thank you !
Lovely touch. Wonder if he could economically make subtitles for other languages to get a bigger audience
@@charliebramleyIn addition to auto subtitles, RUclips does have the option to auto-translate as well now
Would like more train and map footage and less talking-head footage please.
@@charliebramley Or even dubbing in other languages for his popular videos as there is the ability to change the audio track being played
I’ve been in the transit community for a while, and I can confidently say you’re one of the highest quality transit channels on RUclips. Here’s to another 8 years
Have you taken the Amtrak Empire Builder route before? Its Sandpoint station is currently the only passenger rail station in Idaho.
@@crowmob-yo6ry I haven’t, but it’s on my bucket list
Definitely
@RMTransit has consistent quality for transit content @@J-Bahn
I agree mate
I am a busy working mother. Your channel is the only one I have time to watch. Transportation is important to me. It is helping my kid with her mental health. I hate most RUclips content these days, its clogged up with so much junk. This channel is an absolute gem, and I am thrilled for any and all formats (or what have you's 😺). Happy New Year everybody!!!!
RMTransit and Oh the Urbanity are the best transit RUclipsrs. I also love City Beautiful and Alan Fisher videos, but they get a lot of nasty attack comments from trolls, so I avoid engaging in any comments on their videos. NotJustBikes sucks and his fanbase is even worse.
@@crowmob-yo6ryAgree, nowadays NJB just comes off as a snob.
@@creaturexxii yeah. both car-addicted suburnanite NIMBYs and the "North America is doomed, just give up and move to Europe!" crowd are equally damaging to our causes, at least that's what I believe.
I mean, he’s no Rich Evans.
@crowmob-yo6ry about here is good doesn't upload that often though
Looking forward to filming more videos together next year, Reece!
Yeah we need more collabs!
yes
Downy woodpecker
Let's do it!! Theres a particular city I would love to cover on the ground ;)!
Yay! Yes collabs please
Thanks for 8 years, Reece. Your videos are the ones that got me, and probably thousands of other people into the transit community, and that's definitely something to be proud of :)
Quality over quantity. Stay determined, stay safe ❤
Once a week, with a 'what happened last week' intro. When you choose to miss a week a few times a year, have a good time relaxing (vacation without a camera!). You are one of the best RUclips transit authorities. Your work has ignited interest in track routing, station design, railroad cars and engines, and future strategies in many of your peers. You have done this while paying $3000ish rent in a very expensive city.
As a Canadian, it’s been a pleasure watching your channel evolve and I am so proud of your contribution to transit. I teach international students and quite often I show your transit explainer videos which makes my students beam with pride when they see their cities’ systems being featured. Happy New Year Reece and looking forward to what you have in store for 2024!
I am so thrilled that you'll be focusing on yourself more. I've loved watching your videos over the years, they have cemented my belief in the future of the planning field. I am starting full-time at USDOT shortly as a planner, and really consider you a major reason why I pursued this job. Cheers to more in the future!🎉
That is so exciting :D Congratulations and do the good work!
This is good to hear, Reece. Nothing - and I emphasise "Nothing" - is more important than our mental health. It's all too easy to create obligations for ourselves which become self-perpetuating and, consequently, onerous. Enjoy what you do on RUclips, but also enjoy what you do away from RUclips. You only get one life, so make the most of it in as many ways as possible. We, your viewers are not, in the greater scheme of things, as important to you as you are to yourself. Have a great "Reece Martin"-style 2024. 😎👍
Thanks so much!
I think it’s absolutely healthy to go down to 1 video a week, don’t kill yourself for RUclips, although I know rent in Toronto is awful. Love all your vids and hope everything is smooth in 2024
It’s lazy and disappointing.
You are an amazing urbanism icon, Reece! We appreciate all of the videos and commentary you make. You add excellent discourse and debate to the urbanism community. You are changing the world!
Thanks! Happy New year!🚆
Thank you!
@@RMTransit You're welcome.
crazy to think your channel grew over 10x since i first found you, thanks for the years. hope you have a good new years and a great 2024.
