    Great video. I am always amazed at the intestinal fortitude and courage early settlers had in crossing this great country of ours. No matter what roads you travel on, they are spectacular in the diverse scenery.

    It looks like a lot of folks used the Mackey Mine buildings for target practice! The reactor that supplied Arco's electricity, EBR-1 is south of town, a very cool spot to visit.

    Very cool, I love Idaho. An idea for a RV trip would be the Missoula Floods, Starting in Missoula and traveling the path of the flood down to the Columbia river. During the Ice Age a glacier moved south and blocked the flow of the Clark Fork River and created Lake Missoula that was close to 1,000 ft deep. The ice dam eventually failed and a huge flood sent water up to 300 ft deep rushing across Washington state.
    Another idea is the lava flows across Washington state out to the Pacific ocean.

    1:49:55. That visitors Center is new. You can walk down into the canyon from there. I did it once.
    Yes it looks very flat when viewed from the north side near i-84.

    Russ, it's pronounced "show shown". The "e" on the end is silent. When most people think of Idaho they only think of mountains. There's lots more to it. We live near Twin Falls so most of this is in our backyard. The Shoshone Snack Bar has great burgers. That bridge is one of the very few in the U.S. where it's legal to base jump off of it. We see them quite often.

    • @rvertv
      @rvertv  5 часов назад

      Thanks for the local info, I'll have to try that burger!

    I was working in a steel fab shop in Spokane Washington during that quake, I didn't feel the quake but the hook block from the overhead bridge crane started to swing back and forth all by itself... it was spooky. Was watching news that evening when I heard about the earthquake and it dawned on me that it was the reason the crane block was swinging. Spokane is 300 miles to the northwest of Borah peak as the crow flies.

    That earthquake site reminds me of this one here in west Tennessee on the new Madrid fault. About ten miles wide an thirty miles long an fifty feet deep. An where the lake itself formed the water of Mississippi River filled it took 2 days for those 2 days no water ran by memphis an to gulf during those 2 days. The lake now is called reelfoot named after a native American chief it's a Tennessee state park now great fishing spot. That earthquake was so violent that it rang the liberty bell in Massachusetts

    That first reactor blew up, impaling two workers into the ceiling with rods going through their bodies. Their coffins had to be lead lined to be safe for the funerals. There are videos all about it here on YT. Till this day the area has warning signs about dangerous radiation.

    Just east of Boise you can still see the ruts of the Oregon Trail. Imagine traversing down those steep escarpments along the Snake River in wagons with horses. You can still see where the went down to the river in those wagons. Some did not make it.

      @rvertv  5 часов назад
