    that is my dream vehicle. The only things I would change is I would put a metal rack on the roof. Add a snorkel to it and put one of those pvc showers on the top. And put a winch on the front as well as a lift. Then it would be perfect.

    I am sure this is on your list or already on your rig: a roof rack, LED bar light (front and rear) and recovery equipment (tree saver, tow snatch, tow rings, compressor, Maxxtrax, etc). May even consider an aux battery and 100w solar panel. You can buy 2 50 watts, hinge the two together and make your own portable foldout solar system)

    The only thing they changed recently is the motor and the center console and rear view mirror is lighted now. Great jeep. I have to lift mine and get some wheels/tires and also want to swap my grill for a black one. Cool maglite holder and tool kit. I've seen that shelf before and need to pick one up.

    Very efficient design. I have a very similar set up, just in case (worst case). But my main hope is to dig in at home. Easier to defend, all my supplies are here and nearest neighbor is five miles away. I invested most of my survivalist money into home defense. There is no place better to bug out to. It is remote, it is secure and it is self sustainable with crops, ponds and livestock. Three brothers within thirty minute drive are coming here with their families to provide security and help with food preps if things get bad. But if nukes start dropping, we are all screwed. I am working on an underground shelter, but I really don't think I want to live like that. I would rather burn up quickly than listen to my wife bitch at me in a tiny bunker for two years.

      +craig79792000 The nukes are *not* going to start dropping. No one who *can* nuke us using missiles wants to be incinerated themselves.
      There's not even a worry about an Iranian Bomb. Why???
      Because enemies with Bombs eliminates direct conflict, instead of enhancing it. Proof:
      (1) US & Russia: we've fought *proxy* wars, but no direct conflict.
      (2) India & Pakistan: they *hate* each other, and fought a number of wars, until each developed The Bomb and missiles. *Everyone* predicted nuclear annihilation in SE Asia, but... nothing.
      Well, you say, these Muslims are crazy, and want Mohammed to return or some shit!!
      Some do, just like some Jews and Christians are trying to foment war.
      But... while Iran says it wants to nuke Israel, they (meaning Israel) would instantly nuke Iran. And since Iranian leaders really don't want to die (who wants to give up power), they won't attack, so Israel won't attack. Just like the US/Russia and India/Pakistan.

      best place to raid for supplies is a walmart. think about it ammo, entertainment, toiletries, food clothes indoor plumbing, hahaha... homedefense is the ticket i agree alternate energy supplies is all, wind, solar, garden, you be good for at least 2 yrs. these overpriced vehicles once you get to your place what u gonna do. they cant afford or even find gas you wont be driving around everyday. 35000.00 down the drain these mre meal guys thats like what 6 months before u go hungry.

    This is a prep that I've done extensive work on myself. I bought a 1967 M715 Kaiser Jeep and refurbished it with a complete overhaul to make it a dam tank man. With a slight modification to the carb/fuel injector, I set it up to run on 90% biofuel/ethanol...still need a slight amount of diesel to get it going, but I've got a LARGE store of diesel for that. I put a snorkel on the exhaust, there's bare minimum electronics(encased in a faraday cage for possible EMP), solid rubber tires(rougher ride, but dam-near unstoppable), and it's about as secure from most forms of attacks and since it can run on ethanol(which can be manufactured from almost anything green, ie tree leaves, grass clippings, etc.), I will have fuel and mobility in the event of a complete shutdown of our grid/country. When no one else can get gas or diesel and we are post-apocalyptic, my family will still be mobile almost indefinitely. I put a few years into first and foremost, researching all of this, as I am no mechanic. But the more I learn, the more I realize that I went with the best option. What's your opinion on this? I like the jeep you've got there, but you really should think about going with ethanol/biodiesel for fuel in the case of unavailability of 'normal' fuel. Those old military diesel jeeps can dam near run on grain alcohol, and for a SHTF scenario, this is the ONLY way to go it seems, at least for reliability. Thoughts?

  • @triples4good
    @triples4good 3 года назад +1

    Great setup. One thing you might consider is a syphon pump for getting fuel if you need some. Also in case of an EMP some kind of faraday cage for your electronics. Right now my rigs are a Subaru for urban grayman escape or my M38A1 Jeep. The Jeep is definitely super low tech but will go anywhere on almost any type of fuel. It's VERY slow though.

    Some things I would add, being an experienced jeep owner wheels his jeep regularly. First, a snatch block. It will double the pulling strength of your winch. Second...a recovery strap. Useful if you're with another person and need to be pulled out from the rear of the vehicle. Third would be an axe. Useful for everything. Fourth would be a quality hi-lift jack. They are dangerous even when used properly, but are an irreplaceable tool. Offroad lights would also help at night. An air compressor would also be useful for repairing flat tires. And also, it doesn't take much money or effort to put together a jeep specific tool kit that can take care of most repairs. It can almost all fit in a small toolbag. Spare fluids and gas is always useful as well as spare parts like serpentine belts or u-joints or tie rod ends. They are inexpensive and fairly easy to repair on the trail but if broken can easily disable a vehicle. Just my advice from wheeling my rig a lot.

