    I appreciate you taking us along this process. I just bought a $600 collection and am also looking to make my money back using CGC. This is my first time intentionally buying with the goal of flipping for a profit, and you've really inspired this. Thanks for taking us a long the way. Even if you just break even, you probably learned a lot and that has value too.

    • @stevef9233
      @stevef9233 4 года назад

      Using CGC locks in the grade and therefore the price for that book. The chances people are going to "overpay" for a comic goes down if they know the exact grade. If Gary's Walking Dead #1 wasn't graded, who knows how much somebody would pay. Then again, you have the chance of hitting a home run if the grade is really good because most of the premium sales are CGC sales.

    • @robertt9342
      @robertt9342 4 года назад

      @Steve F . I think you answered your own question regarding "who knows what someone is would pay". The answer is less than a CGC copy. There is a premium built into CGC pricing as it eliminates uncertainty. CGC maximizes the price at a given grade.
      Sure I guess you could have a guy could think your copy is a few grades higher than it is, or at least enough difference to cover the premium cost and then some, but that would require a significant and substantial difference in their subjective grading versus CGCs grading.

    Hey Gary, maybe consider a "deep dive" long-form video on the remainder boxes, that would be cool to see the lower-end depth of the collection. Still, very good video and insight. My mind was borderline 3K on the collection but I think with a few quick flips, you're solid. MAJOR THUMBS UP on the content man. Keep up the good work!

    I used to run the biggest comic book store on the west coast in the 80's and 90's and we loved buying people's collections, it was always an adventure plus we had same philosophy as you to turn those books as fast as possible to avoid having dead inventory. I think you didn't over pay to much, but best way to get the $ back fast is to take all the crap books nd have a blowout sale over the weekend 2 for a dollar. Send out invites to your clients and they will come. I have been out of the biz for 2 decade's and no longer collect, but I'm fasinated by how changed the industry is. I just signed up for your channel, look forward to newer content.

    I've been collecting comics here in the UK for about 35 years, but to nowhere near the extent that you do it, mate! I've been watching your videos for a couple of weeks now, and I must say I'm incredibly impressed with your amazing, encyclopaedic knowledge of key issues, first appearances and the like. I'm certainly no expert, however, but I'd say you didn't overpay for this collection, I mean, how much is a slabbed Walking Dead #1? That alone must go for megabucks, no? Anyway, thanks for all the great videos!

    Your comment about hoping the grader "falls asleep at the wheel" (yes I know you were kidding) is the big problem I have with all the 9.8 grading hysteria. The difference between a 9.6 and 9.8 is typically like one flaw. One tiny thing that may or may not triple the value of a book. And it feels like a total crapshoot. If 3 professionals look at every book that goes through CGC there should be irrefutable proof that a book is a 9.8 or higher. They could back that up with grader notes but as we know, CGC hides them behind a paywall and even then they're sketchy at best. Basically if someone is negligent in their duties as a grader, we should be upset. But instead, everyone is stoked that their book just tripled in value. It's creating this bubble in the comic market that will eventually burst. We're already flooded with 9.8s of several bronze/copper key books. When those start to decline in value, because there's literally thousands of them, I wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing more 9.9s and 10s pop up so CGC can maintain their street cred as the go to grading company.
    Sorry, end of rant. I think you made a good purchase.

    • @jerryp7721
      @jerryp7721 4 года назад

      Agree. Used to be upset when I got a 9.6 without graders notes but I’d rather see very selective 9.8’s otherwise we will wind up with any grade below 9.8 in modern and Copper being worth nothing.

    The greatest find i ever had was this time i was helping my aunts elderly friend clean her attic out and in the corner of it i found a box filled with comics of various titles with there ages going from 1974 and a few from 1945 which is crazy because that was during WW2. Alot of comics from that era did not survive due to the government's campaign asking people to send in all the scrap paper they could to help with the war so most moms would donate the kids comic books making comic books from that time very rare. I had asked the lady about the box fearing she would want to throw it away and she recognized the box and said it belonged to her deceased husband he had been a comic book fan and later on during the 70's there son also use to store his comic books in the box but he was also now deceased and she had not seen the box for many years. I asked her what she wanted me to do with the box and she said she would give it to me as payment for cleaning her attic out and at first i refused and said you must have relatives or grandkids who would want this but she said she did not and she could tell i would take care of them and that her son probably would have wanted someone who appreciated them to have them. Yeah that was a good day.

    Gary....you may have already covered this on previous videos so I apologize if I am going over ground already covered. Getting back into comics at age 68 after collecting since the 60’s but new to the technology involved in grading. Can you address what cleaning and pressing involves, the cost, and where you recommend us going to? Thanks so much!!!

    You did good Gary. Not all buys are homeruns but with time and patience you’ll make some good money off this

    I don’t think you overpaid at all, but like you said, it will take more time with this one to recoup your expenses. I would have paid that price too man. Great vid as always, Gary! Looking forward to seeing the prescreen one soon!

    Who cares what people think. It's your money. I think its a great buy with all those slabs and raw keys. Great job Gary.

    I never understood the point of slabbing comics. They were made to be read: why seal them in plastic cases?

      Protects them. Also gives them a definitive value.

      Also the option of witnessed artwork or signatures. Don’t worry. No one will force you to slab a book.

      High grade book for investment. Lower grade books to read.

    Excellent/exciting collection for the average collector. Not so much for the professional collector. Can't turn a good slab down 👍
