Zankyou Sanka - Demon Slayer S2 OP [Piano] / Aimer

Zankyou Sanka is definitely one of the most FLAMBOYANT opening songs of this year with its fast tempo and with a length of only 3 minutes, the song truly feels like the embodiment of a musical firework: Spectacular from start until finish and over in an instant.
① The “Japanese-style” ornaments
One of the main musical ideas for this arrangement would be the “Japanese-style” ornaments, noticeable in 0:04, in 2:13 and in 2:25. I used the so-called “In-scale (陰音階)”, a pentatonic scale consisting of the notes Eb-E-Ab-Bb-B-Eb.
When I watched the opening animation of Demon Slayer S2, I realized how “Japanese” everything was: The busy Taisho Era night life, the colorful fireworks and the lavish costumes of the courtesans. This inspired me to look up for traditional Japanese music and studying its typical musical language.
② Focus on Rhythms
The drum set has a very prominent role in the original song and I took extra care to faithfully replicate all the rhythms for this piano arrangement. This results in a few unusual left-hand patterns, such as the offbeat-rhythm in 0:39 or the busy drum roll in 0:50. I initially also included a few jazz scales in the middle voice as well, but I felt they were distracting the rhythm too much, so I omitted it at the end.
③ The mystery behind Aimer’s “Zankyou!”
I have been pondering for a while how to interpret the powerful “ZAN KYOU” from Aimer in 1:20 and 3:00 on the piano. Aimer is singing a grace note here, so I had a hard time to decide whether it is a F#-G# or G-G#. In the end, I also played some grace notes in the left hand to imitate Aimer’s voice and I added an additional lower octave to maximize the impact of “ZAN KYOU”.
④ The “trumpet” or “why pianists should have three hands after all”
My initial goal was to replicate the awesome trumpet melody from the original song, which is playing most of the background melodies during the chorus. But almost all my three-hand technique proved to be next to impossible to play due to the huge intervals between the main melody and the trumpet melody. Never have I wished so hard to physically own a third hand before…
But in the end, I managed to quote the trumpet voice in 0:55 (pay attention to the middle voice) and after modifying the trumpet voice a little bit, I was able to come up with a three-hand technique in 2:35.

@@Animenzzz sometimes, creating cannot be too complicated but beautiful things inside, it would lower the original feelings of the song sometimes like a powerful chorus doesn't need a complicated melody but it still impress u. Maybe u would think it's good but actually, i think not just me, many audiences of ur channel may prefer ur own special and beautiful cover with a gorgeous melody. Honestly, I have compared u and many others piano players .Until now, I still think u can stay at the top in my list because of ur flexible hand. I want this world has a gorgeous piano player just like Uzui Tengen!

What a great masterpiece to end this year, I'm looking forward to Animenz's journey to 2022 and beyond. Hoping to see another legendary arrangement that rivals the likes of My Dearest 10th Ann. & Everlasting Guilty Crown that once again raises the bar for anime piano arrangements in the near future.

Mr. Animenz you are literally the coolest person ever; this arrangement is PHENOMENAL. When you started playing the second verse I got one of those full-body shudders of "this is so freaking cool that my mortal brain is struggling to put it into coherent thoughts" and for the rest of the piece I was just in awe of the sophistication of your arrangement. I wish I could do what you're doing! I'll keep practicing so I can try and be on your level someday, no matter how far away that day may be. ;)

This Op didn't seem demon slayer like at first but the whole arc itself is like that so it grew on me eventually and seeing Animenz cover this is this year's last treat

I love how every little detail has this polyphonic feel to it, the added right-hand-notes at for example 0:58 and 1:09 really glued the sections together. Love that part!

I came to this video to leave a comment on hope that maybe the creator of this channel will see what I'm here to say.
I have only ever listened to a few of the songs on this channel. I mostly come here for the music from Kancolle. I was reading the video description of the Kancolle Medley video because I wanted to know the names of the individual parts of the medley and I read the story about the rut and sadness that this creator had fallen into and how they had decided to stop posting to RUclips, or to make new music. I read about how they were inspired to make that Kantai Medley and it pulled them from the bad place of sadness and depression they had fallen into.
That Kantai Medley was released nearly 7 years ago. I just wanted to say thank you for creating this content. It has brought much joy to many people. It's important for us all to remember that we aren't alone in our dark places, and that we each inspire and lift up other people, even if we don't see those people. Even if we never meet these people, we can have a positive impact on their lives, sometimes even when things aren't going well for us, we can be a great boost to those in our communities. Thank you for being such a good creator. Thank you for the music you're helping bring to millions online. Thank you for being passionate and for using your passion to build a nicer world through music. 🙏