    While I don't have a Jeep, I do have a 2500 Dodge Ram 4 door crew cab. I just spent the whole day driving on unplowed roads in about 6 to 8 inches of snow and slush here in upstate NY. When the shtf I'm going to go out on a limb and say no one will be plowing the roads in the winter. I think it's good practice to take your vehicle out now and see what it can & can't do. I bet most will find the tires on their vehicle are crap unless you have some real aggressive tread. Just a thought.

    It was this video that inspired me to build mine for survival. But I've surpassed yours at this point. I didn't build it for a bugout situation, but more raw survival. My daily driver carries enough gear to survive for a month without trapping/hunting, but I carry a fishing rod, snares, and a bow with me everywhere I go. Why a bow and not a gun? Infinite ammo. I have a few bowmag arrows for defense (the ones that carry a 12g shotgun shell to the target). But I carry 2 dozen different knives, 2 axes, 2 small hatchets, 5 flashlights plus enough batteries to fill each flashlight at least twice, one rechargable flashlight, all the pots and pans I need for cooking, spices, all that, a few mres, cans of beans, cases of water, a dozen of those lifestraws that filter water as you drink it, 2 foldable canteens, 1000 matches in waterproof container, 2 bottles of lighter fluid + zippo, a dozen bics, a Swedish firesteel, fire extinguisher, bag of tobacco plus rollies, solo gps alert system, 1500 watt champion generator, 250 watt solar panel, massive first aid kit, a dozen large orange garbage bags (great for lots of uses), 2 spare changes of clothes, extra boots, and plenty more goodies (because this is getting long), but the most important thing in my kit? 2 40's of Jack Daniels. I'm running a 2011 jk 2 door with 4" lift and 35s. Dana 44s, ripp supercharger, aev snorkel kit, warn 10k lb. Zeon winch, smittybilt 8k lb. Winch mounted to a hitchplate that I can remove, smittybilt rooftop tent, and lightbars on each side fed by an upgraded alternator, and 5 25L jerry cans. Overkill? Yeah probably, but when I go camping I'm usually totally alone, at minimum 100km from the nearest town. In that situation, overkill is ALWAYS the answer.

    Definitely not dissing this guy at all, and I do love the videos and information.
    Understand this is simply MY opinion.
    First, my own bug out vehicle dream should have a totally non-electronic engine ignition system.
    Points and coil will survive an EMP.
    The rest of this is damn good information.
    BTW, if I could find a small diesel engine with no electronic to slip into the engine compartment, I'd be on it like white on rice.

    Extra fuel? Lockable storage? Other wise nice set up. Check out Truckvault for storage you might just find something to secure your guns and get better organized. and AEV for their fuel caddy. You can do other things for extra fuel for your jeep but I like the fuel caddy design the best. But if your bug out and you don't have extra fuel your pretty much screwed.

    Nice Jeep, I'm more partial to full size SUVs like Ford Bronco. I like that you have your bug out bags ready to go. I also hope you pack a mobile tool set for any mishaps on the road. It is also good to carry hose tube splits for hoses that fail. Extra drive belts and water. I have a tool set, a camp bag, medical bag and a range bag. The mobility packs require two people to move with expediency. One person can carry but at a slower pace. it takes thought and practice to lay the items out in a way to lends itself to better mobility but it can be done.

    Oh boy. Damn Marine needs a gear head brother to set that Jeep up proper. We ever cross paths, I'll square you away. Lol. Good shit for a solid start point. Those open differentials need to go selectable asap.

    I'd say the ultimate bug out jeep would be a Land Rover, they hardly ever brake, and if they do they are easy to fix out in the field with duct tape, steel wire, and a limited set of tools as they don't have any electronic or hydraulic crap. They also got more storage/living space and are generally designed for rough country.
    Bit boring and uncomfortable to drive, but they get the job done every time without fail.

    Put some Kevlar panels inside the door panels to help shield you against gun fire it will increases your chances to bug out.

    I love the way you have that Jeep set up and the equipment you have in there. The backpacks are nice and I have a shotgun like the one you have there and thought about getting one while working for the Arkansas Dept. of Corrections. I have a Mini-14 rifle also with the 30 round clip for it. Most of the other items I have except for enough rope and two more compasses for my other two vehicles. I have two backpacks which I got from the local Army exchange and is real nice. I have my old Vietnam style helmet with liner which was issued to me when I was in service, along with the military belt and canteen with the spout for the masks with water spout adapter.

    I'd look at getting a land anchor to keep in your jeep so if you get stuck and can't reach a tree you have a winch point you can put anywhere

    • @Warhorse469
      @Warhorse469 8 лет назад

      +Josh Farist or you could dig are deep hole and winch your self out with ya spare wheel, i have done it are few times and works great, but when i say deep it needs to be deep or you run the risk of the wheel flying back in ya face.

      BlackScout made a good point about making you a target. We survivalists can obtain water easy. You could also have one of them nice Katadyn water purifiers. But ain't nothing wrong with having a gallon of water though.
