Great breakdown! Primo is one of the all time greats. Scratches on who's gonna take the weight are incredible. The use of scratches on this album and Daily Operations is like the guitar solo on rock records: it should be a mandatory item in any hip-hop track. Preemo signature vocal scratches too.
21:11 Question: At the time of making that video, you couldn't find that song?
Greedy lawyers judges killed it
This is why real hip hop music is so dope. Doing something creative w/ what they got. Some people say sampling is roberry, but it's introduced kids to music that been catching dust, basically forgotten. Sampling has revived careers of George Clinton, and and other other careers. Call sampling what you want, but I call it creating something from living in poverty.
Ol Skool Trey very well put.
they just dont know. it's an art
i've discovered some gems through sampling. it's awesome.
Nothing but the truth.....
Big props to thw original musicians who made the music sampled
Premier has one of the most unorthodox ears for samples ever...
oskamadison totally agree. He makes some amazing music from the smallest part of a track that most people wouldn't even think of sampling
IKR?
Absolutely, Preemo creates masterpiece from nothing. My favorite producer of all time. RIP Guru one of the best yet!
I honestly had no idea Primo put this much work into that album. But then again I should have known better after all it's Gangstarr!!
Eric H yep even back then Preemo was putting in some serious work digging for samples.
That album?? You sound like your hating
"Step In The Arena" definitely paid a lot of respect to the 70's Music genre. 20 years later a updated format in the 90's. Showing the elders respect, while blessing the youth with knowledge. R.I.P. G.U.R.U... Preemo for President.# Gangstarr
Such an amazing album with some great samples.
@@DJFurio Hell Yeah
Primo is a goddam genius !!!!
Who's Gonna Take The Weight is so flawless.
One of my favourite tracks. I did this video last year as part of the DJ Premier scratch challenge he was endorsing ruclips.net/video/Z1eTxm4NyYk/видео.html
DJ Premier should never hate on your sample videos. You're just paying homage to the man himself, salute DJ Furio.
Thenks for watching
Did he?
DJ PREMIER......A GOT DAMED GENIUS!.....HANDS DOWN TOP TWO PRODUCER..........WE ALL KNOW HE AINT 2
This will always be my favorite gang starr album. Growing up i used to play GTA IV on the ps3 it had 2 hip hop stations The beat and The classics. The beat 102.7 had sets by legendary djs like green lantern, funk flex, mr c and statik selektah. The classics had 1 dj set playing over and over and over, every time id go over to the station the set would just be starting and you’d hear the legendary dj premier welcoming you to LFHQ followed by the pppppremier. Growing up i never realized how iconic he was or ever who he was until i was about 16. Rip to guru and shoutout to the whole gang starr foundation.
Great album and a great game too
Hip hop in his finest ...💥💥💥💥
I think the best Gangstarr's album so far
It's definitely a classic of theirs
Daily operation
Top 3, yes. The other two...Moment of Truth and Hard to Earn
Close bro. Second for me behind HTE.
@@9577frasier Step in the Area!
I smiled the entire time listening to this..appreciate the work and subbed.
tizzflightops They do take a lot of work so thanks for the props and sub
Same here brother 🎧✨
Great work - Salute to Hip Hop, proud to be a part of it. The amount of work put into creating each track is genius - finding the sounds, chopping them up, speeding up, slowing down, scratching, programming drums & so much more - Love It. Peace
Masterpiece at it's finest!! Pure dopeness!! Hip Hop Don't Stop!! 🔥👍🔥👍
One of my favorite rap groups of all time so underrated
Same here
Dope collection! Primo put in THAT WORK. This is my favorite Gang Starr album by far.
Now I find myself listening to some 70s songs I've never heard of and I'm gonna be replaying them
DJ Furio: Excellent work. Solid quality. It's a report card for me when I watch a video like this, to know that I have just about all of the wax that it took to create the Step In The Arena record in my back room. Keep this series of videos coming, much support. If I could ask a challenge of you? Make one of these videos for J.V.C. Force "Doin' Damage" LP from 1988 B-Boy Records.
William Holloway glad you like these sample breakdown videos I’ve made. I will look into JVC Force album and see what samples I can dig up. I know a fair few off the top of my head but might take a while to create the video.
That was freaking awesome 👍👍👍. Preemo is a freaking genius. RIP Guru.
Real old video this one. Thanks for watching
Mate, fantastic video. Absolutely amazing!

