  • Hi everyone!
    In today's video I show you how to make a two toned beanie on your knitting machine. This beanie is easily customisable if you would like to leave the pom pom off or if you'd like to make it in one solid colour. It is double layered so super warm for winter!
    I used approximately 140g of aran weight yarn all up (including pom pom).
    If you have any question please feel free to comment below :)
    Enjoy!

    You probably already know this but incase you didn’t. You can skip waste yarn by using your cast on tail as the cast off yarn, then just pull it into itself the tube will pull the ends together automatically and is super satisfying. I hope this helps someone!💜

      @@sassegranny4700 Do a few rounds using a contrasting color waste yarn. Then when you begin to use the yarn for your hat leave a long strand laying in the center. It’s called the cast-on tail. Then finish all your rounds, fold your project in half so that the bottom round of your hat yarn (not waste yarn) is near the top stitches on the machine. Ignore the waste yarn. It’s there only to help you locate the yarn stitches. You can alternate picking up a stitch from the hat just after the waste yard, then a loop on the machines hook until the project is completely off the machine. Remove all the waste yarn. So, instead of using a separate cast-off strand, you have used the cast-on yarn strand to cast-off. When you cinch it tight, it pulls the top and bottom together in one fell swoop. You can tie a knot for a two-sided hat or put a pom-pom for a one-sided hat. I tried it and it works, but I had a hard time finding every stitch because I didn’t use any waste yarn. A contrasting waste yarn is essential for your first few rounds so that you can locate every stitch. Otherwise your hat unravels. Good luck.

    So, I tagged you in instagram in the hat I made because you seriously just made me like my machine even more. I only got it yesterday but I was already feeling defeated because the hats I made until now were not the best looking. I didn't use two colours, (not ready for that) but I applied your technique to my single coloured hat and it looks 100% better than the first two hats I made. Seriously, thank you so much for putting this video up and I am seriously glad that I found this. Feel free to remove the tag, I just like to apply credit where credit is due. You have made my month with this. I have ADHD so if something doesn't go my way, I tend to quit, you just reinforced my motivation. Sorry for the long winded comment. Thank you so, so, so, much.

    You are right! double layered beanies are more comfortable! Single layered are too loose (of course depending on the yarn! Do you have a tutorial on if/when stitches are dropped? On my first attempt at a 'double' I dropped stitches when attaching the second waste yarn - I sort of hooked the dropped stitches and by the time I cinched the top it sort of disappeared, but it would be nice to know what to do with dropped stitches. Thank you

      Hey Sarah!
      That’s a great question. You will be able to make them slightly smaller by tightening your tension, but keep in mind you don’t want it to be so tight that it damages your machine.
      You can also achieve a smaller beanie by working a panel instead of a tube, seaming along the long edge to create a (smaller) tube and then finishing as per this video.
      So yes it can be done without having to purchase a smaller machine, it’s just a little more fiddly 🙂 I hope this helps!

    Hi Kate. Greetings from France ❤💐 A wonderful fantastic video tutorial. Your video popped in front of my eyes and I decided to watch it. No regrets. So well explained with much laughter and excitement in your golden voice and splendid accent. You really made me giggle when you forgot to tie in the ends before popping on your pompom. You were very sincere and showed us how you corrected your mistake. That was so moving. Each time I watch your other videos you make me smile and giggle😂🤣. I am new to this machine. I watched a recommended video a few days ago on how to make socks on this machine in less than 15 minutes. I immediately purchased one which arrived on 24.03.21. I take 4h to knit real socks, not tubes, on my CIRCULAR KNITTING NEEDLES and at least 8h for crocheted beanies. Your video was a great help for a 70 year old. Thanks for sharing caring and making me smile. A big hug from France 🥰🥰🥰👍👍👍👍👍💐💐💐💐💐💗💗💗💗💗

Im using the machine or the first time and can't even get through the second color because it keeps jamming and then I keep restarting with the waste color and now my waste color keeps jamming over and over again. I kept trying, and finally got it. What worked for me what laying out all of the possible yarn that I was going to use before hand. Because I kept having to start the process over, I tried without the waste yarn at the beginning and I finally got it to work for some reason. I did later use the waste yarn for the end and it helped a lot. I think I just needed some practice, I also tried a few different yarn sizes. Then, I had to learn how to fix the yarn if the machine wouldn't fully grab the strand of yarn. Thanks of posting this video, I made a really cool hat for my very first time ever using yarn. Was frustrating at first but I think I learned how to work with the machine on this first go.

