Song of my life
How fabulous ❤❤
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it! Kind regards, Bill Daugherty
You are a national treasure, Bill Dautherty. Thank you.
Claude ... you are very kind. Thank you! And it’s Daugherty 😊
I love the voice of Mr. Bill Daugherty. This songs means so much to me ...
J P - Thank you so very much for your kind words. I, too, love this song. Happy Holidays! Bill
Discovering this singer is one of the nicest things that has come along for me in a good while. The very best have that supreme gift to make it all seem so infinitely easy.
Yet again, Rupert, thank you for listening and for commenting so generously. It means a lot. The two solo CD's that I recorded (as well as some of the cast recordings from shows I wrote) I make available on Ebay if you're someone who still plays compact discs. "Souvenirs" and "Look To The Rainbow" were my two solo CD's. "When The Lights Go On Again", "Brother, Can You Spare A Dime?" and "On The Record" were the cast recordings. Thank you again, so much, for your interest. Kind regards, Bill.
Another winner Bill!! Im so happy that i just found you yesterday! As Judy would say Darling you're marvelous!!!
Yet again, thanks so much Russell. It's a great song and I'm happy I was the first guy to record it! ;)
This is so beautiful. The photographs in the singing. I wish I had a martini in my hand and a gorgeous guy sitting with me
Thanks so much for the kind words, Geo! I don't drink but I would sure welcome the latter! :) best, Bill Daugherty
@@retroland6007 Wow, I didn’t expect a reply! Do you do the cabaret circuit? Like in San Francisco we have Feinstein’s where cabaret singers come into town and sing. Just curious. I think you’re great. And I loved loved the video
@@MegaWoodford Thanks again for the ebullience. I really do appreciate it. I'm not skilled at putting videos together but I enjoy it and it's a way to showcase the tracks I have from my albums that I want to share. And as far as "the cabaret circuit" - there hasn't been one of those since the early 70's. Sadly. Even when I was doing that sort of thing back in the 80's and 90's there were only so many venues and it paid so pitifully bad that most of us couldn't afford to do it very often. I went on to doing concerts and theater almost exclusively. But as far as performing - not so much anymore. I left NYC a few years back and live in upstate NY. I'm on the board of a local theater company, direct and do some shows with them and I teach musical theater at a couple of universities (much like I did when I was with NYU for 20 years). I do the Broadway by the Year and Broadway Unplugged series in NYC at Town Hall whenever they have them. And I was a Feinstein's 54 Below a couple of times before Covid hit. But it's a schlep to get down to the city and, again, I just about break even to do those gigs. But I had a good run when I was in the midst of it all and enjoyed myself the entire time I was in the limelight. Now just appreciating the warm afterglow :) xoxo
@@retroland6007 who's that god at 1:25?
I've always hoped for a male rendition of this song. Thank you! This was beautifully sung.
Ceven. So kind of you to comment. I’m glad you liked what I did. I got Francesca‘s permission to record it. She was happy with my interpretation. Bless you for thoughtfulness. XOXO Bill
Such a beautiful song with a perfect performer
Thanks a lot .
I love this song and I can't believe that I've never heard it before. All of these pictures go so well with the music but there is one picture that is absolutely haunting. There is no more beautiful man, I believe, then Tony Curtis. His eyes are absolutely hypnotic.
I have to agree with you Barbara on all points.. I too hadn't heard this before..
Toney Curtis I thought was a 'doll' as my mom would say way back when..
These guys are stunning!!
The photo selection was made by someone that REALLY KNOWS, just shy of GEORGER NADER AND TROY DONAHUE. The melody, arrangement and back up to the voice is perfect! AAAA ++++
Frederick... I'll concede with Troy.. George, for me... not so much. But Rock apparently felt differently! Promise that the next time I do another line-up of Hollywood hunks in a video I'll include Mr. Donahue just for you! (I wrote to him on occasion and he signed a few photos for my collection. He was dreamy alright!) xoxo Bill Daugherty
Bill, Beautiful song and sung with such feeling!!! Yes, I have believed the lies of handsome men in my life!!! Thank you for sharing.
I think we all have. "a lie is only a lie if you believe it. Some people will believe anything, as long as it's convenient."
You and me both, my friend! xoxxo
Absolutely love your music and videos. Thank you.
You are so kind to follow my work, sms... I really appreciate it. I have always loved singing good songs and this one is one of the best! Thanks again! Best, Bill
Watching this and I just can't stop thinking about my boyfriend. Men are beautiful