Honestly Reece, your videos are always so well researched, edited and presented, and its a pleasure to have collaborated with you on quite a few of them now! Your enthusiasm really shines through my friend... Quality definitely over quantity for 2024! 🙂
Personally, I really missed the older videos that were deleted off of your channel. Still, this has been one of my favorite RUclips channels for a long time now. A train enthusiast to my core, your videos allowed me to see for the first time how my knowledge of trains and transport could be applied to make the world better. Been watching for almost 3 years now. Thanks Reece.
I'd just like to say that your channel is one of my absolute favourites. I only recently got into urban planning and public transport, and the way that you explain the benefits/costs of each mode of transport such as different types of trains, tram-trains, trams, etc, has really encouraged me to pay attention to what my government and local council in the UK are doing.
You've helped turn me into an advocate and ignited a passion that I never knew existed. My family now joke that I'm obsessed with these topics, and it's largely thanks to your work. You have a larger impact than you perhaps realise and I'd just like to thank you for it. So really, thank you, and I wish you all of the best moving forward.
Thanks for this
I think this is a good move. As a subscriber who loves your videos I do find it difficult to keep up with the pace of videos you release which means I often skip watching videos about countries or cities I'm less familiar with. If your videos were less frequent I'd be more likely to watch every single one.
Good luck with everything Reece, your channel is brilliant and I hope it continues to do really well
Reece. As a train driver and transit enthousiast I really appriciate your work and its always an instant click when I see a new video of you. I have learned allot about transit from arround the world just becsuse of your time and effort
You need to do what you think is right for you! We appreciate your videos, they are informative, tell us about things going on in the world of transit/urbanism, and help us know what we need to do. Thank you for that and I look forward to your approximately 52 videos next year!
Have been watching and subscribed for a couple of years now. One good quality video per week sounds perfect to me. Best of luck with it all in 2024.
Thank you very much for that amount and quality of information about transportation. Keep your style, even with 52 videos a year. Such a frequency of one video a week is good enough.
moin, from Germany, I like your videos so much!!! so
In Germany we say: Frohes Neues
Reece, I'm glad you're slowing down a little to maintain your mental health and keep up quality. Your health is paramount.
I am so grateful that you & your videos exist. You are doing the world a great service. As a Torontonian Canadian who lived in Japan for 8 years, I especially appreciate your advocacy & hope for how we could do better here. I hope doing 1 video/week allows you the work-life balance you deserve. And I'll keep my fingers crossed (and maybe send a letter or 5) that CBC calls you soon. All the best in 2024!
I'm jealous, Japan is awesome
Hi Reece, thanks for all your efforts in 2023! Sorry for this being a long comment (is there a limit?). Your biggest contribution to the transit world from my perspective is to bring an international view to Canadian (and especially Toronto) transit. This has been sorely needed for decades. Thanks for this! I enjoy especially your explainer videos - I re-watched your Italy high-speed rail video before going to Italy this summer, and I will re-watch your Korea video before I travel there in the spring. I will resolve to pay more attention to your Patreon channel. Just so you know, my Saturday morning routine is to go out around 9 a.m. to buy croissants, come home to make coffee, and watch your video over breakfast. So if you are trying to pick a day for your once-a-week video.... Regardless, as a vote of confidence I will raise my Patreon contribution. Thanks so much and Happy New Year!
Hey Andrew, while I won't be making as much this year hopefully you can watch the backlog! Thanks for your support!
I haven’t done RUclips as a job, but I’m a trained urban planner who has also done other forms of online work reliant on standing out in the arms race to complete for the precariousness of unpredictable income. You can never not be working, and it is SO easy to burnout in the face of fickle user demand. May the changes you bring 2024 be all that you need to thrive and find balance. 🌟
I heard your interview on CBC. Congratulations on being recognized as an urban transit expert.
Congratulations, Reece, for recognising your need for self care. Your work has been voluminous over the years! What a great idea to refocus the scope of your work while increasing the professionalism you will gain through this exercise. And for the naysayers out there upset with your change, remind them that "you can't land on two feet unless you're willing to jump!" Cheers, Reece! All the best in the future for RMTransit. Now where's that blog link...
As a railway engineer in Australia (Engineer in the infrastructure sense not the North American Train driver sense) I've always found your videos quite good, informative and pretty close to the mark. Keep up the great work mate! The detractors will always be there, but they will only have as much power as you give them. I love the debate your channel generates. Great idea to take a step back to 1 video a week. Work has to be sustainable. Even if it is your passion (like my work is) you need to be able to switch off your work brain for a decent break and to also get those Eureka moments that come to you out of nowhere. Thanks for your content and you time.