'Give It Up' by Kool & The Gang ('69) on 'Take A Rest'
B. Rod Clark really don’t know how I missed that one as it’s an obvious one and right at the start of the track too
@@DJFurio Curtis Mayfield too! Faith Evans blew up off that same sample latee!
The "Step Up" was also used in I get around by Tupac
I think it was sampled from Gangstarr actually!

Great list. I’m also really liking Apollo Brown at the moment
Thanks For The Upload. This Is Real Hip Hop. Gang Starr Forever.
Hip Hop excellence. This album and Tribe Low End Theory were the first tapes I had on auto reverse repeat continuously. Premier is a genius.
Both classic albums.
When I was a kid listening to this I always said Premier was the best around. His samples were so unique, like nothing else out there. GangStarr will always be one of my favorites! Thanks for putting this together homie, prolly really difficult!
Glad I could bring back some good memories for you.
The ultimate Gangstarr album... imho.
Very thorough! True HIP HOP HISTORIAN!
My first album, fo' eva the best album...FOR ME A MASTERPIECE...the beginig of my hip hop love story
SAMPLE BEAT SCRATCH AND A MIC, the only real recipe
peace to primo and R.I.P GURU.
A real fan from France
good work !!! Peeeeeeace !
Thanks for watching. It’s one of my favourite albums too
DJ Premier is a creative genius and one of the pioneers of the sound of hip-hop, he has inspired me since the 'Step in the Arena" LP and undoubtedly is in the category of G.O.A.T in the field of producing and DJ-ing. My favorite producer of all time! I heard a dope beat, somebody told me that buck did it, but if Premo did n't do it I can't fuck with it.
Had the pleasure of meeting Premier and Royce the 5'9" at a phryme show in Cleveland, OH back in 2015 at a meet and greet. He had a segment in the show where he would recreate samples from popular hip hop music. 1 of the best concerts I ever attended. Me and my girl were amazed the whole time! Thank you for sharing your videos. Keep hip hop alive!!!
Thanks for watching
In The Meaning of the Name, the drum sample is Kool Is Back by Funk Inc. Premier chopped it up.
DJ Furio I need you to do one on Howie Tee. He’s so underrated
Co-sign!
Excellent breakdown. KUDOS!❤
Another banger Furio
One of my favorite top 10 albums in hip hop
Ok ok ok; this album is a freaky masterpiece. What Premier did with some of these samples?😖🔥😖? I miss that hip hop...
mychalpryor2473 yeah he’s a genius at finding one tiny portion of a track and flipping it
@@DJFurio i definitely appreciate his work and some ithers from that area more so NOW then I did then.
That LaGuardia sample... Blows my mind. How, what, why!?!? Insane
Awesome. I'm surprised you left out USG's UFO sample out of Take a Rest.
I sampled both of them in and I'm convinced it's not the same sample when listening closely. Either it's from another track or it's been replayed to sound similar to the original.
Hate to disagree
Also your "Take A Rest" Marvin Gaye sample is right but the wrong part
Wow I wish I could give this video 100 thumbs up!!! 👍Great job!
Thanks for watching. I’ve done most of their other albums too ruclips.net/p/PLKhcbxwjtW9HKX4RFa2Zf7-DzMXIrZZgl
Eva was also sampled for "Hit'em hi " from the space jam (1996) soundtrack
Rip guru
Nice work
Nasty Preemo thanks. Please hit the like button and also subscribe and check my other videos
Curtis Mayfield "right on fir the darkness" was also used in Mase "tell me what you want"
Just discovered your channel today
Loving it keep up the good work
👌🏼
Thanks for watching
The DJs name is Premier and I’m the Guru
can you do something like this for public enemy
On “Love Sick”, I always thought that the “Love” sample was from Denzel Washington from the “Mo’ Better” movie when his character was performing that Jazz tune “Love”
Dopeness.
pump this up and down in my car.one of the best rap Albums ever made.
Plexpara yeah it’s a real classic
You know d.j. premier hates this kind of thing where you reveal the secrets of the samples but you have to admit it's amazing and it shows the deejays knowledge and skill...this album was literally handcrafted!!!!
Don’t think he’s that bothered any more. He’s been doing a weekly RUclips video where he discusses his big tracks and often shows the sample.