I agree. ❤️
Oh they certainly are.
Lovely video and song ❤.
Really classic sounding voice, goes so well with the song.
Totes agree
Very nicely done.
Thank you Ted. Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for taking the time to comment. Bill
I'd love a list of all the actors. But, what an absolutely beautiful voice Bill has. Thank you, RUclips algorithm. Thank you Bill. Best wishes from England 🇬🇧👏
R W... you are very kind to have taken the time to comment. So glad you enjoyed my singing. I love what I do. Best to you from New York xoxo Bill
I've never heard this song before, but this gentlemen sang it beautifully.. I wish the names accompanied the pics.. didn't recognise them all... but thanks #retroland
Thank you for this. Such a nice chilled out moment in a busy day.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely arrangement sweetly sung.
Oscar... so very kind of you to comment so generously. I appreciate your sentiments and the truth is I wouldn't know how to go about representing the love between a man and a woman because it's not been my experience. I've never loved a woman in that way. So... sending my best regards and sincere thanks. Bill
Thank you. A beautiful song, beautifully arranged, recorded and sung. Guy Madison was incredibly handsome with a sex appeal that would still work today, I think he was just a little too pretty and lightweight for the times in which he lived. Most of these men bloomed for a short period, a few, like Cary Grant, looked terrific in every decade. They didn’t pursue youth and embraced maturity, which is a good thing, but lived in an age when everyone smoked like chimneys and drank cocktails, one sip of which could flatten a house, activities which could age you dramatically. And so many did not live to be very old. It’s alarming how many handsome mid-century actors were felled in early middle age by heart attacks, strokes and aneurysms that modern medicine saves us from. Their good fortune was to live in the age of the studios that churned out endless movies, mostly with good directors, acceptable and sometimes brilliant plots, sharp dialogue and smart, well tailoring. We can all dream!
Tom... I have scrapbooks full of photos and clippings and movie posters and signed photos of Guy Madison. I've always thought he was about the most beautiful man to ever grace the silver screen - but he could barely act his way out of a wet paper bag. But... who the hell cares?? LOL xoxo Bill Daugherty
Love this song. Beautiful version.
John... many thanks. Truly. I too love this song. Glad you enjoyed it. xoxo Bill
In love with this song. So soo true!
That has been my experience, Jay. I find it nearly autobiographical. Glad you liked it! xoxo Bill
Beautiful song! Interesting that some of the guys we generally think of as fairly macho looked fairly feminine (yet still gorgeous) in some of these pics. Thanks for this.
My pleasure, David. Bill
Superbo !!
Wow Love the voice, & yes, words so fitting..
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the compliment!
Wow, this is amazing. Great voice and visuals!
Bless you, George! So pleased you enjoyed my work! xoxo Bill
Thanks for posting. Song is great and seeing those pics was awesome.
Just beautiful, Bill. ❤
You are so kind! Thank you sweet man! xoxox Billy
Beautifully sung.
Donald... thanks a lot! My friend wrote the song and it's easily my favorite of all that Francesca has penned. Glad you enjoyed it! Bill
How have I never heard this song before?! I’m glad yours was the first version I’ve listened to.
Thanks love! It's a great song. Should be a standard. Francesca has written a lot of great songs. My dear friend, singer Margaret Whiting, did a beautiful version of "The Lies Of Handsome Men" a few years back. Hers was the first I'd heard. Glad you like it! :)
Whos the sang this cover?
@@able3580 Several people have recorded the song, perhaps the most famous of which was Margaret Whiting. Francesca asked me to record it on my second album. I sang her song "Fireflies" on my first.
Cleo Laine does a great job too.
It's awesome!
What a pleasant surprise! Terrific song, wonderful performance and awesome video ~
Thanks so much! I appreciate the compliment, Papa Al! Bill
Superb voice !
And great song !
It means a lot that you took the time to comment! Many thanks!!
Bill I think you've found your calling and its wonderful you can now share it on line. Who would have ever thought what this friendly neighborhood 8 year old would become. I am proud for you.
Great images, merci beaucoup from Paris France. Take care !
Beautifully done.
So kind of you, Robert! Thanks a lot. Bill
Such phrasing!
Beautiful all 🤟🏻
Very lovely, Bill!
Bless you, Mark!
Youth is really a blessing. And It gives beauty a lift. On the other hand, all of them, when got old, became unrecognizable. What a Shame!
Though some can remain handsome right into old age. Cary Grant was handsome his entire life.
Beautifully melancholic
Thank you for your kind words
@@retroland6007 ...Your voice is very similar to Chet Baker. He's been one of my favorites for old standards since I was in college.
I'd never heard The Lies of Handsome Men. I'm glad I heard your version first. Hearing it sung by you made me believe in fairy tales again🧚♀️
@@kaimanat8553 Again, thank you for being so appreciative of my work. Means a lot. And I'll take Chet Baker, although he really never considered himself a singer. His voice is very simple. No vibrato. No frills. But I am a fan nonetheless. Best to you! Bill
Que maravilla, que buen gusto
Lovely job!
Glad you like it, MRE! xoxo

