  • I visit the Wiltshire town of Warminster. I uncover some of its famous residents, look at the Iron Age fort above the town, and look back at the past month of Westcountry Wanderings. I also read out the very best of your comments too.

Hi Paul. It is nice to know that you appreciate all the comments made by your followers, especially new and interesting facts. I like the little clip of Warminster at the end and traffic noise covered over with pleasant guitar music 🎸 ...🚗🚙🚗🚙. Bliss 😊

@@westcountrywanderings I forgot to say that you got the pronunciation perfect second time round. Ron also pronounces it well. There are only four of us now with this surname although I have seen a young Portuguese girl using the name as well

Paul, firstly thank you for all the various shout outs for my channel! This was a really interesting vlog about Warminster and wow, reflecting on the month, you have been very busy! Your quality is always so high though in terms of research, presentation and editing! That takes a lot of dedication and stamina! Your videos are TV worthy in terms of content and quality! Looking forward to watching all that you have coming up in December!

That star on a pole, on top of Battlesbury. If you go to the top of the next hill over, shown in the middle at 43:56 of your video, you'll find another, and also on the next one, which is Scratchbury Hill. Apparently you mustn't dig in that area, but you'd think that there would be something written on it to tell you that. Ancient site. Naughty.
I used to go ferreting on Battlesbury in the 70's. Didn't see any rabbit burrows in your video. Maybe I wiped them out before moving to New Zealand?
That woodland is the result of replanting, following the clear felling of the original in the 60's, hence the absence of big old trees.

      Thank you Peter.
I don't think I'd ever want to go metal detecting around there for fear of stumbling across live ordnance!
Yes, I think I do remember seeing another in the distance.
Thanks for the explainer about the woodland.
      Cheers,
      Paul

Thank you so much Michael! That's great to know. I enjoyed my visit to Warminster, despite the background noise from the Army (doing important training, I know). Glad that you enjoyed my monthly vlog. December's will be a little earlier, and different because of Christmas. Thanks again for your support, have a brilliant week, take care, Paul.
