In US news and current events today, the coronavirus pandemic, the COVID-19 outbreak has had people around the world in lockdown. People in the United States and the world at large have had to quarantine and practice social distancing and self-isolation when necessary.
Some states, like Georgia, are beginning to reopen businesses, but history has shown us that lifting a lockdown too early can have dire consequences. Here's how San Francisco's early lifting of regulations during the 1918 flu, a strain of H1N1 virus also referred to as the Spanish flu, nearly doubled the death toll of the city.

@@zhaoqiu1089 The virus probably mutated so any immunities people had would not be effective against the new strand. The more people get infected the more the virus is likely to mutate. Its like if people have immunity to type A but the new strand is type B.

There are plenty of anti mask wearing doctors out there unfortunately.
I want to know if you still have that same attitude 8 months later when nothing has changed? 😂 the facts are clear. More people dying from suicide everyday. More people taking anti-depressants everyday. Ask yourself. Is a life in fear a life worth living? I’d rather be dead than live like this. And do you know what’s the best part? I’ve had covid and it wasn’t all that bad. Unless your elderly or morbidly obese you have nothing to worry about. Yet we inflict ourselves with suffering everyday because the lives of pensioners and fat people are more important to us than our own lives? If you’re fat or old or have health problems then STAY AT HOME. For a healthy man that takes care of myself I should be free to do what I want .. without the risk of killing anyone because the vulnerable people will be at home.
Ask yourself what is causing the protests? It’s the huge lack of care for mental health and well-being of people. I know people who’ve committed suicide because their business is now gone. Everything they worked hard for every day is gone. If the government helped people then we wouldn’t have any protests. But they don’t. Protests are against that so don’t blame protestors blame the government.

I’ve been in so many arguments today with people demanding to open up again. They’ve given up on social distancing they’re hanging with friends, going to the beach or the river. They think it’s a hoax and somehow democrats are behind it. They say go ahead and live in fear. They’re going to enjoy themselves. They cite Tucker Carlson and a random doctor from Fresno. I even explain San Francisco to them before this video was released and they ignored me because “that was 100 years ago.”

@tone loc
Not true, humans are generally built to remember traumatic and horrific events, to better survive. This generation has far more advantages and available information and sources. Previous Gene's not so much and they've kept repeating the same things over and over. An example is of unions, back during when people faught against unfair treatment, pay and over work, the workers saw them in good light. But thanks to their constant work to diminish them and the boomers as well not liking them and businesses constant hate for it. We're falling back to a similar era of overbooking, low pay and mistreatment. This generation sees that and knows of it.

Yeah.. there was negligence in Wuhan, but the severity of Pandemics aren't just about negligence of one country, it's about the negligence of every country affected by it. So as much as it is the fault of the Chinese government for kick-starting the pandemic, the damages extensively caused by the pandemic is on the other hand, as much the fault of the government in place in that country as it is the Chinese government's fault.

I saw in one documentary about the Spanish Flu that the reason why Americans hadn’t heard much about the 1918 pandemic (at least until COVID-19 pandemic) was that the situation was treated so poorly and so many mistakes were made, the country collectively didn’t want to remember it and chose to forget about the embarrassing, unheroic chapter in our history.

Oh great history is repeating itself
So, two things: There isn't any demonstration here of facts that the two lockdowns were at all similar. The speed of information, communication, healthcare capacity, and epidemiological insights are so far greater today, that comparing them to those in 1918 might as well be a comparison to Mars. I'm not sure comparing the "lockdown" of a horse-drawn society to one with GPS monitoring capability of its citizens is the least bit instructive.
Also, when confronting the facts that covid-19 looks ultimately likely to have a similar case mortality rate as a bad flu (and no, this doesn't mean it "isn't dangerous"), one is immediately hit with the rejoinder that "it is not the flu." Yet these same people will continually highlight the comparisons to the 1918 flu (such as this one) in justifying government action on covid-19; I trust the contradiction here is obvious.