Have to say, I dearly appreciate {3:35}. had quite the 'closeted' crush on that lad - he was older than I.
smooth and elegant. Thank you.
So pleased you liked it, Gaeill! xoxo Bill
What a nice reply. You must have some stories from those days. But then, " A gentleman never tells"...

Thanks Darryl. I'll be up and running again with more as soon as I get past Dad's memorial in November.
I’m sure that anyone looking into Paul Newman’s hypnotic blue eyes would believe that anything was possible.
Amen, David!!! Was he ever more beautiful than in the film, "The Long, Hot Summer"? Jesus God! I met him once about 40 years ago. He was already silver-haired and his complexion was ruddy but those eyes! He was a gracious and decent man. Even if he couldn't act we'd have all followed him over a cliff, right? :) xoxo Bill Daugherty
Fabulous! Thank you.
Thank you!!! xoxo Bill Daugherty
Sal Mineo...still in love after all these years..
I'm a little surprised at myself: I knew the names of more of those men in the photos than I thought.
So few comments when the singing is absolutely wonderful.
Ahh.. but that makes the comments that ARE made all the more meaningful, my friend. Thank you for your kind words!
Montgomery Clift @2:08..2:18..3:44...I forgot how handsome he was...absolutely gorgeous!!!
That just made my day start with a smile, thanks
certainly some very handsome men in that video.
What a handsome men
Well that was fun. I recognized about 90% of the faces - a trip down memory lane for an older fart!
Hahahahaha
Smile when you say that.
Seventy one in a few days.
LOVELY RENDITION!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
First time I heard this was by Margaret Whiting. Very much the same arrangement, as it was meant to be done.
Well done!
Darryl. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Margaret was a dear friend of mine for over 30 years. We met when I was a little boy and I went to see her perform at a local nightclub. My father was accompanying her at the piano. I stayed for both shows and she became my penpal. After college when I moved to New York City we found each other and she became my mentor and one of my favorite friends. She recorded a couple of tracks for my albums and wrote the liner notes for the first of them. We were both friends and fans of Francesca Blumenthal - who wrote the song. If our approaches sound similar it’s because Francesca asks performers to execute her songs in the way in which she hears them. She gave her blessing to me to be the first gentleman to record this song. So glad you enjoyed it.
@@billybrooklyn Cool to see you in the replies. Found this because I know the Blossom Dearie version. Great rendition