Happy 2024.
I know you said you don't lack for ideas, but I wonder if you could do an analysis (video or blog) of public transit in the Ruhr region and the issues it has. From my perspective, transit there is much worse than it could be. It's a polycentric metropolitan area that cries for good transit, but practically every one of the half dozen major cities that make up the region plans for just itself.
I will cover the Ruhr region at some point - thats in the 180 :)
@@RMTransit Great!
I've been watching your channel for a couple of months and it's permanently altered my RUclips feed. Keep up the great work ❤ (and perhaps more videos about Poland in the future pls)
Riding bicycles is great!
Yes, my friend! Slow your roll! Pace yourself. Enjoy a healthy work/life balance. You've done an amazing job so far, and your audience will continue to follow you. Keep up the good work ❤
No Reece! Min 200 videos a year, in fact, a video a day!
Jokes aside, truly appreciate your videos.
iv'e allways been interested in transit and your channel among other transit youtubers really made me feel less alone in that
also, mental health should allways come first
You just do you. Be happy. We'll follow you and support you. Just as I told Tom Scott
Great Video, keep up the good work. Finding that work-relax balance is critical!
Your transit video quality has been amazing, there's obviously a serious dedication from your side !
Reese, I'm all for fewer videos; thank you! I subscribe to so many RUclips channels and podcasts for that matter that even with a Clockwork Orange setup, I'd never be able to take it all in.
Here's to fewer notifications in 2024!
Hey Reece, I just want to say thank you. I’ve always loved trains and urbanism but you brought my love to a whole new level. I’m hoping to someday get a masters in urban planning, thanks to you. You make a difference for so many people so thank you and happy new years!
Good to hear you putting your mental health first, More than 2 video a week this year has been nice but isn't healthy long term. Can I ask if Subtitles are going to be constant going forward, I personally love subtitles and was genuinely excited when I saw the Grand Paris Express video had them. They are something that not many will notice but those who do really appreciate them.
Every video will have them form now on!
Good to see you and others taking the big step to creating healthy working habits.
You're my favorite transit RUclipsr and you're so much fun to watch all the time!!
I really enjoy your videos and a bonus is that you include Canadian content! As a Montrealer I loved that you had a Montreal metro map behind you. Best wishes for however you decide to continue in the future.
I'm an architect by profession but also a transport enthusiast. The two things aren't entirely separate... I've always believed that the way we build the urban environment has to include thinking about transport.
Anyway - I was saying to a friend the other day that I often see better discussion of urban design on transport focussed youtube channels than I see within the architecture world. Your channel is absolutely one of those. I think it should be watched by students of architecture, urban design and planning.
So, thank you for your work.
And particularly, thank you for fighting the case for what you call mass transit and what we call public transport here in the UK.
I've been going on about public transport and reducing car dependance my whole life. It's always felt like a niche and unfashionable drum to bang. It's truly great to see it being brought so much more into mainstream discussion and opinion, by people like you, younger than I am.
Keep up the good work!
I'm really thankful for you producing great content and increasing my interest in public transit. As someone who lives in Scarborough, it's nice to see someone advocate and analyze the local transit around here, and for the rest of the GTA. Keep grinding dude!
Thank you for adding closed captions!
Better videos as I said!
Thank you so much Reece over the past few years I have watched your videos non stop. I have noticed that your style of thinking about transit and planning is very similar to me. I love the international love that you give the world and hope to see the more in depth videos in 2024.
If you need footage thoughts or hints on Sydney's transport future, I am happy to help!
Always appreciate your efforts, Reece, and it's smart to try new approaches as you continue to balance the channel with life. The sheer scale of everything you cover is beyond impressive... Happy New Year and all the best for a sanely successful 2024!
Thanks so much Steve! I hope you have a great one too!
You've come a long way. Here's to your continual growth. You deserve it.
And 1 a week is good. Makes it more sustainable long term for you.
I will be watchng with interest how the new format unfolds! The quality of your work has improved steadily over the years and, in my opinion, is top of the line! You are one of the few that do not resort to clickbait titles and thumbnails that I have across on RUclips.
