    Got one of the amaryllis stargazers from Wal-Mart the other day & wanted to make sure I did a little research to help keep mine alive as long as possible😏😊 anywho, you just give off a sweet presence about yourself, one like Mr. Rogers, & I thought I'd share that with ya😊❤ I have decided to support your channel, I know it would benefit both of us in the long run😊😊 God bless you my friend❤

    I've never seen anyone or read anything about how to prevent bulb size reduction until you came along. Thank you very much.

      There are many vids & books on Amaryllis. including feeding, but basially, they're fed from February up until fall, when we cut back on light, water & food so they go into dormancy for several weeks.
      You'll want to see more of his & oher's videos as well. They require several weeks of dormancy to form new blossoms each year.

      @@cherylanderson3340 I've been growing Amaryllis for 45 years. I don't think mine have ever really increased in size becoming jumbo, despite having the same bulbs several years. Come to think of it, most the bulbs i see in these videos are not jumbo surely producing 3 or even 4 stalks, like the truly humongous bulb I got at the airport in a stopover in Amsterdam. It was so big and expensive--I couldn't get two, fearing the Israeli department of agriculture officials at my airport. I guess were I to do his advice and maybe cut flower stalk before it blooms in order to save energy--it might increase bulb size and at least insure that they not diminish in size, but I've never had one really take off. They always bloom, though thank God.

       @Yehoshua Cirt
      I meant no disrespect, just trying to be helpful. What did he say that prompted your response? I ask honestly, without reviewing the vid right now to see what I'd may have missed.
      The first one I'd bought was maybe 15 or more years ago - time flies & I lose track of time. It was easily twice the size of most I've seen since - being at least 5" wide & maybe 4" deep. It was in a pile of unsold holiday bulbs, in boxes designed to have the top open to accommodate the top growth. I had paid $7 +tax - all those years ago, so now, one that size might possibly cost double that. Now that I feel I know how to take care of them, I want to try some of the new-to- me types I've recently seen, here & elsewhere on RUclips, & in articles.
      As I recall, it seems that big one was an Apple Blossom. it bloomed, then I neglected it out of ignorance. I'd stopped watering completely, which is what I thought I was supposed to do. I remember thinking if I watered it, it would start to grow leaves again, out of cycle, & I'd mess it up. Sadly it shriveled up & died of neglect & ignorance.
      Now I have - 2 pots of Apple Blossoms, & in each, is a modest sized main bulb, + one baby each. One offset is slightly bigger, at 1" + , which is growing away from the main bulb. I've been trying to decide if one is ready to pot up on it's own. However, now, I'm considering keeping them together, in one larger pot, & then feed them, along with all my other house plants, until fall.
      After seeing some in video & a picture of maybe 30 of them in one pot - more closely replicating their natural habitat, where I've seen them growing in dense islands of lush leaves, with several scapes in bloom, none needing to be staked, & none looking like they could topple over, as one of mine did a few years ago.
      Here's one such pic. I may repot my 4 into one pot, with a couple inches all around them, & maybe put dried Spanish moss over the open soil to fill it in for now & to hold in moisture, during my winter, with baseboard heat. I may put them in a raised up situation, like on top of a large, inverted pot, or maybe hang the pot in a macrame hanger, in a north window, away from the baseboard heat & direct sun until they get settled, so I can enjoy the rich green 2' + long leaves, feed them until fall, & see what happens over the next few years.
      Maybe they'll produce more offsets to help fill in the pot, since they seem to like crowding together. Maybe coming up from a dense mat of roots, gives them more confidence to send up more scapes!
      This mass of blooms in one pot tells me I've been doing it all wrong, though a single bulb per pot allows me to place individual pots in between other plants on the floor.

      @@cherylanderson3340 I sensed NO disrespect from you. I was merely clarifying my experience. What prompted me to respond to the video? The fact that the Amaryllis Man explicitly addressed the techniques involved, instead of merely asserting that the bulb will grow each year through fertilizing like everybody writes and says. Here is a man who has experience and gives concrete three fold advice. Which I intend to be more strict in using, specifically the watering advice. My amaryllis are dry in the summer within a day, and Id let them be dry maybe three or four days, which never bothered me because I believed that the bulbs are healthy and firm this way albeit smallish. And now I maybe know why they were destined to now really grow. According to the video, maybe I should try to water more so that the bulbs maybe swell up. (When I was writing you, it struck me that even his aren't very huge). So I was thanking the man as I often do, because he is passionate and helpful and humble. And I'd like very much you thank YOU for your advice and also sensitivity. All the best!

      @@yehoshuacirt8645 Ah yes. I'd assumed mine had shrunk somewhat since I hadn't fed them, & the many leaves were likely drawing food from the bulbs.
      I wanted to edit my last response a bit, & to add a link.