I only believed the lies of one of them, but after he took me for a ride I left him stranded. Never regretted doing so.
Thank you for this. Best photo I've ever seen of Paul Newman. Glad to see, in my opinion, the most beautiful man on film, Guy Madison. Song is a keeper and you sing it like someone who's been there, cheers.
I have, Michael... I have. Bless you! xoxo Bill
Gorgeous song.
Sad that nobody's ever heard it.
Stuart. It is a beautiful song. People in certain circles have known and loved this song for 20 years. Primarily New York audiences. The first time I heard it was when my dear friend, singer Margaret Whiting, recorded it. I believe I am the first male to record it with the blessing of the composer. Thanks for the comment! Bill

Love this song and the pix, but I can't choose, kinda leaning towards Gregory Peck cuz of that voice and oh yes the Face. But had a huge crush on Wally Cleaver.
You and me both.
Oh, Wally.
You can give me the business anytime.
The song The Lies of Handsome Men was written by Francesca Blumenthal and was first released by Margaret Whiting in 1990.
Ric... Francesca is a friend of mine and asked me if I might record the song one day. When I presented it to her she 'kvelled'. And Margaret and I met when I was 11 and she became my penpal over the years and eventually, once I moved to NYC, she was my "Auntie Mame". She introduced me to cafe society and helped me immeasurably in my early career. She recorded a couple of duets with me for my albums and wrote the liner notes for my first, "Look To The Rainbow". I was at the bachelor party for her husband, Jack Wrangler, and we had many a wonderful visit over the years at her apartment off Central Park. I miss her to this day. xoxo
Believe me, no one is harmed by the lies of handsome men

The homage to Hollywood male beauties is very moving. I think it would be a nice idea to include their names in the CC channels because, for the life of me, I could not recognize quite a few :-)
Thanks. Glad you liked it. I just put it together to promote my recording but I included a few obscure ones for the die-hard Hollywood buff. I thought of giving them names but my friends and I like to play the game of "who is it" without cheating. So I figured I'd challenge anyone out there that cares about these sorts of things. Give me a minutes/seconds of any of them and I'll happily divulge ;)

A really beautiful performance Bill. Francesca Blumenthal is a dear dear friend of mine. She is not too well at the moment but I know she would love your version of her song. Charlie x (Charlie McGillivray-Davidson Edinburgh Scotland)
Thank you for the kind words Charlie. And I'm so sorry that Francesca isn't doing well. Please give her my love. We've been friends for nearly over 30 years but we haven't been in touch since I left the city. She was the one who sanctioned my recording of this. I wanted to be sure that she didn't mind the gender swap and she didn't! :) She got pre-approval on the track before I included it.
Thanks again, my friend! xoxo
@@retroland6007 Many thanks Bill. Francesca is confined to her apartment and has memory challenges (Dementia??). She is one of the most talented / gifted writers I have ever met and a lovely generous person. Her line "I pretend he's not pretending" ...well! Over the years, she has sent me most of her songs - the funny one's "If he was straight and I were young" to the very sentimental about Paris - just wonderful. I keep in touch with her now through her son Dan and am just about to write to him. I will pass on your love. Charlie x (Edinburgh Scotland)
Yes, the lies
Who is 1:21?
Larry "Buster" Crabbe. The original Flash Gordon and early Tarzan.
Ricky Nelson and Tony Dow. Yum…
Yes to both!😍
I would have preferred the names be displayed in the video. Many are so long time ago, younger viewers may have never heard of them
I mostly made this video to please myself and for those of us who do know who the great forgotten stars were. Anybody else who enjoys it… all the better! But it wasn’t meant to be another honor roll video of fallen stars of the past. If you scroll up to an earlier comment when somebody requested the names, I obliged and you can check it that way. Otherwise… it gives you a chance to test your own prowess without being spoonfed the answers!