Keep up the journey, but do watch your mental health, especially as the "knockers" tend to deride anything!
Tom, from Sydney, Australia
Reece getting a better work life balance is essential for both good physical and mental health, also trying to reduce workload in 2024 so I might actually post some photos and get round to creating video content. Have a great 2024
A lot of people and things around me seem to be going after a simplifying down phase heading into 2024, and I’m all for that.
Happy New Year. Just passed 2024 in Manila. Hope for more transit videos.
A weekly schedule is a great direction to go. And it’s still aggressive especially with the quality you consistently have.
Looking forward to 2024!
Thanks!
I’m a huge fan of your content. ☺️ Be good to yourself 1st. Weekly rollouts of your content is reasonable and I look forward to watching. HNY! 🎉
Though I haven’t been able to catch up with all videos you’ve posted and live discussions you’ve hosted, I can say that I appreciate the content you present on RUclips and other social media platforms. It’s informative and helpful. Your thoughts on public transit are also informative and constructive.
Here’s to many more transit videos in 2024! 🎉🎆🎊🥳
I am in my 70's, recently discovered You Tube videos on transit subjects. I have been interested in this subject for over 60 years, but was unaware others were into this subject. In one way I feel better that there others were following tram, busses and systems. Not being unique in this subject made me a part of the community although an observer have made my latter years more enjoyable. Thank-you.
I really enjoy your videos - it is very interesting for me to watch your videos. I like learning new things about transit, and your videos are so cool. Please take good care of your work life balance though, it is so important to prioritize your wellbeing. Happy new year!
I always wondered how you churned out so many videos every week while keeping the quality so high… glad you’re taking a step back and focusing on yourself. Keep the great content coming - we all appreciate the work that you do.
Big fan of yours, I remember seeing some of your Skytrain videos around the time I made a few "History of Vancouver's Skytrain" and "Future of Vancouver's Skytrain" videos back in 2017. Your channel sure has grown (blown up, even) since then, and you oughta be very, very proud!
No matter what you do I always look forward to seeing your videos.
my favourite video of yours was the Top 10 transit systems internationally. I was surprised to see what a large portion of them I had used myself and that I agreed pretty much exactly with your rankings.
Dear Reece.
You are absolutely right.
Quality is much more important than quantity.
Your videos are very good and informative and the only thing i can say to it is "Do your thing".
By the way, i would like to know what you are thinking about Very Light Rail (VLR).
Rail or Gadgetbahn?
Maybe a topic for one of the next videos.
And last not least - Happy New Year!
reece your knowledge and dedication to youtube is amazing, your channel is a gold mine of high quality content
love from melbourne :DDDD
I'm from Mexico and I only stumbled on your channel because the algorithm thought I would find the video you made about Mexico City interesting. And that was what kickstarted my interest into urbanism and transportation. I'm glad it happened.
Watching this in 2024 (it's just gone New Year's Day in Malaysia), so happy New Year to everyone
Happy new year!
I have been following your channel for a few years now, and the quality has only gotten better with time. Urbanist YT has inspired me to go outside my comfort zone and plan travel to places I haven't considered before. Wishing you all the success in the world moving forward.
I rarely ever comment on videos, but I just want to say you are one of my favourite channels on RUclips. I’ve been following you since around 2019 and I love every single one of your videos. Thank you for making important videos like these and opening a whole new world of what’s possible to me!
Thanks for the support!
Happy new year RMT! One video a week is already a lot of videos. I get that monetization encourages it, but I wish more youtubers would make less and shorter videos (for the sake of my to-watch list).
Happy 2024! Change is scary, but trying new things is good too. I hope the changes you're making help with your success and let you achieve a better work/life balance so you can deal with whatever new challenges come along in 2024.
Your gonna have done your 8th year on youtube and look how far you have come. I may be a new viewer but i like all of the content about transit because i just like transit kinda now.
Good luck on the next year on your channel!
Happy New Year, Reece. 52 videos are plently. As I mentioned your videos are innformative. Steve in Gatineau, Québec.
Congratulations Reece on reaching this milestone! Good to see your videos gradually develop over time and become more polished. I think what you are proposing is a good idea, to create fewer, higher quality videos.
