I heard rumors that airline sometimes cancel flights and rebook them on a different flight for the day if not enough seats were sold on a flight and another available flight exists. You got lucky here as this can be a problem if you had a connecting flight or if they give you an aisle or middle seat instead of the window seat you had on the previous flight.
