Hey bro appreciate your comment as always 👍 them stockers took a beating that day and so did I, I am not a big fan of free stone tailwaters, spinny opening fished well for a few days,
Thanks for your support, lots and lots of practice and persistence pays off eventually for the HAWGS, I have not done a video yet on some of my top fly producers but the simple thread on a hook does better than most fly's, DOW stalked the Blue a few weeks ago with bruters making it a fun day on the water, I caught a beast last week and the video should be out soon
Great video! nice fish! How big was that second fish that you caught and what was the longest fish you caught that day? What size tippet were you using?
Hi Maria, glad u enjoyed the vid:) that big bow went 25" and he was the biggest that day, the fish averaged 18" with 2 going 21" I used 5x tippet that day, if I use a small Leach I will use 4x tippet, flows are low at the Blue making a good trip for sight fishing, good luck with netting the giant
I went to the dream stream a couple days ago and the fishing was great. They were taking purple San Juan worms, blue poison tungsten, and green RS2. Have you tried fishing Cheesman canyon?
@@marialee9095 my favorite place to fish is the Dream Stream, Browns and kokanees will be running soon. Good selection of fly's u was using, like the purple San Juan, what was ur biggest fish at the Dream? I was there a few days ago also floating spinny, I use to fish cheeman a few years ago and need to go back, close to home, modified mercy midge always would get me into the fish
Thanks much, the Blue is a great place to keep the casting skills fine tuned for the Dream Stream Giant's, I was lucky to rip some lips before the flows got to high,
Were they all legit hooked or were some foul hooked? Because last time I was up there I accidentally foul hooked a decent fish on the bottom of the lower jaw trying to sight fish it.
Hey John how has the fishing been? Hopefully you had a few good days on the water hooking some Hawgs! Spinny opening was good and a week after opening then it got slow, when you go be sure to be there at first light for some good action, wacky worms and orange scuds worked well, good luck!
This fly works great for better hookups and quickly getting down to feeding trout, use a TMC #16 2488 hook, place 2mm tungsten silver bead on hook then slide a glass bead, use black 70 denier thread and wrap only 3/4 of hook, idea is to imitate a size #18 or 20 fly on a 16 hook, build up thread in back of glass bead instead of using dubing and that's it, a very basic thread on a hook fly, fish seem to target this fly more than the others, good luck
@@Meller83 glad you got to see how well a simple fly gets the job done! I'm gonna have to give that place a try, haven't fished deckers for a while 👊👊👍
What kinda indicator you using here if any? Wondering if theyd be spooky at those flows clear water. Just caught a ton of big cutties at the Uncompaghre on tungsten warriors, some incredible bows in there right now thatll break you off in a heartbeat.
I only use the clear thingamamober for fishing river's with long leader's to avoid spooking the fish, I never fished that river hopefully soon though, sounds like u got it dialed in, good luck with your hunt for the giant 👍
Hi Julien, I am seeing more bigger fish in the deeper pools, better than it was a few years ago, CPW are doing a good job with stocking the upper section with big brood fish making it a fun experience, who knows maybe the blue will be like the Taylor one day, thanks for stopping by:)
Yeah that's great to hear hopefully the lower stretches are picking up as well! Shoot me your email I'll send some pics from 7-10 years back when they were stacked and hungry. I got into an 8 and 12 pound cutbow last December so the big ones are definitely still there just got to work to get them
April is when I filmed the video, when I fish the Blue I park under I-70 bridge and walk to spectator bridge in back of the 7-11 and back towards the dam, remember to give the Dream Stream a try cause the big brownies will be running, good luck with netting the giant
My opinion this fly catches more fish in tailwaters, especially Taylor river. #16 TMC 2488 hook, place silver 2mm bead on hook then place glass bead, use white 70 denier thread and extra small copper wire for body raps, only use 3/4 of hook shank, the idea is keep thread rap small imitating a size 18 or 20 fly on a #16 hook shank, works better for hook ups and getting fly depper for feeding fish, build thread up behind glass bead instead of using black dubing, good luck and thanks again for your support,
Best trout videos on you tube, by far. Nice footwork on the concrete. It seems they can't hide...

You certainly make it look easy. I looked for the fly tie you mentioned unable to find it. I look forward to trying the Blue river in March

Colorado Wildlife Mike the biggest one I landed was only 16 inches but I hooked some huge ones when I was there but snapped off because I use 6x.
@@marialee9095 I now the feeding, smallest I go is 5x on a size #20 fly, gives me a better chance of netting the giant
Man those trout had no chance!! You were sight fishing to the big fellas and putting it on the money every time. So fun to watch. Well done as always

Great video! How long was the fish at 3 minutes and 15 seconds?
Not sure, maybe 20"
What time of year was this? And where is some good places to access this river? We are going on Oct 12 of that week

what sz split were you using?
1 BB split shot when flows are bellow 80 cfs, any higher I add another split shot
Shoot me how to tie it brotha..i just liked and subscribed !!