As a Toronto based RUclipsr myself I agree that it can be tiring to put out many videos especially with our climate. I dropped my video frequency last year and it sure freed up some time. Good work Reece, I appreciate all the transit videos.
You do amazing work here! Keep it up! You should be very proud of how far you’ve come! I always look forward to your videos!
I remember a few months ago you made a video about the metro in Santiago. It was super complete and detailed, and as a chilean I could tell you did your research. And then a few days later, you posted yet another lengthy video full of details and quality. I was like "damn, when does this guy sleep!?" lol.
Good to know that you'll be adapting to a format and schedule that your circadian rhythm will appreciate. You earned that, pal.
Reece, getting videos down to once a week is really fine. Balance your life out a little bit more is quite normal and is (usually) good! What ever you post, I’ll watch, unless you start posting some questionable things. Have a good year, and to anyone else who managed to find this comment, happy new year to everyone!
What makes you enjoyable to watch for us is of course your knowledge and excellent videos but most importantly it's how authentic and genuine you are. You're very relatable and down to earth. Keep up the great work sir. All the very best in 2024.
Good goals. Love your content. Watch all your stuff. Thank you!
Very cool to see how far you have come, been watching since you have like 5,000 subs and your channel has really inspired me to study urban planning in the future
Fooey on negative comments. They’re just jealous because they couldn’t possibly do what you do. Don’t let the bastards get you down! You’re awesome.
I will support you and your work regardless of how many videos you make. This is legit one of my favorite channels.
Thank you for all of the hard work and dedication to your channel! You have been making great videos since day 1 and hope it will continue into the new year and beyond and another thing is I would love to see a video about the Tyne and Wear metro system in Newcastle. All the best wishes for a good year!
Congrats on the milestone, and best of luck for the future and the new direction! The new style seems sleek!
Dude, you changed the way i think about my country's urbanism, architecture and of course it's transit. To the point were you helped me realize that if i want my country to advance into the future, it's transit must come up to speed, thank you Reece and have a happy new year!!!!....by the way, i'm from México
Captions!! Let's go!!
It's great to have videos available on this topic - made with such an exceptional standard. I look forward to seeing your videos throughout 2024!
Happy New Year! Love your proposed changes. Looking forward to an amazing 2024.
I always enjoy watching your videos and learning about transit systems all over the world. Thank you for featuring my home city of Perth, Australia. It's a very exciting time for our public transport, so hope you will feature Perth again when the next stage has been completed. Keep up the good work
Thank you for the work you do! I have learned an incredible amount on transit and urbanism from this channel and from you -- and I greatly appreciate it! I love that you're setting a more personally-sustainable path for the future, thank you for modeling that!! ...sending big appreciation from Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.A.
I deeply appreciate your channel and work, Reece. Thank you for every post, here, and on other social media platforms. I’m happy to hear that you are going to make your mental health a priority in 2024. I will continue to support you and your vision of educating us on transit and urban development.
Thanks for sharing this Reese! I think I speak for the entire transportation nerd community here when I share how proud and grateful we are for your work! Changing things a bit to focus on your sanity and mental health sounds like an excellent decision. And I wholeheartedly support it. Happy new year!
Good on you for taking care of yourself. Wishing you the best for the new year.
Well done Reece! You have close to 300k subs for a very good reason, you have made a real difference to the way transit is perceived by so many.
You should be very proud of the past 8 years of your channel!
So do what works best for you, you’ll always have our support and admiration!
Thanks for all your hard work. We’ve watched you grow as your channel grows. Onwards and upwards 👏
Love the content and the quality of your videos! Keep up the good work, 1x a week is more than enough and happy to be supporting you on Patreon as well!
Thanks for the support, it lets me do what I do!
Your channel is the best! I have been enjoying it for years, thank you for all the effort you put into it. You are "living my dream" of traveling to different cities and countries and exploring various transit systems of all different types (bus, tram, light rail, metro, commuter rail, regional rail, high speed rail, etc.). However you decide to change things, I fully support and respect your choices, and I hope it works out well for you! We'll all be watching and learning - thanks so much for your informative, entertaining and professionally-done videos!
Reece, good for you for prioritizing you! Your content is first in class when it comes to both substance and delivery.