Also fuck premo. You know who really hates people sampling and not giving credit? The original artists he ripped off
Dope
Team Lannister thanks. Please subscribe and check the playlist for 4 more samples of Gang Starr albums ruclips.net/p/PLKhcbxwjtW9HKX4RFa2Zf7-DzMXIrZZgl
Hhmmm! Interesting..never heard a breakdown like this...👌
Thanks for watching
love Preemo!!
Me too
Great Job
@DJ Furio Many thanks for this upload 👌
snel1 forel no problem. Good to hear you like it. I’ve done full breakdowns of all the Gang Starr albums apart from No More Mr Nice Guy. Might get round to that one too one day.
Well done sir, I thought I knew the hooks but I’ve schooled
Yeah some great sampling on this album.
Great work! Thanks a lot
dope !!!!
Fucking fire boss!
Glad you like it. Did their other albums too ruclips.net/p/PLKhcbxwjtW9HKX4RFa2Zf7-DzMXIrZZgl
Nice !!! ~ 💯
I love shit like this 🔥🔥🔥🔥
great job!
I made a beat with sampling. Everything was a sample the drums the song itself everything. I submitted it cuz it was an assignment for my music production class. And my teacher the next day after emailed me on the assignment saying that he can’t grade it cuz it’s not my beat. And to be fair a couple days back before this happened I asked him if it was ok to sample and he said yes to me in my face in person. No email. What do I do?
Fire!!!!!
Vernon Appleton glad you like it
Here today, gone tomorrow also has the drums from Funkadelic's You'll like it too.
Well spotted. Didn’t know that when I put this video together
@@DJFurio it's a well known one so no sweat. I am still shaking from the more unknown samples. Amazing job on finding and compiling and creating these videos. Your scratches are on point!
@@craz1974 glad you’re liking them. I put a lot of time into the full album breakdowns including scratches, compared to my standard sample videos.
Why you tellin? Now Premo gotta write a couple of checks.
DOPE !!!
INGINIO VALENTIN JR thanks for watching. Done the same breakdown for most Gang Starr albums ruclips.net/p/PLKhcbxwjtW9HKX4RFa2Zf7-DzMXIrZZgl
Parliament - You’ll Like it Too for the drums on Here Today, Gone Tomorrow.
Don Guapisimo don’t know how I missed that one. It’s really obvious when you listen to them👍
Ultramagnectic Mc's " Ease Back", and Biz Markie
bummer on the kole & param track though. it's been uploaded on here now. never mind. still a great effort
Yeah this is a pretty old video. At the time there was no audio of it available anywhere.
Great video...only suggestion: just let the samples play freely in their entirety for few seconds so we can appreciate the original song they're from just like you did in your "Every Sample from Black Sheep" video.
This is a really old video. I’ve not really done full album breakdowns for a while.
james brown o melhor da historia
🙌🙌🙌
Do you know the horn sample from Step In The Arena that starts playing when the big Daddy Kane vocal comes in? I cant find it
Jesus Alcaraz not sure what’s its from
@@DJFurio damn now even who sampled knows that one I been tryna find it 😂
@@DJFurio not even*
Jesus Alcaraz lots of samples don’t get listed on there for various reasons. If an artist asks them to not list samples then they lock the artist page. I’m pretty sure I did find that horn sample a while ago too and really can’t remember it.
@@DJFurio wow really? I think DJ Premier had done that before. Mass Appeal drums is from You're A Customer by EPMD and apparently it used to be listed there before.
Woulda been real dope to put the original drum loop for just to get a rep... good job nonetheless fam
What about the piano loop from Execution of a Chump?
Diogo Pereira still unknown. Preemo did play real piano on some tracks so might not be a sample.
DJ Furio I’ll ask Sample Spotters
DJ Furio It’s played by Lisle Leete, the engineer. Check Discogs www.discogs.com/Gang-Starr-Step-In-The-Arena/release/314701
👊🏻✊🏻✌🏻💯💯💯💯
That "Never had a dream" by Kool & the gang doesn't exist
That's because it's the Ohio players never had a dream and Kool and the gangs give it up
@UCsZ0Bwpj0q2p6ZywQHznQhw
Of course....i was meaning at 14:40 . Give it up by Kool & the gang
haha, i guess you kids dont know but mid 90s sample comps or breakbeat record like drumcrazy were bane of rap music. if this were to happen while these guys were active back then, i seriously think youd lose your life haha...right now, primo has a yt show where he takes one song of thiers at a time, does this whole big reveal of the sample lol, meanwhile you been prolly doing this a couple years...
21:16
hey, dont worry i found the audio
