Thank you - this is SOOOO helpful! I've had a few hostas in my garden for decades but now that I'm retired, I'm expanding selection and propagating for sale. They've been in the ground in central NC red clay and the hostas never grew beyond quart or gallon size. I had no idea they were struggling in the heavy soil. And I've never fertilized them (shame shame). I'd like to grow some giant hostas and your tips will get me started on a good foot. I'm an urban permaculture gardener now and keep chickens so I'll be using my homemade compost made of oak+maple leaves, grass clippings, chicken manure and peat moss. I'm not trusting commercial compost with mounting evidence that herbicides like Grazon are killing entire vegetable crops and is showing up in cow or horse manure (from pastures). p.s. I LOVE the image of your head above that giant hosta - that should be on your thumbnail, lol.
I will need to watch this several times and take notes. Very informative! Lots of information I would have never considered! Thank you for sharing the wisdom gained by experience.
you do such a great job at explaining a process. Even when it's something I don't or can't grow in my 9b grow zone, I still appreciate your thorough guidance. Thanks!

Thanks for your kind words Wendy…
Slugs... I use a ¾" ring of self adhesive copper tape on the pot. It seems to keep them off. This is a gorgeous video sir. Very informative thanks
I love containers as well.
Pretty! My mom loved hostas.. 🌿
That's great!

My pleasure 😊
Thank you for all these tips!
You are welcome!
Great video! What’s the name of the mini hosta in your hand
Growing from serd?
How about Jurassic Park hostas?
Please let people know that you are in a warmer zone than myself. I’m in zone 3, I don’t think they would survive in a pot over winter.
I live in Detroit mi and I see potted hostas in my neighborhood that last through the winter
