      TWiM 58 team discussed brain microbiome. I was taught the brain did not have a microbiome but that was years ago in undergrad. The topic intrigues me.

    Doctors, I have a layman's question:
    1. It seems like a vaccine that provided a vast reduction in Mpox lesions would be better than nothing at all, but, is there then the risk that the virus mutates and becomes more vaccine-resistant?

    • @truthordare5438
      @truthordare5438 Месяц назад +3

      Viruses mutate 1000s of times in each infected cell.
      Mutations that lead to greater transmission allow evolution to gain more hosts. This occurs regardless of vaccination.
      Only vaccination (or infection--if survivable & may cause lasting damage depending on the pathogen) can protect you from serious illness.
      The % of the population getting vaccinated makes a huge difference depending on the virus.

    Manhasset Bay! I used to spend my summers swimming in that bay - totally poluted (junk from boaters and marinas, but most probably from industry) back in the 50's. Expected to die from some weird toxins, but I'm still healthy and disease free at 77.

    It's great that things like the expansion of telehealth means there is some preparation for the next pandemic, but I wish there were more resources put into PREVENTION of the next pandemic. I hope that Kamala appoints a pandemic czar, who will liaise with bodies like the CDC and WHO etc.

    Curious if n the mix of az vs j in the paper comparing them with novavax and moderna. Worth noting az didn’t pre fusion stabilize the spike and jj was done as a single shot. So these differences may be involved in the different results seen.

    Classicly smallpox vaccine had risk and was administered on a five year schedule.
    Vastly safer than smallpox. There may be first, second, third refresh ... safety data.
    It may be valuable think about using multiple types of vaccine in a sequence.
    The comparison of vaccine types included J&J so this was early and now J&J is history. Today one might explore titrated doses to find an equivalence dose per product. Also measure reaction induced discomfort.

      What is not to trust? Offering information based on the science they have …which as they collect more data from more research overtime…they update that information. Much of TWIV is a discussion about that information. You listen and take a deeper look if you like.

    I do appreciate the science but please, Mr. Griffin, speak up. At the beginning of your sentences you tend to be super loud, when there is no or hardly any information conveyed yet, but when it comes to the end of a sentence, when the real information/number/advice is finally spoken, your voice is so quiet, only dogs can ever hear it. It would be really nice if that could be improved.

      what a load of bull. The vaccinated DO NOT SHED for a couple of months. While some spike is preserved in the germinal centers for the use of somatic hypermutation and affinity maturation. The rest is degraded quite fast. mRNA quickly degrades and only lasts a couple of days at most (in human cells I've seen 600 minutes/10 hrs half life). And there's no replication of this mRNA in the cells. Learn some science.

    I’m still hearing denial and conspiracy theories in the clinics where I work. It’s disappointing (but not surprising) to hear it from the nurses, but very disheartening to hear it from the MDs. We are all trained to follow the evidence. 🫤

      The proof that doctors / nurses trained to follow science can be so easily swayed is, to me, one of the worst aspects of the pandemic. They're human and are afraid. Urgent care is so poor now as to be essentially useless. Our system needs so much work!

    • @StefaanNijs
      @StefaanNijs Месяц назад +1

      If you need to seek so damned hard to find something true in the information our experts and politicians gave during covid-19... It is not easy to believe in medical institutions.
      But the ones who didn't see that won't never see it. Accept it as they may believe what they want. But don't speak that science is practiced. Science likes to be falsified. If your colleagues can't have another opinion than yours. Then you yourself don't like the scientific approach.

      @@StefaanNijs Many people can't tell the difference between a troll comment or a sincere one, especially when it comes to comments on a virology channel. If your joke comment directs someone to a source of dangerous misinformation, you've done more net harm than good. Is a joke that important? There are a zillion less harmful ways of making someone laugh. I realize you can't protect everyone, but every pandemic starts with a single infection.
