    Tiny town here, I used to work at a police station (I ran maintenance) and we had dudes from the prison come down and help me with projects (replacing floors etc) They weren’t super happy about helping cops, but they were cool with me…ok, I’m an old lady AND I made sure they had access to smokes, a lighter and snacks. Our highway dept was using them too, and they had to work in my yard…I went right out, handed out smokes and brownies. The dudes were super polite and I got nothing bad to say about any of them. Sorry, got a little rambling there.

      Treat us like what we are. Human. My county had a lady who worked the kitchen and ran the same type of time for us.
      You ain't getting nothing special. Don't ask. But if you do what you're supposed to and don't make shit hard for her. Your life is exponentially better for you.
      But we also wouldn't let anything happen to her should someone come in on fucked up time or with an attitude thinking they are someone special.
      But in my county jail c.o.s are cops. You gotta work 2 yrs B4 going in a car
      But the people who support the jail are just county employees not cops

      @@168DiplomatThat’s not necessarily true. Alot of police use to be CO’s. Being a CO actually looks really good on your resume for Police, as long as you pass your tests you’re basically a shoe in. I mean you already passed your heavy background check multiple times over. A CO will get picked up for a police position over a normal 90% of the time.

    • @168Diplomat
      @168Diplomat 21 час назад

      @ well I was a cop and a chief of police and that’s not the way it goes around this area. Most CO won’t even get a second look for a PD position around here. Usually it is the retired cops that get picked up for a county co position of the counties have a jail. ( we operate on a regional jail system) sometimes if a county has the money they will have a holding facility and transport to regional once every 8 hours. But most of us won’t hire a co because they usually have the wrong set of skills and bad habits that we have to break and then retrain. It’s more of a hassle than what it was worth. Most of our sheriffs won’t even move someone from the detention side to the patrol side for the same reason.

I also realized that the same is true in reverse. I don't really feel like typing for two hours, so I leave it at that. But if you got pulled over by a cop trying to get work on time and get called Cop. And leave earlier isn't really an option when working a twelve hour shift.

    Yeah because people in prison make all the best decisions you know. Taking the one guy who may be able to get you shit and make your life slightly easier. Continue to call him names and piss him off so that he can take shit away from you too. That's intelligent. But then again that's why you're in there

    Being a correction officer ranks right up there with Al Bundy selling shoes to fat women at the mall for crap jobs. Spending your whole day surrounded by convicted felons is not exactly the greatest company to keep. I would say it is still better than being a police officer. At least in prison, both teams have a uniform, so you know who to watch out for. More cops die every year in the line of duty than correctional officers, so it is also safer.
    Most COs just want to do their eight hours and go home, just like any person at any job. But prison is the home for those locked up and they have 24 hours a day to figure out how to cause problems and create issue and a CO only has eight hours to try and figure it out. Glad I left the profession.
