How did I become this old this fast?! These were the best times and best music. Glad I grew up in a world that revolved around radio stations and great music. 💙 Thanks for sharing this. It's pretty amazing the nostalgia you can get from hearing this. I can't be the only one that just wishes he could turn on that radio again and hear this play all night again.
I feel exactly the same way! It feels like I was JUST listening to 95.5 The Beat wearing rolled-up cheerleading shorts and memorizing the lyrics to Roll Out with my middle school bestie, and now I'm suddenly 33 and married. It all happened so fast. I'm incredibly thankful for my life as it is now, but I also feel nostalgic for those days.
Yeah me too. I think I recorded this at the Atlanta airport as I was waiting for my flight home all those years ago...95.5 never had as strong a signal back then as I think their tower was closer to Athens.
Truly I missed the station. As a friend of the WSB family, I had a blessed opportunity to go into that studio when it was on 97.1 HD too. After WSB took 95.5 over. Those were the good old days. If you would like to see the video, type in the search bar in the studios of 95.5 the beat
I'm kind of sad that I didn't appreciate this station and the hole it filled in my hometown dial. I was caught up in the hatred after requesting one song that I thought qualified as "hit music" at the time only to have that very song be mocked in a sweeper with the VO saying "want music that whines, go to a wine cellar". Little did I know that there were different definitions of hit music back then. RIP 95.5:The Beat. Oddly enough some of their alumni now work for what used to be that other hit music station... The song was "Ice Cream" by Sarah McLachlan.
The owner (Cox) decided to simulcast News/Talk sister WSB-AM in order to expand their signal reach (The AM, while having 50,000 watts, has a limited signal range due to poor ground conductivity.) WSB-AM had wanted to go after a younger audience that would not normally listen to AM. Also, commercial billing played a factor in them changing formats. They can make more money by putting WSB-AM’s News/Talk format on FM than continuing The Beat’s Rhythmic Top 40 format.
I miss the station. I remember when I first heard the station they were playing pretty much Rhythm Top 40 songs and eventually phased to a little more Hip-Hop and very little pop songs.
The worst thing they did is they only played hip hop and r&b and worse they played hip hop songs from the mid 90s those were the worst times for me they should've stuck with teen pop and other pop rock related hits.

Bro what happened to 955? It was pretty much the most popular station in Atlanta then it was just gone out of no where. So many child hood memories.

Man this brings me back to when my mom would take me to Skyview Elementary!
Siempre la escuchaba desde monterrey, México! Una de mis estaciones favoritas, alguien sabe porque dejo de transmitir?
Owner (Cox) decided to go in a different direction with having their AM News/Talk outlet (WSB-750 AM) simulcasted to FM.

It was a rhythmic station not a pop station
Yeah I can remember for awhile they played mostly dance hits like late 90s eurobeat and freestyle, then they switched it to r&b and hip hop.
@@kannon965 Yoooo, I remember you from another rhythmic station (WRDW-FM aka “Wired 96.5” in Philly, PA)
