in when you go off
love them, they got to work with Mick Gordon who is just the master at music production. He made the score for the doom games and sent BMTH a whole library of sounds for the song. Such an inspiring way to create an enviornment in music.

"Big production over here" Not gonna lie, the mv looks great but after watched the bts, they kinda run it on limited budget for this mv since they produce it on these pandemic days so they got to experiments some DIY's for the lens and stuff. So yeah 👏
I love your approach to music. I play piano (tho not nearly as well as you haha) and I've tried teaching myself guitar a few times and I kept giving up. You're making me wanna try again - keep it up!
