Gene wrote much of his material. He had a big catalogue of wonderful hits..you don't see his kind anymore. I feel fortunate to have been a fan since day one.
This song really showcases Genes singing ability, singing live, and when you get to the end and he hits those notes you understand why he was admired worldwide. He was also a great song writer.
Thank you for sharing. Was a Huge Gene Pitney fan & have many of his LP;s.. Just sad to know that he has moved on & there will never be another with such great talent
I have always loved OLDIES. When I heard GENE PITNEY for the first time I fell in LOVE with him. He had such a distinctive VOICE. I never got to see him perform in person or tape till NOW. On 04-21-2019 U-TUBE his VIDEOS just APPEARED. Thank You!!!!
Lovely to see these old recordings, thanks so much for uploading. Gene was just SO talented, not only a unique voice, but composer, instrumentalist, produced his own records and was such a beautiful whistler. And yet so grounded, the most unstarry celeb i have ever met.
I love this man's voice and delivery. He was like no other. Only voices I can even compare him to is Roy Orbison, Jay Black and Johnny Contardo. They still were not PITNEY.
Just heard I must be seeing things never heard this before. It really.is a beautiful song.and the way gene.sings it..so magical nice to see a live video of him to.
Lovely to hear from another HUGE Gene Pitney fan. Here in New Zealand we have a fairly new radio station called Magic which regularly plays Gene's recordings. I'm pleased to say that I regularly bombard them with requests (always for gene Pitney, of course) but am even more pleased to say that they often play these requests. So great to hear his music on the airwaves again.
Maxine, Gene is my favorite solo singer of all time. His delivery was magnificent. I heard "I gonna be Strong" when I was 11 and I was forever hooked. Have you checked out his songs in Italian? He was so much different on European TV as far as stage presence. He was obviously enjoying himself. Gene was always so serious on American TV. In 1960 when he sang " The Man who Shot Liberty Valance" at the Academy Awards he was so nervous bc he had to walk down a flight of stairs while singing. He wasn't worried about the singing part but he was terrified he'd fall and everyone in his hometown would see it lol Oddly in the movie they used the instrumental version not the lyric one. Didn't matter bc it was a big hit for Pitney. He also recorded country songs with George Jones. He wrote He's a Rebel which I think made it to number one by the Crystals. Hello Mary Lou which was a big bit for Ricky Nelson and Rubber Ball which was a hit for Bobby Vee. Then there was Something's Gotten Hold of my Heart which was a big hit ( again) with Marc Almond. I was floored to hear of his passing and hard to believe he's gone a decade. My biggest regret is never having seen him in concert. He had a one of a kind voice and seemed to be a genuinely nice person.:o)
Like yourself I became a fan from the first time I heard Gene sing. I bought many of his records which sadly I had to give away when I left New Zealand for ten years. Thankfully I did see Gene at a show in Christchurch (NZ) but a busy life did not allow me to enjoy my music interests. RUclips has brought those wonderful Gene Pitney moments back to me. Yes, I certainly have checked out his singing in Italian and every interview I can find and his Concert Show from 2000 and anything and everything else I can find. I enjoy listening to any good music but find I always come back to Gene Pitney. There is no-one like him. I never tire of listening to his recordings and I often listen for several hours. My favourite would be "Every Breath I Take" closely followed by "Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart", "Half Heaven, Half Heartache", "Tower Tall", closely followed by several others. Love his country and Italian songs. Think you could say I'm a HUGE fan. Many close to Gene confirm that he was, indeed, a person they were proud to know. Interested to hear what you think of "Trans Canada Highway".
I am a die hard Pitney fan and have been for 40 years. But JB is not the measure of today's quality of music. There are many excellent musicians/singers there...just to name a few. Hozier, Moby, Damien Rice, The Sharpes, Goete and so many more. You just have to find them, they are not the superstars, but they offer up a rival to these great oldies, and my beloved era.
the music nowadays i have never heard them ever say that any one of the many songs out today , that they have great voices, or that they can even sing the only thing they can say is who;s got the drugs, that goes to show you they need to be high to enjoy it asprin anyone i love our era of music gene is tops so is ral donner . roy orbison, & many, many more can't list them all
Bonnie, I don't remember hearing this song and Backstage until hitting it on You tube. Where was this music back then? I didn't find it in the record racks, and I could spend two hours there. But I'm grateful to hear it now.
When I bought this record I played it all night. Not only did my 3 brothers not complain but they became Gene Pitney fans.
Loved Gene Pitney Miss him What a Wonderful Voice
Love it!!
What a unique voice he had one of a kind thanks for your great songs Gone but not forgotten

Great performer - and so handsome, too.
Amen and then some. One of the greatest tenors of our time and there really are so few with this kind of excellence. :o)
Can almost feel the heartbreak from him, superb as always GENE GENIE, very sadly missed.
My, what a different world. Presentation, Production even the lyrics....all tied up with good or bad love. I miss it.

Maxine , no but I will look it up. Always grateful for one I haven't seen. Thanks :o)

Gene was a great vocalist. Bieber or one direction are nothing compared to him. There is no comparison natural talent, manufactured talent.

Forget Justin Bieber or one Direction...Give me Gene Pitney any day.
They don't have nothing on him.
Well, I don't think Bieber/One Direction should be used in the same sentence as Gene.
that name should not even be mentioned with gene pitney hes a low life. gene is supurb , great ,awesome, ect, compared to him.
Niets of niemand is zo geweldig als Gene, daarna Elvis,Roy O .