    I WISH TO PASS ON A TIP AT THE BEGINNING OF SETTING UP EDGE. SET UP WITH WASTE YARN AND DO A FEW ROWS , NOW GET A 3 METER LENGTH OF strong (the crochet cotton) COTTON THREAD AND KNIT ONE ROW. THEN START THE MAIN YARN AND CONTINUE ON YOUR PROJECT. AT THE FINISHING OF YOUR PROJECT, PICK UP ALL THE STITCHES FROM 1st MAIN COLOUR. (Set up end only) CATCH THE COTTON ONE ROW YARN. JUST CHECK THAT YOU MISSED NO STITCHES !!! NOW PULL ONE END OF THE COTTON THREAD AND PULL IT OUT. YOUR WASTE YARN FROM START EDGE SHOULD SLIP OFF HERE. THAT CAN BE WOUND AND RE USED. FINISH OFF AS USUAL. KEEP THE 3M COTTON FOR RE USE, NOTE MAKE SURE ITIS WITHOUT KNOTS OR JOINS. I USED THIS METHOD AND IT WORKS. (i had this tip from using the set up cord from Knitmaster knitting machines) See how ye go!! From a senior citizen which loves crafts crochet and knitting. Best of luck.

    I am so glad I found you! If the makers of the Sentro don’t pay you or give you give you free stuff, they absolutely should! I was given a sentro by my husband for Christmas. I never wanted a knitting machine but I am a slow knitter and I think my husband had done the math and realized at the rate I knit my stash had exceeded my life expectancy so he wanted to help speed things along to get rid of the yarn all over our house 😂 To say the instructions that came with the Sentro were vague is a bit of an understatement. After cranking out my first test knit on it I was unimpressed and probably wouldn’t have bothered using it again until I found your videos! You’ve inspired me! Thank you!!

    Just wondering why you are using waste yarn instead of just taking it off the machine with a needle ?

    • @Katieree
      @Katieree  3 года назад

      Hi Lesley!
      Using waste yarn gives your edges a much nicer finish. The first couple of rounds can be quite loose so rather than having the loose rounds at the beginning of your project the waste yarn allows you to remove them instead! 😊

    So I have wanted a knitting machine and finally gave in and got a sentro from Amazon. I figured trying with making hats would be great. However, now I’m starting to completely fail.
    I have different spots just coming off the machine as if on a knitting loom and I just miss one and that spot becomes an open spot it all wants to come apart on.
    I also have spots where they are not looping over and they are building up. I suppose I should be watching that not a tv, but how does that even happen? I don’t realize it did happen till the handle on the side makes a somewhat loud cranking stop sound
    Is this from using not the right type of yarn or not doing the correct tension?

    • @Katieree
      @Katieree  2 года назад +1

      Hi Rose,
      It could be either or a mixture of both! The knitting machine does take some trial and error. I find the medium tension and 8 ply/ DK weight yarn works best. Goodluck! 💛

    Hi! The hat is super cute! I'm considering getting one of these machines, however, looking at the specs the circumference of the machine seems a bit small. Have these hat been ok size for adults to wear? Are there any considerations to make them big enough for adults?
    Thanks! :)

    • @Katieree
      @Katieree  3 года назад

      Hey Eeva!
      This machine is a 48 peg machine which is the biggest of the circular knitting machines (that I’m aware of). These are definitely suitable for adults 😊 you can adjust your tension to make them smaller or larger depending on your preference.. also keep in mind they are super stretchy when you take them off the machine.
      I hope this helps! 🌻
